Do you wear foundation everyday to work?

I recently started a grad scheme. This morning I realised I had run out of foundation. My reaction to the prospect of going into the office without it really surprised me.

Everyone my age wears make up.

I'm a lawyer too and in our office I can think of only one woman who does a full face of makeup. Most people prefer a natural look.

There is a middle ground between a full face of makeup and no make up. This middle ground is the 'natural look' which can involve full foundation which evens out the skin tone but is not obvious or trowelled on.

Just because some women may overdo their make up does not means others who look natural may not also be skillfully wearing make up, without which they would look far worse.

No I never do and never have, I'm in my 30s. Any face make up makes my skin breakout. I just wear eye liner and mascara (when I can be bothered)

pilates · 18/01/2020 18:22

Yes a very light natural look

I’m in my fifties. I’ve never worn foundation as I don’t like how it feels. If I wear makeup (which I usually do for work, always for going out, but rarely at other times) I use a little under eye concealer and some translucent powder. If I run out it’s not a big deal.

soberfabulous · 18/01/2020 18:38

I wear it every day work or no work. There's some amazingly light formulations that look like your skin, but better.

I think there's some misperceptions that foundation has to be thick and caked on: it does t.

I'm 42 & feel I look like death without a full face but have worn it since I was 14. I do struggle to leave the house without it now and will avoid where poss because I feel crap.
For work I use; face oil then moisturiser, primer, under-eye concealer, BB, powder, bronzer, blush, highlighter. Eyeshadow x3, eyeliner, brow pencil, brow mascara. Normal mascara, waterproof mascara. Lip liner, lippy, gloss.
All very sparingly though, just to enhance rather than mask. Takes 15-20 mins.

I made a conscious decision to stop wearing make up to work after I had DD as I didn't want her to see me putting it on every morning and also I'm a teacher and I wanted the students to see it wasn't essential for a woman to wear make up. It also means I can sleep for 5 mins longer every morning which is a bonus!

whydoihavetogothroughsomuch · 18/01/2020 23:30

I wear make up every day. I wear it because I struggle with low self esteem. it makes me feel more confident. ESP at work. I even wear it waking the dog. Juuust incase I bump into someone I know!! Blush

Kjled · 18/01/2020 23:33

I wear foundation for events nights out etc. Every day I wear tinted moisturiser or bareminerals complexion rescue

looselegs · 18/01/2020 23:34

Tinted moisturiser, not foundation. I wear all the other stuff though. I'm 51 and too scary without it!

midnightmisssuki · 18/01/2020 23:35

I do. ELDW too - mega coverage. Grin

angelikacpickles · 18/01/2020 23:38

Yes, but not everyone does in my office.

Splodgetastic · 18/01/2020 23:43

Are you looking for a husband at work? If not, why are you bothered about make-up or the boys also bothered?

bumblingalonghappily · 18/01/2020 23:45

Yes every day at work (teacher)- the thought of going without would be too much. Although now I'm in maternity leave I'm just starting to cope with wearing only mascara, concealer and blusher when out and about- and it's so freeing!

Splodgetastic · 18/01/2020 23:51

@bumblingalonghappily, I’m really shocked that you consider it freeing to wear less make-up, but you are still wearing concealer and blusher. I’m not sure that’s normal and, if it is, I feel really sorry for you. Is this meant to be what women should put up with?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 18/01/2020 23:52

Yes I do I’m 47

Foundation (it’s a light dewy foundation), black eyeliner (flick in eyelids and under bottom lashes), lipstick/gloss and blusher

If going out heavier foundation and eyeliner, eyeshadow sometimes some added false lashes, lipstick/gloss and a bit of bronzer or high lighter

Always have done takes about 5 minutes if that

I love heavy eye makeup

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 18/01/2020 23:53

Flick on eyelids not in ...

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 18/01/2020 23:54

And always mascara how could I forget that

loveandsparkles · 18/01/2020 23:55

Up until having kids I did, now I brush my hair and run out the door Confused

Splodgetastic · 18/01/2020 23:56

I don’t mean to be offensive, but I have always even terrible at putting make—up on, but surely people (let’s face it, men) really know this, so what’s the point? Why bother?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 18/01/2020 23:57

Because I like wearing make up

I like to enhance my looks which make does

Yes I am vain

Chienloup · 19/01/2020 00:00

Yes every day to work, and I'd say most weekends. (Probably don't wear it 2 weekend days per month).
Primer, foundation, eyeliner, mascara, brow gel, blusher, and a tinted lip moisturiser on weekdays.
Foundation, mascara, blusher, and tinted lip moisturiser at weekends.
I'm 41.

Splodgetastic · 19/01/2020 00:02

@EnthusiasmIsDisturbed, make-up doesn’t enhance my looks. I just look like a menopausal clown who is trying too hard to fill in the cracks in her forehead and scares the men at work who are in the space of being married and having children but are not actually edgy (young) enough for me to really fancy.

cherish123 · 19/01/2020 00:04

42 - never worn foundation but wondering if I should.

cuckooplusone · 19/01/2020 00:05

I don’t think I have ever owned foundation, when I have had it put on (eg wedding) I didn’t like the feel of it, so it’s not for me. I sometimes wear lipstick for work and have worn eye shadow, mascara and a bit of concealer when I was filmed once for a training video.

I am sorry to say that whilst I should think “each to their own”, I default to thinking someone is stupid if they have a lot of make up on. I am getting better at overcoming my bias.
