Do you wear foundation everyday to work?

I recently started a grad scheme. This morning I realised I had run out of foundation. My reaction to the prospect of going into the office without it really surprised me.

Everyone my age wears make up.

I do but it's part of my thing of getting ready to face the day. It just makes me feel "done" , wouldn't be a huge issue if I couldn't and God knows I've dashed to many a work emergency in the middle of the night with none on.

However it probably would make me feel a little off...like I hadn't got ready properly, I suppose like I'd had to go in in my slippers. However I am a lit older at 40 and my perspective now is I can pretty much style anything out, but yeah it would make me feel like I wasn't quite ready for the day

"I honestly think 90% of women in my office wear make up. 100% of people my age."

I think we often influence each other.

PlomBear · 17/01/2020 11:56

My skin just looks really crap au natural despite acne medications and expensive skin care products.

Wanderer1 · 17/01/2020 11:57

I don't wear make up for work at all. In fact I only wear it if I am going out out (or not just to the pub or for a quick bite). I wear less and less as it annoys me more and more. 33

I work from home now but when I went out to work yes, I did wear full make up every day (my full make up is foundation, powder, eyebrow pencil, eye shadow, mascara, blusher and lippie - takes 5 minutes to do). I look really "plain" without any.

paddingtonbearsmarmalade · 17/01/2020 11:59

I wear make up to work pretty much every day (foundation, blusher and mascara so it takes all of 2 minutes to put it on). It looks completely natural which is my preference, but has the bonus effect of hiding how tired I am all the time! The women in my team wear make up but in my old department it was probably about 50/50. I prefer to wear it as it feels like putting on my professional face but if I run out of time or can’t be bothered then I don’t feel obliged to wear it. I almost never wear make up at weekends unless we’re doing something special!

Ashtower · 17/01/2020 11:59

How long does it take you to apply your make up?

If you wear it

I've never worn make up to work. I rarely wear make up out side of work either though. I'm 48.

  1. Used to wear tinted moisturiser, mascara and eyeliner every day.

Got out of the habit, now only bother with it for evenings out. Occasionally a bit of eyeliner.

I think I look much younger without make up. A sudocrem facemask does wonders for my skin. Still ploughing through my big pot which cost £7.

Yes wear foundation daily. My skin can be a bit blotchy without it. I did skip it some days last year, in later stages of pregnancy! Felt I had a good excuse! Grin Going back to work in March, and not really looking forward to doing it daily again! But usually don't feel fully dressed without it!

chesterfuckingdrorrs · 17/01/2020 12:02

I would really struggle to go to work without a full and I really do mean full face of makeup on. It's ridiculous. I know, but I look horrific without makeup. It's like my security blanket I suppose.

I had conjunctivitis and couldn't wear mascara for a while, very single person I saw commented on how different awful I looked

It really concerns me how I rely on it to feel put together.

I'm lucky to have good skin and I'm considered good looking. Really worried I'll be piling it on and relying on it as I get older.

I wear BB cream, mascara and blush. Sometimes nude lipstick or gloss but usually just balm. Occasionally full eye shadow, sometimes just a quick swipe with a shadow stick.

Always cleanse, serum and moisturise in mornings + nights.

AugustFalls · 17/01/2020 12:06

I’m 32

PetPeter · 17/01/2020 12:06

I never wear make up. Pointless waste of time and money. Nobody in my offIce wears any make up to work and I have no idea if they use it outside of work.
I must have saved thousands of pounds and hours of time!

FlaskMaster · 17/01/2020 12:07

Sometimes I don't even wear a bra to work tbh. (A vest/crop top under a jumper does the job and is more comfortable). No absolutely sod foundation every day, who has time for that? Maybe before kids I did, I can't remember tbh. I'm late 30s with too many kids and not enough fucks time.

Ashtower · 17/01/2020 12:07

I could never faff around with contour in the morning, I overthink blush placement as it is

Cuddling57 · 17/01/2020 12:08

No I'm in my 40's. Mascara and under eye conceal only.

Gogolego · 17/01/2020 12:08

I'm late 20s and I wear concealer foundation and eye shadow. Eye liner if I cba

WellTidy · 17/01/2020 12:10

Yes, I wear foundation daily. Takes me 5 minutes to put my make up on - primer, foundation, eyeshadow, mascara, blusher, lip liner and lipstick. Same for 20 years.

I’m 44.

Aneley · 17/01/2020 12:10

It takes me 15mins in total to do both - care routine (cleanse, serum, moisturizer) + make up (primer, light coverage foundation/bb cream, blush, mascara, lipstick). Another 5-10 mins to do my hair. 37 and had this routine since I started working.

inwood · 17/01/2020 12:11

I wear foundation in winter, B.B. cream in summer. I'd feel a bit naked without it tbh. However I can categorically say I don't notice who doesn't wear make up. I notice the young ones who wear tons but that's all.

FlaskMaster · 17/01/2020 12:12

Don't worry. IME, as you get older you'll get dry skin or little lines that foundation sinks in to and it just makes you look worse rather than better. At the same time you realise you're not there to be a canvass for others to admire, and that's not worth the time and effort, which can be much better spent doing something else (like enjoying an extra 5 minutes in bed!). So you give up with it. "Fuck this" has been my life's mantra since I turned 35 tbh.

PapayaCoconut · 17/01/2020 12:13

I realised when I turned 30 that I look ten years younger without foundation. But I'm a SAHM so I don't really need to look "done".
