Prince George’s outfit

There’s a new royal portrait featuring the queen & her direct heirs. I know they seem to prefer traditional (to the point of twee) clothes for George, but AIBU to find his outfit odd? The shirt & trousers jar for me

Trousers are fine for the occasion, not sure the shirt goes with it though. Maybe it’s the Peter Pan collar that does it, kind of think he getting a little old for them now. Each to their own though I guess!

sluj · 04/01/2020 08:43

He looks very much like the Spencers, in particular Diana's brother.

Sylvestre · 04/01/2020 08:43

The shirt and trousers don’t seem to have anything to do with each other. A plain white shirt without piping and without looking like a blouse would seem a better combination.

I read The Queen has 200 handbags by the same designer. She was shown with about 6 or 7 of them in the article. All black and other than a few details, very similar. How many black handbags does one person need?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 04/01/2020 08:44

Ok quick Google- it's Blackwatch tartan, 3rd battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland, colonel of which is the Duke of Rothesay (aka Prince Charles).

Growingboys · 04/01/2020 08:44

No I think he looks adorable. He's the future King FFS, he's not going to wear trackies from Sports Direct.

I think he looks cute.

Is it just me or is his hair turning a touch auburn as he grows up?

Lllot5 · 04/01/2020 08:46

Yeah me too @happy97 thought he was a bit auburn.

Sylvestre · 04/01/2020 08:46

I know he’s a future king Bernadette but surely there are appropriate outfits that are a long way off trackies from Sports Direct. Chino trousers and a shirt, a suit, smart casual trousers and a shirt etc etc.

MelroseHigginbottom · 04/01/2020 08:48

For me it's not the shirt so much as the fact he's wearing trousers! Never seen him in anything but shorts.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/01/2020 08:49

The Queen looks tiny!

FredaFrogspawn · 04/01/2020 08:49

Prince Charles looks more like Michael Winner by the day.

LaurieMarlow · 04/01/2020 08:49

He's the future King FFS, he's not going to wear trackies from Sports Direct.

Well of course not.

But that doesn’t mean he should look like a badly styled Rupert Bear.

thickwoollytights · 04/01/2020 08:51

The Queen looks tiny!

I was thinking that @yet

PaddingtonBearHardStare · 04/01/2020 08:53

The photo must have been taken at the same time as filming the Queen's Speech with them making Christmas pudding. The Queen is wearing the same outfit as the photo and obviously the others are in dark suits. I remember it clearly as I thought who lets a child bake in a white shirt with no apron Xmas Grin

It’s a lovely photo but he looks a little bit fling together, like it doesn’t quite fit him properly?

He does seem tall even on the step but his mum is tall isn’t she?

pinkmagic1 · 04/01/2020 08:55

I imagine it is just for the photo and at home he is more than likely in tracksuit bottoms like any other little boy. They have to portray a very traditional image to the public.
Agree with a previous poster that the Queen looks genuinely happy, which is rare to see. The only other times I have seen photos of her looking genuinely happy is when she is with her horses.

Cornettoninja · 04/01/2020 08:55

Meh, the royals have some bonkers clothes in the name of tradition...

I’m more bothered by Williams tie - it’s crooked!

Troels · 04/01/2020 08:56

The shirt looks a bit to young for him. It'd work on a toddler, but he's older now he'd have looked nicer in a normal shirt. I like the trousers.

Babybel90 · 04/01/2020 08:56

I love the trousers but the shirt looks more like a blouse.

QueenofLouisiana · 04/01/2020 08:57

I thought that he was dressed in such things just for photos and public appearances. The idea being that when he wears tshirts and (no doubt expensive!) jeans, he is less instantly recognisable.

PineappleDanish · 04/01/2020 08:57

It's his "royal uniform" - traditional clothes which won't date and aren't following a particular fashion.

I'm sure that when he gets home from school he'll change into jeans and a t-shirt like most kids.

How tiny is Queenie though - George won't be 7 until the summer and he's almost as tall as she is!

DarkDarkNight · 04/01/2020 08:58

The trousers and shirt don’t really match no. It must be hard to get that style of clothes for older Children. They often stop at younger sizes.

That said I understand the formal clothes for appearances and official portraits. He definitely isn’t dressed like that all the time.

AfterSchoolWorry · 04/01/2020 08:58

The trousers are fine. The blouse is awful. I'm embarrassed for the poor kid. 🤦🏻‍♀

Silvercatowner · 04/01/2020 08:58

Sheldon has a suit in a similar material to those trousers.
