Does anyone agree with the continuing claims particularly amongst a lot of celebrities claim that the uk is fundamentally racist particularly in relations to Meghan-Markle.

I think as a country she was welcomed with open arms.

@bluebells100 I actually know/have met and have people close to me who know/regularly work with/are related to people in the public eye. Most of these people are aware that negative stuff could easily end up in the tabloids.

@SoVeryLost you mean she was acting exactly like the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince of Wales, Princess Royal etc when they do (or in one case did) Royal engagements? It is planned what charities/organisations they are associated with and what engagements they do so they can easily show interest.

bluebells100 · 16/01/2020 21:26

Samantha not true, all the live video showed the same, the constant coat flicking open too.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 16/01/2020 21:31

MM comes across as a not very nice person

Based upon what? An engagement video, a fairly brief interview with Harry, Wills and Kate and a few other bits of screen time here and there.

It's impossible to tell if she's nice or not from that.

Mrsgoggingsthe3rd · 16/01/2020 21:47

I think certain sections of the population are racist yes. Honestly I see it most from very working class members of the public I've encountered and very upper class members of the public I've encountered. Just my experience.

In terms of Meghan Markle I think it's bollocks. It's not because she mixed race, it's because she comes across as an annoying, false, diva! I don't actually think she is I just think she comes across quite badly. I cringe at her sometimes. That interview. I must admit I have eye rolled at her more than a few times. When was like 'not many people have asked if I'm ok' oh boohoo no one asked if I was ok when I had a baby or most people I know, it's shitty and not right but she's not a special case. And it's certainly not because she's mixed race.

@bluebells100 just look on Getty if you don't believe me. There's as many photos of her not holding her bump as there are of when she is holding it.

Though tbh I don't know why that incensed people so much.

mbosnz · 16/01/2020 23:20

I do think that the media must, given that's the channel via which we form our opinions of these people (most of us, that is) have huge power to wield in shaping how we perceive them.

And the media seems to see things in black and white. So you have The Good Princess. And then you have The Bad Princess.

And then there is Piers Bloody Awful, why the Hell does he Exist, Morgan. Who is misogynist to his bobby socks, and racist no doubt to bloody boot. Who has really got it in for Meghan.

Did Piers really think he had a chance with Megan? What an entitled twat.

SamanthaBrique · 17/01/2020 14:54

Piers Moron sounds deranged! He's acting like an incel stalker and has had it in for Meghan from the start. I think she met him for a drink ONCE and he's never got over the fact that she didn't want to see him again. Maybe the Palace told her not to or maybe one meeting was enough for her!

MrsBethel · 17/01/2020 17:35

I think you've got all degrees of stuff going on here.

You've got people taking a pop at her in a racist way. (All that 'straight outta Compton' stuff... Jesus)

You've got criticisms that have nothing to do with race. (eg criticisms of the recent announcement, the Disney thing)

You've got the whole Danny Baker thing. Which was clearly an accident (right he apologise, of course), but of course someone with a visceral experience of such comparisons may well not believe he could have not made the connection. And then the debate is in itself divisive.

You've got people going out of their way to criticise her in order to make a big fuss of denying that race has anything to do with it (Piers Morgan).

All in all it's a pretty nasty cocktail. Horrible stuff.
