I was clearing out an old handbag and I found an old bank card for an account I don’t use anymore!! Thought I would check it out...turned out it had over £800 in it!!! OMG!! It’s like a little Christmas bonus from myself!! Yippee!!

I found about £200 in various bags I don't use any more Smile trouble was when I tried to spend it, I was told it was out of date, and my only hope was to go to the bank and see if they would change it, they changed some, but the rest was way past it's buying dateSad

So happy for everyone who's had a lucky find.
Not money related but I found a voucher for afternoon tea and another for a salon treatment that I had hidden in a cupboard so a couple of nice treats for January.

GinisLife · 16/12/2019 07:22

I noticed a £20 payment on my credit card statement to Naked Wines last week. When I logged on to their website there was £340 in there !! Robbers kept £20 when I cancelled it

Sarahb1969 · 16/12/2019 08:19

I was just about to pass on an old clutch bag to a charity shop when DH decided to check the pocket inside. In said pocket was a bracelet that had been my late Grandmother's that I thought lost. So glad he's more careful than me! Always check pockets now!!

Have fun with your unexpected windfall Smile

Couple of years ago I was looking for some handmade Xmas cards in a box of cards I'd made years before, found almost £1000 lol. I was broke at the time too so it was amazing

redsquirrl · 16/12/2019 10:04

@Geekynzmum @Suchan1d10t @Chocolateteabag Thank you all! I will check all my pockets and handbags and pay my pound coins into my account! Assuming they're not all forged of course 😂

Partimers · 16/12/2019 10:11

Thanks everyone.

@Monday55 yes it had, I had to call to find out the balance but they are sending another one.

Years ago I was in a bad way with Wonga payday loans.

Made a claim a while ago was awarded 40 pounds form wonga and forgot all about it.

Recently though I got an email saying I have been awarded nearly 2000 compensation due in January Shock apparently I will only receive about ten percent of this though.

Still a win and all money welcome in January

Sunflowersok · 16/12/2019 10:38

Did Christmas - go on a long weekend away!

Sunflowersok · 16/12/2019 10:38

*sod Christmas!

Sorry for the typo I was excited for you

OhMsBeliever · 16/12/2019 11:05

I found an old Abbey National passbook recently. But have no idea how much is actually in there. Also I think I changed it to a joint account when I married my ex, so he'd be entitled to half (and maybe have to sign for it, but he's moved hundreds of miles away and no idea when he'll bother coming to see the kids nextHmm)

I'll take in to Santander at some point to sort it out.

I did find £40 in a folded bit of paper once. Good job I didn't throw it away without looking!

And at the weekend I found a bar of chocolate in the pocket of a coat I hadn't worn for ages. Grin

ralfeesmum · 16/12/2019 11:20

Wheeeeeeeee!!!!!

lovemenorca · 16/12/2019 11:39

@PocketsForMe

I’m what grounds will you only receive 10% of your compensation? That sounds very suspect

species5618 · 16/12/2019 13:32

Brother has just received 13 THOUSAND from a relative's will. Brother has only seen the relative twice in 23 years.
I'm not jealous ...... honestly.

INeedNewShoes · 16/12/2019 13:34

Now that amount would be life changing for me. No one due to die soon here (gladly, obviously!)

thesunhasgothishatontoday · 16/12/2019 14:43

@lovemenorca I've seen about this in the newspapers it's because the receivers are paying out the claims

Animum2 · 16/12/2019 17:27

@tooyoungat40

Contact BT and they will be able to tell you what to do, there are different registrars who look after companies share registers

PocketsForMe · 16/12/2019 21:20

@lovemenorca as @thesunhasgothishatontoday says it’s due to receivers paying and not wonga themselves

Very disappointing

thesunhasgothishatontoday · 17/12/2019 01:30

@PocketsForMe even 10% is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick! x

PocketsForMe · 17/12/2019 06:36

@thesunhasgothishatontoday definitely and also every bit extra is welcome in January x

tooyoungat40 · 17/12/2019 13:31

Animum2 - thank you!

Bonniegirl435 · 17/12/2019 16:58

Earslaps · 17/12/2019 17:06

DH got some shares as a bonus at work, but they had to be held at least a year. He thought they'd been added to the same account as the previous year's shares. About three years later he was going through his shares accounts, realised he had a year's worth missing. They had quadrupled in value in the previous two years, so we were very grateful for his forgetfulness!

Whizbang · 18/12/2019 20:24

Have you spent it yet OP? It’s lovely to hear a happy tale in these gloomy days. Good for you!

I’ve got a good one... Way back in the mists of time after I graduated I was paying off my student loans for years and years. I was clueless about managing my finances and ever since I had a pay check the student loan company always took their slice so it was all I knew and I just assumed they’d stop taking the payments when I’d paid it all off....big mistake!

My dad eventually took me to task (after I’d managed to get in a mess with credit cards) and we went through my budget together, including ringing Student Loan Company to confirm my outstanding balance....

Turns out I’d finished paying it off 18 months before!!! And they still kept taking the payments!! So cautionary tale for those repaying Student Loans...it’s not enough to just pay it off, you also need to confirm it with them and CANCEL THE DIRECT DEBIT otherwise the sneaky feckers just keep on taking it!!

I’m ashamed looking back at what a basket case I was financially that I didn’t even notice, particularly as I was in debt and struggling. But at the time I was just thrilled! Not only had I paid it off, but I had overpaid by £1800. I repeat £1800!!!! They paid it back without quibble and it was just amazing. It was like I’d secretly set up a savings account for myself which I then used to dig myself out of a hole.

They’re still sneaky sods...they’d probably still be taking it now if it wasn’t for my lovely dad’s good sense, bless him. We lost him last year and I still miss him every day, I was very lucky to have him.

Parttimers · 18/12/2019 20:28

@Whizbang I have spent about 120 (haircut and a new jumper) I have put 500 into savings and I have the rest set aside for car tyres!! God, I am so boring and practical!
