Yay.

I had similar today. Buying a treat £12 for two people dinner in M&S today and some other bits. The lady on the till asked for my Sparks card and while routing through my purse I found an M&S gift card with £25 on it.

Omg lucky you! I would tell DH but not the whole truth haha!! I'd say I have my old account and there's 300 in it! Then I'd go out on a spree for my kids with the other 500!

We had a clear out today, chucked out some old coats and found £1.60 in one of the pockets. But the £1 coin and 50p were both old coins no longer valid. Oh well Grin

@redsquirrl

You can change old Bank of England currency indefinitely, certainly at Barclays if you have an account there. Can't vouch for other banks but know you can there.

I found some Turkish Liras in a drawer last week in an envelope with the receipt from my holiday earlier this year took them back to M&S and got £70 back and I’ve just received a tax rebate for £41.40
Also I was checking my bank account online and realized I’d finished paying this years water bill by direct debit so no more payments now until February an extra £66 a month better off

Lovely. And for those saying how, if you transfer everything over to new account with direct debits etc and think you’ve been fully paid for last job you wouldn’t necessarily look in that account.

Haven't got a clue of how you can not miss so much money..seriously weird...the 14 £50 notes post is ridiculous to me!

Closest I have been to a windfall recently is checking through some old gift cards..Discovered I have £32 on an M&S one.

We sued a surveyor years ago and had to give our solicitor £2000. to start the case. A year later the claim was settled and we got paid out.
3 years after that the solicitor wrote to say our cheque although paid in had never been entered correctly into the accounts and this had been discovered at audit. It was cheaper for them to give us back £2000. than redo the accounts so we got an unexpected chq just as my son was starting university.

Not quite the same but I kept thinking I should try the PPP reclaim process as I thought I might be entitled to something. DH put me off for over a year saying I’d get inundated with spam emails and calls etc. Anyway, following good advice on here I ignored him ...forgot about it and then one day absentmindedly open a letter telling me I was due £1100

Lovely news!!

On fireworks might it was raining and I put my salopets on to stay warm & dry. I’d put £20 in my coat pocket with my phone and somewhere en route managed to lose it, I assume taking my phone out to take a photo. I had a look around but couldn’t find it and just hoped whoever found it enjoyed it. I was annoyed with myself for doing something so daft, but it’s not the difference between eating and not, so just one of those things... then I went to put something in my pocket in my salopets and there was £20 in there -definitely not the original one. I was pleased. I mean obviously it would still have been better if I hadn’t lost the original £30, but finding the other one was nice.

Discovered I’d been being underpaid at work - didn’t pay enough attention when they changed from weekly to monthly and it had mounted up, so that was a nice ‘bonus’ - even though it was mine. I had wondered why it didn’t seem to be stretching so far but I just assumed a mix of price rises and no pay increases!

Such a nice thread!

(Except for a few snarky posts 🙄)

Not quite on the same level, but after the storm last week, l went out in the garden to clean my rabbits' litter trays. There was a fair bit of litter that had blown into the garden. l went round with a binbag picking it up. l found a £20 note! Folded, and very wet, but genuine! Some poor soul must have lost it in the high winds. l had no way of tracing the owner, so l donated £10 each to two local small charities. lt was never mine so l won't miss it, and at least it's doing a bit of good.
Well done, OP! What a nice surprise for Christmas!

What a lovely thread, this has never happened to me but I work in retail banking and it happens quite a lot. Varying amounts but we've had some big ones over the years, just accounts people have popped a sum in and then life has gotten in the way or their local branch closed and they had totally forgotten about. It really brightens my day and gives me some joy if it's one of my customers!
