Prince George’s outfit

There’s a new royal portrait featuring the queen & her direct heirs. I know they seem to prefer traditional (to the point of twee) clothes for George, but AIBU to find his outfit odd? The shirt & trousers jar for me

I think Charles and William will focus on e environmental issues and Charles especially will reduce the royal spend and increase income through opening the public buildings etc.

BiBiBirdie · 05/01/2020 14:34

I find it more offensive that as a country we still subscribe to this elitist bollocks.

juneo63 · 05/01/2020 17:48

Lovely picture, very traditional, it wouldn't look right/like royalty's dressed in 'modern' clothing!!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/01/2020 17:58

Agreed. Charles has been associated with Environmental issues for decades. He also has a reputation for speaking out; so once he is king, hopefully he can use his position of influence for good in that direction.

Likewise, since at least the Jubilee; his stance on slimming down the RF has been very clear.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 05/01/2020 18:02

so yet another balding middle aged man, who doesn't have the same symbolism as a young attractive Queen.

Well, he’s not going to have the same symbolism as a young attractive King either.

di2004 · 05/01/2020 18:42

Yep I agree. The outfit looks too twee, to be honest it looks like a blouse. Also, I can’t get away with the wee fella’s hairstyle. He reminds me of Gordon Brown ( yes I know Hmm)!
I just wish they would stop making him like he was born in the forties.

HappyHarlot · 05/01/2020 18:54

I read once that the Royal family dressed their children in a more traditional way so that the photos don't age as much.

MintyMabel · 05/01/2020 19:12

But no one should be forced or encouraged to wear something they are u comfortable in. Don't think he looks particularly comfortable and part of your job as a parent is to provide experiences/clothing etc that allow your child to feel comfortable and fit in as they wish.

Oh come on. It is for a formal photo. Of course parents dress their kids up in their best least comfortable clothes.

Isn’t part of your job as a parent to teach your children we all have to do things we don’t want to sometimes.

Frazzledstar1 · 05/01/2020 19:15

Love the trousers, not keen on the shirt, but that’s just my opinion.

newbingepisodes · 05/01/2020 19:32

I love them, my DS suits clothes like this.

GoFiguire · 05/01/2020 23:28

My DS has clothes like this.

Petlover9 · 06/01/2020 07:25

@Timmythatyou - Totally agree, outdated and they own too many homes. They descended from bullies on horseback but were taken over by a bloke known as the Conqueror - what an expensive farce. The “blouse” looks stupid; no Primark nearby?

Petlover9 · 06/01/2020 07:28

@BiBiBirdie - could not have put it better

Onceuponatimethen · 06/01/2020 07:29

I love it

Candymay · 06/01/2020 07:55

The blouse is what he wears for all official photos. I did think he looked a bit mismatched though.

CallaLilli · 06/01/2020 08:03

@di2004 That's because he takes after his maternal grandfather, who does bear a slight resemblance to Gordon!

noodlenosefraggle · 06/01/2020 08:25

Yes. I really dont think George will be King after Charles and William have had a go, or if he is, it will be a very different setup.

Whatsitthingy · 06/01/2020 09:43

If they ended up like the Sandi royals I could just about tolerate them - quaint traditions rather than unelected influencers who meet with the PM and have to sign off on laws...

Whatsitthingy · 06/01/2020 09:43

Scandi royals...

noodlenosefraggle · 06/01/2020 11:50

Agree whstsitthingy And much slimmed down, which I think Charles will do, to be fair to him. I suspect he has spoken to his sons about this already, hence Harry deciding to pull away a bit already and give Archie just a normal name with no titles.

BertrandRussell · 06/01/2020 14:26

I think we should either have a monarchy or not. I don’t see the point of a monarchy at all- but at least at the moment we get some gossip and spectacle. What would we get from a “slimmed down” monarchy?

noodlenosefraggle · 06/01/2020 14:52

Well, nothing obviously! But it will be very difficult I think to justify having the whole shebang - second cousins and the like on the Royal gravy train in the future and I'm not sure anyone really cares enough to get rid of them entirely.

di2004 · 06/01/2020 18:53

@CallaLilli Yes I have to agree with you, he does look like his maternal grandfather. He’s the double of Gordon Brown!!

crestedrobin · 07/01/2020 11:51

but at least at the moment we get some gossip and spectacle

The trouble is when you "gossip" in a negative way you get called jealous, mean spirited etc. If you criticise them people come on and tell you off for either "putting another woman down" (if it's about a female) or you get told "you don't know her/him so how can you possibly say anything. I find that many people are strangely protective of the RF. I mean as if they need defending.

Dapplegrey · 07/01/2020 12:29

I mean as if they need defending.

Crestedrobin - Maybe people defend criticism of the Royal family that is gratuitously unpleasant or unfair.
Do you think everyone who is rich or privileged should be impervious to criticism - or maybe because they are rich and privileged they deserve it?
