Prince George’s outfit

There’s a new royal portrait featuring the queen & her direct heirs. I know they seem to prefer traditional (to the point of twee) clothes for George, but AIBU to find his outfit odd? The shirt & trousers jar for me

At least he’s not wearing slip on shoes this time

Like the trews. Don’t like the shirt.

Am sure they don’t care what I think though!

CherryPavlova · 04/01/2020 09:27

Looks like a perfectly ordinary outfit for a formal occasion to me. He’s only young so it looks perfectly appropriate for a first photograph in long trousers. Personally, I’d think shorts were better still but I suspect he wants to look grown up.

DickDewy · 04/01/2020 09:28

In sharp contrast, the most recent photo of Archie showed him wearing cute, trendy clothes. Which is normal for 2020.

MrsWombat · 04/01/2020 09:29

On their Christmas card photo, which was posted on twitter by a recipient, George is apparently wearing H&M so he doesn't wear this sort of thing all the time.

ofay · 04/01/2020 09:29

They obviously bought a job lot of those weird blouses they stick poor little George in. I wonder what size they go up to, hopefully not teenage.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/01/2020 09:30

The shirt is from Amalia Kids
Kate has dressed all the children in this label. But I think the shirt is too babyish for George. However Louis looked adorable in a smocked top at trooping the colour, and George looked fine in piping when he was younger.

Agree with pps the shirt didn’t match the trousers.
But I thought the black watch tartan really suited him.
A normal shirt and little tie would have been better.
It’s a difficult one because an open collar would have been a bit casual.
He looked smart on Xmas day in the little suit with the navy jumper.

I resent the huge amount of money we throw at this ordinary family.

viques · 04/01/2020 09:36

I feel story for Louis, his mother will be keeping all those shirts and dragging them out of the clothes cupboard/ room/wing for years to come. It's not easy being the younger child where clothes are concerned, you grow out of your own stuff then find there is an identical outfit hanging there with your siblings name crossed out and yours pencilled in......

Sigh.

bobstersmum · 04/01/2020 09:36

She has some sort of gun in that bag, that can be triggered by just squeezing the handles, OK I've been recently watching Kingsman lol.

Santasy · 04/01/2020 09:38

I thought it was a skit: the Harry Enfield version Blush. I didn't have my glasses on.

But really, they are a bit of a joke.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 04/01/2020 09:38

The article though. ‘Button-down shirt and tartan pants’? Does the Independent not have a UK style guide?

Boulshired · 04/01/2020 09:39

I hate the photograph, either protect Charlotte and Louis from the media or refuse whilst they are children to separate them as heir and spares.

noodlenosefraggle · 04/01/2020 09:39

Oh yes poor Louis will have to wear hand me downs in all photo ops in order to facilitate the Daily Mails wet dreams about Kate and how frugal she is!

Yetanotherwinter · 04/01/2020 09:41

He’s been wearing that shirt in every formal pic. She’s clearly bought one in every size. The trousers are even worse. They are like Rupert Bear on a dull day. I feel even more sorry for poor Louise who dresses like a granny.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/01/2020 09:42

Spare a thought for poor baby Damian Hurley who was forced into lace ruffles. He does however seem to have forgiven dear Mama and grown into quite the dashing Fop!

“Dashing fop” is putting it mildly Grin!

NewName73 · 04/01/2020 09:43

He's wearing a very similar shirt to the one he wore for the same photo when he was 2!

Agree, it's less suitable for a boy of 9. I like the tartan trews though.

And clearly the Independent seems to be chasing a US audience. Bizarre!

Nonnymum · 04/01/2020 09:45

TaxFool I'm pretty sure no one is picking on the child. Just the clothes that the adults are making him wear.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/01/2020 09:45

George is only 6!

MarkingTimeIm59 · 04/01/2020 09:45

Even his school uniform would have looked better.
This - ugh.

Agree about the handbag, it lends a sort of Dame Edna quality for me

Me too. She was even holding it while stirring the Christmas pudding in the earlier family photo. Odd to say the least.

NewName73 · 04/01/2020 09:49

Oops. Well I think the shirt is OK for a 6-year old at a formal occasion then.

Has anyone ever seen a photo of the Queen without her handbag?
