This is fantastic! Unfortunately I'm poor so I know where every penny is so have never experienced a windfall like this. 😩😆

Thefaceofboe · 14/12/2019 12:59

That’s amazing. My question is, how do you forget you have £800 🤣

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 14/12/2019 13:00

I'm going to tidy up some drawers now!

chocolicious · 14/12/2019 13:05

How do people forget about a bank account with money in it?

This.

I get excited if I find a couple of pound coins loose in the bottom of my handbag.

1forAll74 · 14/12/2019 13:15

No luck for me, as I just found 4 tissues, one biro pen, and a clothes peg in an abandoned black handbag. !

Yetanotherwinter · 14/12/2019 13:22

You clearly have too much money if you forgot it was there! Enjoy it, or maybe enjoy donating it to a well deserving charity.

DarkDarkNight · 14/12/2019 13:24

Amazing, I thought I was lucky when I found £10 in an old coat pocket.

Enjoy.

Theredjellybean · 14/12/2019 13:43

what a lovely thread....enjoy it all

INeedNewShoes · 14/12/2019 13:45

That's fab OP!

I recently got a refund for my remaining Oyster card balance of £27. That was my little financial win of the month 😁

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 14/12/2019 13:47

Inspired by this I have checked every handbag I own and have found the grand sum of £21.78!!!Grin

Gretafamily · 14/12/2019 13:48

Awww great news especially this time of year :) x

recreationalcalpol · 14/12/2019 13:56

This happened to my DH last week. He found a foreign bank account where all his post tour money was being paid after he came back from Afghanistan. He had forgotten about it for 8 years. €2400 in there!

AmIthechristmasfairy · 14/12/2019 14:09

That's a lovely surprise. Enjoy spending it

Animum2 · 14/12/2019 14:18

@dontsweatthelittlestuff

I work for a share dealing company, but I would say that the shares would still be valid even though they changed name, you may of been sent new certificates with the new name on (sometimes that happpens) don't take my word for it though!

Orangecake123 · 14/12/2019 14:24

That's a lovely surprise!

I was also happy to discover I had £6.75 in an old account I haven't used used 2015.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 14/12/2019 14:30

Animum Thanks. When I have a bit of spare time in the new year I will pop into a branch and see if they can give me an address to write to.

I know people think it is strange that these things get forgotten about but the shares were a freebie when abbey became a plc rather than just a building society. And the saving account has the last transaction dated jan 2001. A lot has happened in the last 19 years. I have bought up my family, moved several times, changed banks several times, bought and cashed in various shares. So sometimes things slip through the gaps.

x2boys · 14/12/2019 14:49

I'm not sure i could forget about an account with money in! Enjoy spending it, I once found a tenner in a pocket of an old pair of jean,s and then half an hour later another tenner in a plastic pouch in the meter cupboard ,i don't think the second tenner was mine I think it was the bloke ,s that I bought the flat off ,it was a couple of days before payday though so I was delighted.

Yetanotherwinter · 14/12/2019 15:14

@recreationalcalpol I’m especially pleased for you and your hubby. Our armed forces do an amazing job. Enjoy the money and him being home safe. 💐

EmmiJay · 14/12/2019 15:20

And to think I did a pelvic thrust when I found a ten pound note randomly in my tool drawer on Wednesday 🤣 Spend spend spend OP!

why does someone always suggest donating it to charity, really can't someone just enjoy the windfall without all the virtue signalling

Jealousy.

NameChangeNugget · 14/12/2019 15:36

Happy Christmas OP Xmas Wink

Mmmmdanone · 14/12/2019 15:39

I got a letter today saying I was due £1300 from an old investment that I'd cashed in years ago! Just had an expensive roof repair and was dreading New Year credit card bill so this is amazing!

Fatasfooook · 14/12/2019 15:40

How rich must you’ve to forget about £800!

Ginkypig · 14/12/2019 16:11

Not quite the same but I get my elderly neighbour a few bits of shopping every week and she gives me the money for it when I drop it round to her so rather than the hassle of putting sometimes just £2 or 3 back in the bank Iv just been whatever she gives me in a little box.

Iv dipped into it a couple of times for the odd takeaway or bus fares but generally just left it alone, anyway I counted it last week and it had about £600 in it! I'm actually a bit shocked, I know very little bit adds up but it just feels like a stark example of that.
