I was clearing out an old handbag and I found an old bank card for an account I don’t use anymore!! Thought I would check it out...turned out it had over £800 in it!!! OMG!! It’s like a little Christmas bonus from myself!! Yippee!!

I found £20 under the washing machine last week :-)

Happy Christmas OP

@Queenest OLD coins are still legal tender ! don't throw them out.

You can pay them into a bank if you hold an account there.

I cleared out my uncles bedroom - found loads of 1/2p's and old 5 & 10ps - all changed by the bank. Its the same for old notes.

If you find old notes of other currencies, there are online sites where you can check the value and send them in to be exchanged - all the pre Euro currencies etc

@redsquirrl - I see you've been tagged by a couple of PP's - just to say you need to have an account at the bank you go to change them at

Serendipity! I am so glad for you, it's great to hear such excellent news.
Cheers Wine.

How do you trace shares that you own if you've lost track? I had some with BT yonks ago but moved abroad and stopped getting post about them about 10 years ago. Anyone know? Not that I think they are worth a dime these days!

Lovely to hear all these great stories. Happy Christmas!

Aglet · 15/12/2019 21:19

A few years ago I was tidying out a drawer which contained, among other things, an open pack of small sanitary towels which I took on holiday just in case. When I looked inside the pack, I saw a little wad of notes. There was £140 that I had hidden in there as spare cash in case needed, and forgot about. I was skint at the time so it was a lovely surprise.

lowlandLucky · 15/12/2019 21:22

Cherrysoup · 15/12/2019 22:46

Is old money still able to be changed? I found 2 pound coins left by my farrier that I’d never found, I put holes in them and they’re now part of a key ring.

My dad phoned me one day to say mum’s lump retirement sum was in an account he’d forgotten about. I’m pretty sure he can’t have forgotten, it was £36K and he was a savvy bloke when it came to finance (worked in VAT!)

Aroundnabout1 · 15/12/2019 22:52

For some reason i liked this one and it cheered me up. Enjoy treating yourself Wine

Pjsandbaileys · 15/12/2019 22:55

Wow such a pressie for yourself!! I thought my tumble dryer breaking down was too skint to have someone look at it so had a wee home myself and found a £20 note jamming the air out tube, worked perfectly after I took it out. No costly repair needed and I had £20 was at one of my most skint points was like winning the lotto!!

Monday55 · 15/12/2019 22:57

Had the bank card expired OP?

FagashJackie · 15/12/2019 23:23

What a nice thing to find! Enjoy it.
