It's funny watching people wish so hard, so very hard, for everyone to hate Meghan because it turns out she is mixed race and the whole country is secretly racist, while most Brits fail to notice, or care, or have anything negative to say about that, at all.

I never said everyone in Britain was racist but you can't deny she's been subjected to lots of abuse a lot of it racist.

Race is definitely an element for some, as is the fact that she is American (ridiculous comparisons with Wallis Simpson for example).

However, remember how horrible people used to be about Kate? Waity Katy, snide comments about how her mother used to be an air hostess, etc. etc. Now she's the blue eyed girl because Meghan is the target.

I don't blame them personally. I hope they'll be happy.

I think the difference with Kate is that she just kept her mouth shut and kept quiet and kind of endeared herself slowly over a long time.

Yes, and as a person of similar ethnicity to Meghan, I have to say I'm relieved. I hate seeing all of the hate she receives, knowing that the basis of attack is purely her race. Good for them, I hope they can find peace.

Race is definitely a big part. I was in my local charity shop recently over-hearing one volunteer telling another how Princess Diana must be turning in her grave since Harry married that "black" woman.

I think people are just sick and tired of their preachy crap. Colour/race doesn't come into it.

When you're working your arse off struggling to make ends meet, last thing you need is super privileged rich people telling you how to live your life.

Part of it is because she's black, partly because she's American and honestly I think a lot of it is to do with her being female and having an opinion.

Yes, her being American I can see being more of an issue if there was one. Much as we are all transatlantic kin there are some funny ideas coming from the North American corner of the world and the UK does like royals to be a bit stable and sensible (as far as anyone can tell).

As for her ethnicity? Broadly speaking, being a racist of that sort is considered morally low in the UK. If you are seeing it a lot I would tend to pay less attention to what the dregs of society think, and certainly don't assume most people care.
