Prince George’s outfit

There’s a new royal portrait featuring the queen & her direct heirs. I know they seem to prefer traditional (to the point of twee) clothes for George, but AIBU to find his outfit odd? The shirt & trousers jar for me

The reason for the awkward business with mixing bowls is that they knew the public had started to link the Royal Family with a downmarket foodstuff beginning with a 'p' after an unfortunate event involving Andy and decided to try and replace it with a more traditional and appropriate foodstuff beginning with a 'p'.

I read he runs around in an England kit and like most kids his age he has to dress to go to grandma - leave him alone

Misscromwellrocks · 04/01/2020 21:18

Not mad about the shirt but as a traditional 'royal family' type photograph it looks OK.

I doubt he is dressed like that in his normal everyday life.

Bluerussian · 04/01/2020 21:25

What is wrong with the Queen's handbag? It contains hanky, spare stockings, lipstick, peppermints. I have X-ray eyes.

I liked the photo she had taken a while back with her great grandchildren and youngest grandchildren where little Mia was holding her granny's handbag, it was sweet.

Eh? It’s not the 1950s.

Yes it was. Because that was much more a family snap.

It just looks odd to me in a portrait.

I think he looks lovely and happy.

But I'm surprised his trousers weren't nearly pressed and I think maybe the shirt is slightly too small but really I couldn't give a crap what he wears. Confused

Queenie looks delighted which is nice to see

littlebillie · 04/01/2020 23:43

Laurie your getting your picture taken with granny. I think most kids would dress up and be expected to on a family picture.

I think he is more Windsor than Spencer

poppycity · 05/01/2020 05:00

I think it's the trousers with the shirt. A terrible mismatch!

Bluerussian · 05/01/2020 05:35

The idea was to show the heirs to the throne. There can't have been that many monarchs, if any, who were around long enough to do that. It's a good picture.

Strategicchoring · 05/01/2020 05:45

I love a Peter Pan collar but only for the under fives!

I think George looks a lot like Charles Spencer. Poor wee lad I wonder if he knows his destiny?

CallaLilli · 05/01/2020 07:02

George is 100% Middleton. He's the image of Kate's dad!

ticking · 05/01/2020 07:41

I imagine after seeing that picture that they are lining him up to be the next Duke of Edinburgh...

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/01/2020 07:51

The next Duke of Edinburgh is Prince Edward.

This was the last time; with Queen Victoria

This of all the heirs together was a much better photo.

It wasn't George's attire so much as the awful composition of that photo that struck me. It was like looking at a Medieval painting where the figures were all out of proportion.

CallaLilli · 05/01/2020 09:14

Agree @YetAnotherSpartacus, it's the composition not the trousers that bothers me! It looks like a photoshop job rather than an actual photograph.

HandsDownRoundTheTown · 05/01/2020 09:47

I think his clothes are so so but I actually love the portrait. It’s formal (that is its purpose so fine) but I love Charles’ grandfatherly arm around George and they all look happy 😃

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 05/01/2020 09:50

To me, they all look slightly rigid and unnatural as if they are not quite themselves, more like their wax counterparts in Madame Tussauds.

I don't know if it's my imagination but they also appear a little apprehensive to me, as if they know that the curtain has been pulled back too far, the mystique has gone and at any moment the audience could decide to stop paying for the circus.

It’s a composition. The photographer is presumably a professional and if the composition is like medieval painting, that makes it charming.

midnightmisssuki · 05/01/2020 11:24

I think He looks nice. Maybe his mum told him to go pick an outfit out himself and he did. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Either way, I don’t think he cares much what we think of his choice of tartan trousers and a white shirt.

Peregrina · 05/01/2020 12:53

I too wondered if they were tempting fate.
When the Queen came to the throne, she was young with a young family which somehow symbolised a country getting back on its feet after a gruelling war.

What does Charles symbolise? Whatever it is, he hasn't time to build up a reputation as King. Even William is now quite a lot older than the Queen was when she came to the throne - so yet another balding middle aged man, who doesn't have the same symbolism as a young attractive Queen.

brassbrass · 05/01/2020 14:28

Let's face it neither Charles nor William stand for anything.

Sexist.
