Prince George’s outfit

There’s a new royal portrait featuring the queen & her direct heirs. I know they seem to prefer traditional (to the point of twee) clothes for George, but AIBU to find his outfit odd? The shirt & trousers jar for me

I also think that he’s very cute on this picture: looks so grown up and very much like the Queen.
She probably has her mobile in the bag so she could post any time on Mumsnet, I do this all the time, Wink.

Sparklybaublefest · 04/01/2020 08:59

He looks happy

Pipstelle · 04/01/2020 09:02

None of it fits properly and the shirt doesn't go with the trousers. Kate must not have been there because that was a hot mess of an outfit. The photographer couldn't even get a proper smile out of him. And why did no one straighten Will's tie?

diddl · 04/01/2020 09:03

I love the trousers!

I don't think that the shirt really "goes" although it's reminiscent of a previous photo of the 4 of them a couple of years ago isn't it?

What should he have worn I wonder?

Shirt & jumper?

PineappleDanish · 04/01/2020 09:03

And I didn't realise george was standing on a box!

Timmythatyou · 04/01/2020 09:03

The ‘heirs’ to the throne. I doubt that kid is going to get to sit on a throne, with a bit of luck anyway. Outdated privilege at its’ worst and they can’t even dress properly...

PaddingtonBearHardStare · 04/01/2020 09:04

Lol George and Charles are stood up a step that's why she looks small. The first thing I thought was Charles isn't taller than William

I love his expression!

Looks really cheeky.

Looks a lot like Kate when she was young to me.

JaniceBattersby · 04/01/2020 09:06

He’s been wearing that same shirt for every public appearance since 2015!

We don’t get to see the royals off duty very much because of the press agreement with the palace but they print lots of pictures in papers abroad and he’s always dressed perfectly normally in those. He wears jeans, trainers and a gilet most of the time.

Dapplegrey · 04/01/2020 09:06

I don’t think anyone’s picking on the child per se, rather those who dress him.

Maybe George chose his outfit.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 04/01/2020 09:08

I thought they all looked very nice but did wonder why no-one had ironed George's trousers! Could be a deceptive effect of the pattern though - I am also the last person in the world to comment on ironed status as my children asked what the iron was in amazement once Blush

zen1 · 04/01/2020 09:08

Like the trousers, but they don’t go with the shirt which looks very old-fashioned. They do seem to dress their children very formally (even when snapped on unofficial occasions). I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of Charlotte not dressed in a smart dress and cardigan. In the 80s, William and Harry had a lot of normal looking clothes as well as formal suits etc.

Doubletrouble99 · 04/01/2020 09:09

I agree about the shirt/blouse on George, looks far too little Lord Fauntleroy! As for the Queen and her handbag, I'm not too bothered about it in that photo but the one the other week with them supposed to be making Xmas Puddings, just looked weird and staged with her clinging onto that blessed bag. They could at least have put pinnys on them or not worn their Sunday Best!

MsTSwift · 04/01/2020 09:09

Because their methods of child rearing has been so successful in the past Hmm

Kate needs to pushback abit imo

nowaypose · 04/01/2020 09:10

I think he only has to wear this sort of crap for official photos. If you look at pics Kate has taken at home he looks like a normal six year old. The shirt is weird and I can’t imagine he’ll want to wear it in a few years, they’ve always dressed him in shirts like that. The trousers are nice though.

MarySidney · 04/01/2020 09:10

Never seen him in anything but shorts.

I'm sure there was an outdoor family photo last year in which he was wearing jeans.

The handbag has become part of the Queen's image. There was a photo a while ago where one of the little great granddaughters was holding it.

And she probably needs it in some of the royal residences, it's probably a long way to trek back to her bedroom to fetch a hankie or her reading glasses or some lip salve; easier to keep everything with her in a handbag.

C8H10N4O2 · 04/01/2020 09:11

They dress George like little Lord Fauntleroy and the older he gets the more silly it looks.

The outfit is awful but its part of a stepping up of the reinforcement of the succession and continuity images. There has been an increase in this type of image over the last year or two, not surprising considering the amout of bad PR being generated from within the family creating questions about their point of existence.

Mooserp · 04/01/2020 09:13

I think it's a pretty poor photo really, oddly composed. William looks like he's standing a long way behind. Messy background, my eye is drawn to the wents in the wall on the right.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 04/01/2020 09:14

George is just wearing his 'work' outfit.

I think they should have gone for no handbags at all, or all four carrying a handbag for a more pulled together group look.

And all of them in tartan trews too, please.

Mimca · 04/01/2020 09:15

Great trousers! I just hope they received a multi-buy discount on those shirts, they have featured in many photos over the years.

GoFiguire · 04/01/2020 09:18

Queeenie needs something to do for her hands. If she wasn’t holding her bag then she’d be smoking a fag.

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 04/01/2020 09:19

The shirt and trousers will doubtless be flying off the shelves, wherever they came from, like the bobble hat Archie has just been pictured wearing.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-50981194

At least Archie's hat will benefit a good cause.

WanderingAimlessly · 04/01/2020 09:21

Don’t they always stick him in a variation of that blouse for formal occasions? He’s too old for it now and looks a bit silly. They need to give him a more normal shirt style, especially with the oddly big trousers. He’s growing up, they need to allow his clothes to grow up with him. Mind you, who knows, maybe he was rolling around on floor refusing to get dressed at all five minutes before the photo was taken like my boy would have been!

HouseworkAvoider10 · 04/01/2020 09:24

yeah he's all trussed up like a throwback to 1920. they dress that kid weird.

DickDewy · 04/01/2020 09:26

That outfit is atrocious. Those silly piped shirts! Poor child.

Yes, dress him smartly but why dress him like a mimsy twerp?

And now the handbag’s been pointed out, it does look rather incongruous.
