Do you wear foundation everyday to work?

I recently started a grad scheme. This morning I realised I had run out of foundation. My reaction to the prospect of going into the office without it really surprised me.

Everyone my age wears make up.

Yep, I never used to wear more than foundation, blusher & lipstick
Now I'm 63 it's just the lipstick

I also no longer tint my hair
It's grey, in decent condition and cut short

I'm v low maintenance, which imo saves quite a bit of time for more interesting activities
5 seconds to brush hair and apply lipstick and that's me out of the house

VulcanRay · 17/01/2020 12:18

I wear it most of the time but I'm not religious about it. I sometimes force myself to deliver training to a room of 30 strangers with no make up at all, just to remind myself that whether or not I wear make up is of no consequence at all and has no bearing on my competence, people's reactions to me etc.

Interestingly millions has been wiped off the cosmetics industry by the increase in people working from home. I wonder if, over time, this will help women have a more realistic vision of themselves?

Frenchfancy · 17/01/2020 12:18

No. Eyeshadow and mascara and a bit of lipstick.

Footballerswife · 17/01/2020 12:20

Foundation for work
The whole she-bang for nights out
A tinted SPF and mascara for just local shopping or taking DS's to footy
I'd scare people if not
I'm 43

Wear it every day. Have acne scras and blotchy skin so look horrendouse with out it. But depending on what ma doing depends on what type i wear. I wear CC cream at weekends (It cosmetics have a very good one, expemsive but only use a tiny amount) Heavier foundation with powder for work as need it to last all day. It depends on what you like. Some friends only use powder and look amazing. I love make up though and like playing with different looks. So its up to you what you like

Skyejuly · 17/01/2020 12:26

I have never found a foundation that worked so never used it!

SunshineAngel · 17/01/2020 12:26

I never wear makeup, not even one bit.
I used to when I was younger, to hide acne, but when I eventually went to the doctors as it wasn't going away, she said that it would be good for me to stop using makeup for a while, to see if it helped.
It was HORRIBLE to go bare faced considering what my face looked like at the time, but it did help.
I have since realised that my skin on my face is very sensitive and every bar water irritates it. So I was just making my problem worse while trying to mask it.
I cannot justify wearing makeup now, as I know what it will do to my skin, so if I wore it, I would have to get back into the habit of wearing it every day, which I don't want to do.

peachgreen · 17/01/2020 12:27

Yes. But I love doing my make-up and find it a very relaxing start to the day.

sugarbum · 17/01/2020 12:31

No I rarely wear makeup unless I'm going out (and only then for a 'big' night out, which is maybe three times a year). I never have tbh. I'm 45 now. I just can't be arsed with it. I actually remember having a class conversation about this at art college (so I was 17/18) and I was the only one in the class not wearing makeup then as well.

Puffinhead · 17/01/2020 12:32

Yes, always. I have rosy cheeks that I hate and I feel naked without it. Don’t wear much else though.

emsyj37 · 17/01/2020 12:34

I'm 40 and wear foundation, concealer, blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and lipstick every single day ever. I look like I've been dug up without it. I love makeup and skin products and putting it on takes less than 10 mins and doesn't feel like a chore.
When I was in my 20s I wore a bit of very light foundation and mascara. The older I get, the more I channel Barbara Cartland.

RedskyAtnight · 17/01/2020 12:34

I don't wear makeup and I don't have a clue how many women in my office do. I suspect those statements might be related :)

Bibijayne · 17/01/2020 12:34

No. Rarely bother with any make up tbh

FloraGreysteel · 17/01/2020 12:35

53 and yes I have been wearing foundation in public since I was about 13. Not a heavy one, but a light-medium coverage depending on the occasion and how done the rest of my makeup is.

managedmis · 17/01/2020 12:35

I wear it daily

CooCooCoo · 17/01/2020 12:35

I do. It's the bare minimum on a lazy day. Otherwise its full eye make up too.

I simply like makeup though!

Snuffkindle · 17/01/2020 12:35

Yes I do. I work in an outward facing role with a very well coiffured and made up colleague in her 60s. I take my lead from her. I'm older now and recognise that I look better with a bit of foundation and mascara.
I used to work in public services where it was a totally different culture, and never wore any, but I was young and good looking and never gave it a seconds thought.

ashmts · 17/01/2020 12:35

Yes but I have a port wine stain on my cheek so I use a heavy concealer so that looks daft without foundation as a base. Which then looks daft without bronzer and before you know it you've done a full face. But it's a very natural look. If it wasn't for my birthmark I could get away with not wearing it, although I do feel more put together once I have it on. Only takes 10-15 minutes while I'm brushing my teeth, drying my hair etc. Not a big effort.

I'm 29 and some women at work don't wear it. Some people just have really good skin, I can't always tell who has it on and who doesn't.

Hoolihan · 17/01/2020 12:37

I wore tinted moisturiser on my wedding day but apart from that have never worn any kind of foundation (I'm 45).

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 17/01/2020 12:38

I'm 45 and never wear make up.

I did in my teens but stopped around 20.

Very few of my family, friends or colleagues of my age wear any.

I think it is one of those things that goes in fashions and your attitude towards probably depends to an extent on the fashions when you entered adulthood.

Pics · 17/01/2020 12:42

No. I prefer the look of natural skin - occasionally i wear a tinted moisturiser. I'm middle aged and my skin is in no way perfect.

PracticallyFamous · 17/01/2020 12:46

Never wear makeup for work. I used to when I was about your age OP, but over the years I stopped and I haven't worn it for a good 15 years or so. Since hitting perimenopause I have developed eczema on my face so it wouldn't be great for my skin to restart even if I wanted to, which I don't.

bellinisurge · 17/01/2020 12:47

No. Mascara. That's it.

keepingbees · 17/01/2020 12:47

I do, everyday. I'm mid thirties.

I get told I've got good skin but I haven't. Without make up it's patchy, sallow, oily and acne scarred.

I don't wear heavy eye and lip make up, I keep it fairly natural. But I feel very self conscious without it.

DelurkingAJ · 17/01/2020 12:47

Nope. Unless I want a face full of blackheads and spots (despite a full cleansing routine) I don’t.

I couldn’t tell you if anyone else in the office wears make up. It has zero effect on my views on their work.
