Do you wear foundation everyday to work?

I recently started a grad scheme. This morning I realised I had run out of foundation. My reaction to the prospect of going into the office without it really surprised me.

Everyone my age wears make up.

If I had amazing clear skin I wouldn't wear foundation.

I'm trying to improve my skin so hopefully it will make a difference

Newmumatlast · 18/01/2020 05:41

Now (in 30s) I am into make up compared to how I used to be and have a lot however I would say I rarely wear it. If I have a few spots i will wear concealer or if i have something important for work or socially i will wear a full face but otherwise i don't bother. I do go through phases though of experimenting and wearing it every day then i just wont again! Sometimes i look better without imo and sometimes better with. Depends. When I was younger so from when friends first started as teens until my late 20s I basically never wore it unless going out. I used to love the fact that I could make myself look so different noticeably compared to people who wore it all the time then looked no different for a special event. But I had great skin and naturally dark eyelashes and brows and no wrinkles. 30s are different lol.

I'm in sales and presentation is very important. The guys wear a lot of twill shirts, suits, montblonc everything and I don't know any who doesn't wear a Rolex. As I'm the only female in the team, and I prefer not to spend too much .. I instead spend on my face and good hair. So yes foundation is a must.

Poetryinaction · 18/01/2020 07:20

Tinted moisturiser, under eye concealer and mascara. The aim is to look less tired. 37.

Becclescake · 18/01/2020 07:36

I'm 38 and wear foundation every day, along with eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, bronzer and blush. I work in an office and it's my 'work' face 😁. At home on the weekend I tend not to wear any, and if I'm not off out anywhere or just popping to the in laws I don't wear any at all.

EnormousDormouse · 18/01/2020 07:43

No make-up for me (primary school teacher, late 40s). I didn't see why I should waste the time, energy and money
I do scrub up well if I am going out (mineral concealer/foundation, eyeliner, lip gloss) but it's special occasions only.

tacosplease · 18/01/2020 07:46

Yes because I have really blotchy skin Sad It’s a PITA but I’d feel so self conscious if I didn’t!

Sunsetandmoonlight · 18/01/2020 07:52

I always wear eyeshadow and mascara as I have no eyes otherwise but wouldn’t bother with foundation day to day. I only wear it if I’m going to a wedding or special event.

I’m surprised so many women do wear foundation according to this thread! In real life I don’t think any of my friends do and at work (teacher) I can only think of one person who definitely does.

Sunsetandmoonlight · 18/01/2020 07:53

I also like the fact that when I wear full make up on a night out I look completely different.

Dizzywizz · 18/01/2020 07:54

Yes, full face to work everyday. I’m 37. My skin tone is very uneven without it. It is natural make up and I would never consider going into work without it! Really surprised how many say they don’t wear any

Igottastartthinkingbee · 18/01/2020 08:01

Barely wore makeup in my 20s or 30s unless going on a night out. Now in my early 40s I wear foundation for work (customer facing role under some bright lights!) but don’t bother out of work. I recently changed foundation brand (just for a change) and hadn’t realised how different they are Blush my new one actually covers blemishes! So I think my old one (no.7) was more of a tinted moisturiser than foundation.

TheFastandTheCurious · 18/01/2020 08:03

Used to, can't be arsed now I'm late 40's. But when did it become a lip "a red lip, a nude lip", what colour's the other one?

Oysterbabe · 18/01/2020 08:06

I never wear it, I don't like the way it looks. I have good skin and just dust with a bit of powder to remove any shine if I'm doing make up.

Mummadeeze · 18/01/2020 08:09

Wow, this thread has surprised me! I thought everyone wore foundation every day! I have worn it everyday since my late teens and I am 45 now. I wouldn’t really consider going out without it unless it was to exercise on the weekend, but I would bring it with me and apply it after my shower in the gym. I do think everyone looks better with it on no matter how good your skin is but maybe it is just what I am used to.

dudsville · 18/01/2020 08:10

I do. I have rosacea and acne scarring and I turn scarlet at the slightest sneeze or minor exertion and my nose is always red. I use a heavy coverage foundation. I don't put it on properly, if I did it would hide everything, which I like, but it also blanks out my face, which I don't like. So I put a layer on and or makes me feel more confident. I would never run out, but if I did I'm fairly certain I would have to arrive late to whatever commitment I had that morning until thre stores opened and I could restock!

7dayslater · 18/01/2020 08:11

I have 2 jobs. I usually wear it when I work in a restaurant in the evening, my other job is in a sweetshop and I don't normally wear it. It's no big deal either way for me.

I'm 19.

madcatladyforever · 18/01/2020 08:12

I'm 57 and always wear makeup. I havr good skin and don't need a foundation mask so I just put a few spots on areas that need it.

londonrach · 18/01/2020 08:20

Never wore it my life. It kinda obvious when people do wear it and it sticks onto people skin and looks clumpy so dont understand why anyone wears it. Ive yet to see anyone who wears it well.

londonrach · 18/01/2020 08:21

About with reason @dudsville has. Had a friend who wore it for same reason dudsville did andgave her confidence

londonrach · 18/01/2020 08:23

Apart not about

cochineal7 · 18/01/2020 08:25

Never wear it either. Feels like a mask to me. Bit of blusher and mascara enough for me. I also find lots of makeup makes people generally look older.

Ronnie27 · 18/01/2020 08:29

Yes every day but I have bad skin which changes things a bit. Sad

BadEyeBri · 18/01/2020 08:53

No make up at all. The dogs and cats don't seem to mind Grin

phoenixrosehere · 18/01/2020 09:08

Nope. I wear lip stain with some lip balm over it and may add some mascara or eyeliner if I feel the need.

I struggle with finding one that doesn’t go grey on my skin or breaks me out after 3+ hours. My skin has a few small acne scars closer to my hairline but otherwise good skin. Despite this people assume I’m in my early 20s and surprised I’m married with small children. I’m more concentrated on skincare, wanting my skin to look great regardless of what I choose to put on it.

Unless, I’m going to an event where I know I will be likely photographed or videoed I don’t tend to wear it. If I do feel I need a bit of coverage I use a touch of concealer and blend it in the places I need.

Kinkybutkind · 18/01/2020 09:08

I don’t wear foundation in or out of work, I haven’t ever used it. On a very rare occasion I wear make up it is mascara, with a white liner and that’s only if I can find it. I’m in my 40s
