Trump scares the hell out of me. Is there going to be WWIII?

OP posts:
mokapot · 06/01/2020 00:53

@Notagainnnn
Please don’t be so stupid to conflate foreign policy with domestic policy:

What goes in Iran is none of your business: with that train of thought, why aren’t you asking the states to “ save” Saudi, Pakistan etc who have atrocious human rights records???!!!

Bit bloody naive aren’t you ?

mokapot · 06/01/2020 00:54

Ps we can’t forget how saintly trump treats his women pussys!!!!! Trumps quote, not mine

Creepster · 06/01/2020 00:57

If you read through the timeline of the lead up to WWII the echoes of history will inform you of where we are in the run up to WWIII.

Notagainnnn · 06/01/2020 00:57

Oh get over the pussy thing, many men and women have said sexual comments about people who do it for them.

And it doesn't matter if it is foreign or domestic policy it is still disgusting to hang women for not covering their heads in 2020!!

irrationalrainbow · 06/01/2020 00:58

No chance of world war whatsoever another gulf war possible but hopefully not

irrationalrainbow · 06/01/2020 00:59

You will get your rent a mob, but in reality you see the protests but people don't care.

irrationalrainbow · 06/01/2020 01:20

Stop worrying about things out of your control relax

mokapot · 06/01/2020 01:45

So go after Saudi. Leave Iran and infact their issues alone. Anyways I’m out of this: it’s like taking to a bloody brick wall.

Mimishimi · 06/01/2020 03:01

There's noone left to fight. They knocked a lot of us all off in WW1/WW2 and rest of us are jaded and stopped breeding in response.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/01/2020 03:04

No. Stop being silly.

Trump threatens sanctions if Iraq tells them to leave

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-51003159

""We have a very extraordinarily expensive air base that's there. It cost billions of dollars to build. We're not leaving unless they pay us back for it," he told reporters"

He does remember that the USA destroyed Iraq and invaded it?

chomalungma · 06/01/2020 08:16

And on cultural targets...

"He also repeated a controversial threat to target Iranian cultural sites on Sunday, despite criticism from within the US and overseas.

"They're allowed to kill our people. They're allowed to torture and maim our people. They're allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people. And we're not allowed to touch their cultural site? It doesn't work that way," the president said. "

"A reminder to those hallucinating about emulating ISIS war crimes by targeting our cultural heritage," he tweeted. "Through MILLENNIA of history, barbarians have come and ravaged our cities, razed our monuments and burnt our libraries. Where are they now? We're still here, & standing tall."

Targeting cultural sites is banned under the Geneva and Hague Conventions - and violating them would constitute a war crime in the US.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/01/2020 09:03

Except when their president is facing impeachment

Exactly - this is to take the heat off him at home.

"When in doubt - start a war."

And Twitter has a terrifying number of supportive idiots posts for him.

They are all saying things like "this man was a brutal tyrant and deserved to die", and "Jesus wanted him dead" and "Trump had to do this to protect the people of Iran" and so on.

None of them seem able to see that people like Trump, even if "democratically elected" are even more of a threat to the world (and that includes their own nation) than any military leader in another country.

The hypocrisy is staggering!

I think many Americans think that they can still fight their wars o other people's soil, and remain untouched themselves. You'd think the Twin Towers would have shown them otherwise, but they think that was a one-off. The US, sadly, is a very warlike nation just because it feels safe.

It isn't.

MelroseHigginbottom · 06/01/2020 09:30

If there is a WWIII it won't be because of Trump!

Some on here need to read this.

Mimishimi · 06/01/2020 11:09

Chomalungma: This is part of what was originally a five year plan to take out seven Muslim countries. A plan which was published exactly one year before 9/11 with a document called "Rebuilding America's Defenses' by the organization PNAC.

Internal opposition to becoming cannon fodder for those wars and immediate exposure of the perpetrators means they haven't quite panned out as planned but the criminals running the show are still carrying on by all means possible.

The US is being milked.

The president of the United States is threatening to commit war crimes on Twitter. What a world.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/01/2020 12:13

Wise points, Notagainnnn. No doubt unwelcome to the sort of poster who last night called for the leader of the free world to be assassinated, but wise all the same

Depressing, too, to see the usual outbreak of everything's-the-fault-of-the-west, and hard not to wonder what's going on in these folks' minds. Do they really think despite the lessons of history that appeasement works, or is it possible they might understand just how much weakness is despised by those who seek to destroy us?

Hefzi · 06/01/2020 12:24

I have posted this on the existing thread - www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/soleimani-anti-imperialist-hero-200105211451136.html - but am reposting here in case it reassures anyone who is worried.

I am interested to know where mokapot's lengthy quote was from - it was ridiculously inaccurate and misleading as a result.

THREAD: Over the past few days, I've spoken extensively with career U.S. government officials as they've worked around the clock to try and mitigate the damage from Trump's ineptitude on Iran. With their permission, I'm sharing a small taste from our lengthy conversations. Enjoy.
"We have no functional national security decision-making process in place. We have no plan for what comes next. They are woefully unprepared for what's about to pop off, and they're too stupid to realize it. People here are freaking out, and rightfully so."
"We're still trying to dig out from underneath the last war of choice, and now they're trying to start a new one. I finally cracked open the bottle of scotch you gave me that I've been keeping stashed away in my desk drawer."
"I'm gonna call you later tonight to talk through this so I can go into meetings tomorrow armed with some sane talking points to insert into this clusterfuck."
"When did most of us find out about killing Soleimani? After it already happened. Since then, we've been trying to cobble together contingency planning on the fly, but these charlatans ignore most of it, and then Trump does more stupid shit that puts us back at square one."
"All Trump cares about is shitting on Obama's legacy, sucking up to donors, and distracting from impeachment. None of this is about American interests or security. He's surrounded by ideological lunatic sycophants like Pence and Pompeo. But they're far from the only ones."
"So many of Trump's top advisors on Iran are military vets who served multiple tours of duty in our wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. They believe to their core that Iran is the reason why they lost those wars, and they're dead set on payback - no matter what it takes."
"They've been pushing to kill Soleimani for years, and they finally baited Trump into it. They think war with Iran is long overdue, so for them, this was a means to an end. When Iran responds, they'll tell Trump to hit the Iranians harder. You see where this could go."
"They know the Iraqis are gonna kick them out now, so they're gonna try to kill as many as possible on their way out. Iranians, Iraqis, whoever. Some of them are advising Trump to tell the Iraqi government to fuck off and dare them to make us leave. I shit you not. Insanity."
"When I used your points about Soleimani's murder being a catalyst for Iranians to rally around the flag, they said that was 'Obama apologist bullshit,' and the Soviet Union forced people against their will into public displays of support. So apparently Iran is a superpower now."
"Trump is threatening war crimes against Iran, and none of his top advisors have the courage to publicly oppose it. Instead, they act like cowards and go on background with journalists to express their opposition. They should all resign. They don't deserve to serve this country."
"We have friends that are getting deployed into war zones, but for what? Trump has deployed 14,000 troops over the past 6 months, and it didn't prevent the current crisis. At what point do we start asking whether deploying troops is part of the problem rather than the solution?"
"The scariest part is that they're just making shit up to justify their preferred course of action. When we point out inaccuracies or question logic, we're at best yelled at or at worst cut out of the process. Most of the political appointees are paranoid, unqualified, or both."
"Last year, if you would've asked me whether American institutions are durable enough to prevent a Trump-led war with Iran, I would've said absolutely. Today, I'm not so sure. For as bad as it looks to you all on the outside, it's even worse when you see it from the inside."
"One of Trump's top Iran advisors got suckered into a honey trap, had their laptop/iPhone stolen and hacked before they woke up, and the White House refused to take precautionary measures regarding their security clearance. Ladies and gents, I give you the Trump administration."
In conclusion: Yes, folks. It really is that bad. I am but a humble messenger of truth. The voice of the voiceless. That is all. You may now return to your regularly scheduled programming.
