Lovely.

I remember at one of my lowest points finding a £20 note in an old handbag. My heart almost burst with joy.

Congratulations, OP and happy Christmas.

How do people forget about a bank account with money in it?

This has reminded me to google if old pound coins can still be taken into banks as that's what I keep finding in coat pockets and handbags! Apparently in July you still could so hopefully by the time I get round to it I still can...

That’s brilliant. It’s the opposite of realising you’ve forgotten to cancel an auto renew on a gym membership for 3 years (which I am still beating myself up about. It was a council gym and on skimming my statements thought it was council tax direct debit. So so stupid. Enjoy treating yourself. Couldn’t be a better time of year to make such a great discovery Smile

@Crinkle77 @Livebythecoast
I moved a few years ago and switched banks at the same time due to new job payment method. I think the 800 is actually pay from an old employer that I hadn’t accounted for. 🤷‍♀️🤣

@TipseyTorvey I will be getting my hair done on Tuesday so I’ll pay for that first 👍

That happened to me once but unfortunately the account was in joint names with my ex husband, even though it was my salary account. Cutting a long story short, I had to share it with him, at a time when I was utterly utterly skint because he wouldn't pay his maintenance. That was a proper shitter I can tell you.
Enjoy it OP, it's a windfall - fun money.

A few weeks ago I was clearing out an old file of paperwork and found an old abbey national share certificate and pass book. With a few hundred pound in it. Abbey have been gone for years so I need to take the lot into a branch of Santander and see if the shares and cash still exist and if so how I get it.

I think it's pretty easy to forget about an account if it's not in constant use. My DH found a savings account of mine, I think it was an old ISA, I had no recall of ever opening it but it had quite a lot in it, like 5 figures quite a lot. I'd obviously opened it with the intention of not taking anything out for quite a while, then we moved country and so didn't get any correspondence about it.

@heath48 too funny!! Enjoy!!

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar that must’ve been nice to find!! Yes I agree it easy to forget accounts when you have multiple and/or when you move about so much with work etc.

That's funny! This morning I was clearing out one of my cupboard and found 14 x £50 notes! I record keeping those notes for birthday gifts, I must have forgotten about it!! Great news for me but worry about my memory!!!

That's great - I had a similar thing once where I rediscovered an account I'd totally forgotten existed that had been set up for me when I was younger and it had a similar amount in it - enjoy!
