Trump scares the hell out of me. Is there going to be WWIII?

The thing he said about the 52 sites of interest as retaliation for the Iranian hostages all those years ago tells me that
1.) He is insane
2.) that’s quite literally all he knows about Iran.

VivaLeBeaver · 05/01/2020 21:38

There’s been a few threads on the subject. I posted on one yesterday.

I’m not sure there will be a world war. I think there may be something similar to the Iraq war with Iran/Syria/Iraq ganging up against USA. I think traditional US allies such as the U.K., France will be reluctant to get involved. I don’t think Russia will want to openly back Syria. Not to say they won’t fund/arm them.

AfterSchoolWorry · 05/01/2020 21:38

Keto I meant, shit. Just been reading. Fucking Trump, he's a madman. Angry

Bicnod · 05/01/2020 21:38

It's very very worrying. UK is involved whether we like it or not as our troops are part of the coalition forces in Iraq fighting IS who have just been told to leave by the Iraqi government... If we stay when told to go by a sovereign state it is essentially an act of war. Trump will drag everyone down with him.

chomalungma · 05/01/2020 21:40

We also have the very tricky notion of working with the USA over Brexit. We need the USA and I don't think we can be seen to be not on their side.

Remember "You're either with us or against us"

mmabear · 05/01/2020 21:41

@chomalungma That is very true. We'll get dragged down in the mess of it all.

I think the U.K. will withdraw any troops in Iraq when told to do so. They won’t stay there against the Iraqis govt wishes.

So of course there’s the danger that ISIS gain more of a foothold.

ButterflyRuns · 05/01/2020 21:41

Any conflict will stay in the Middle East, but there’s no way anyone can say nothing will happen when Trump is deploying nearly 3,000 more troops and will convince our PM (who was silent on this up until today because he was on holiday) to join him.

Thelnebriati · 05/01/2020 21:42

Up until about 10 years ago I would have said that hopefully, as in the past, some sensible adults will step in at the last minute and calm it down. But that was before the Tories gutted the Civil Service, and Trump was voted in.

Freddiefox · 05/01/2020 21:42

Owhy can’t we leave... we’ve been their years and nothing has really got better why are we still there?

I’m embrassingly naive on the subject.

VivaLeBeaver · 05/01/2020 21:43

I said about brexit on the other thread. That trump may well try and force better backing by the U.K. about any military action by using trade deals as a bargaining tool. We are at a vulnerable time/position to such tactics due to Brexit.

NurseButtercup · 05/01/2020 21:43

If I was an IT engineer working at Twitter I would risk my job and disable Trump's Twitter account.

adaline · 05/01/2020 21:43

No, I don't think so.

But even if there is, there ain't no point in worrying about it.

Tillymintsmama · 05/01/2020 21:43

It's not WW3 that's a scary prospect per se, it's the prospect of a nuclear war.

Terrifying. My 11 year old DD asked me about it today and I just didn't know what to say or how to reassure her! I need that myself....

VivaLeBeaver · 05/01/2020 21:44

It would be hilarious if someone —Iran— hacked Trump’s twitter account.

chomalungma · 05/01/2020 21:45

Owhy can’t we leave... we’ve been their years and nothing has really got better why are we still there

We were there helping with the war on ISIS - which came into prominence after we attacked Iraq, destroyed its infrastructure, had no plan for regeneration and then ISIS rose up - and we all saw what happened there.

It's a fucking mess. One that we have a lot to answer for - if you look at the history of the region over the centuries.

ButterflyRuns · 05/01/2020 21:45

It would be hilarious if someone —Iran— hacked Trump’s twitter account.

They apparently hacked a government website so I’m sure they could pull it off Grin

Definitely plenty of cyber attacks to come since Iran is known for that.

Leaannb · 05/01/2020 21:45

@Freddiefox considering it was your citizens throwing rocks at american school children in 2003 at RAF Lakenheath,Feltwell and Mildenhall do you blame us? My 24 yo still carries the scar from that as he serves at Lakenheath today

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 05/01/2020 21:45

I wouldn't be surprised if there are more terrorist attacks here in the US, which is very frightening.

I personally don't think there'll be WW3, it would be too devastating for the world.

NurseButtercup · 05/01/2020 21:46

BJ has issued a statement saying he's focussed on peace talks, I bloody hope he sticks to this!

dementedma · 05/01/2020 21:47

Some people are calling for Twitter to suspend Trump’s account as it is openly inciting violence and breaching codes of conduct.

Iran has just pulled out of the nuclear agreement they were previously bound by....

Pinkyyy · 05/01/2020 21:47

I have a lot of admiration for Mr Trump and I think we could do with someone like him over here. He has managed to do something that his two predecessors didn't even attempt. He has killed two terrorist leaders. I don't think there will be a WW3.

ButterflyRuns · 05/01/2020 21:48

BJ has issued a statement saying he's focussed on peace talks, I bloody hope he sticks to this!

Does he stick to anything he says apart from hammering the one Brexit line in? I definitely don't trust him, or Dominic Raab for that matter, with our foreign policy. We all know the UK will just do as America dictates, sadly.

Bloke23 · 05/01/2020 21:49

Ww3? No, not with iran, america can take out all of Iranians air asset's and navy within a few days!
America has 10 strike fleets available 2 or 3 will be enough
