To think Die Hard is NOT a Christmas film?

Just that, really. It’ s not a Christmas film. Just because it’s set at Christmas does not not make it so.
My husband disagrees with me , counter arguing that in that case, It’s A Wonderful Life isn’t a Christmas film( it most certainly is)!

Yes!!

GrumpyHoonMain · 16/11/2019 11:11

Yabvu. It’s most definitely a Christmas film.

Kyvia · 16/11/2019 11:12

YABU

Die Hard is a Christmas film.

DP & my tradition (no-kids Xmas day) is Die Hard followed by Gremlins Smile

TheKrakening3 · 16/11/2019 11:16

Die Hard is not a Christmas film. It is The Christmas film.

MyfanwyMontez · 16/11/2019 11:16

But why? It’s not like it gives you a fuzzy, festive feeling. I do like Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber though.

You are wrong OP, although Die Hard 2 is a better Christmas film.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 16/11/2019 11:17

Not only is it a Christmas film, it is the best Chrisrmas film ever.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/11/2019 11:18

It most certainly is.

Although I feel the same about East 17 "Stay." NOT a Christmas song.

Spudina · 16/11/2019 11:18

Sorry OP, definitely a Christmas film!!

NewYoiker · 16/11/2019 11:19

Incorrect! It takes place at Christmas therefore it is a Christmas film :)

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 16/11/2019 11:19

YABVU.

nordstrom · 16/11/2019 11:19

Are you married to Jake Peralta?

WeeDangerousSpike · 16/11/2019 11:19

Of course it's a Christmas film. There's Christmas music, and even a santa hat.

I've never heard of, never mind seen, it's a wonderful life so can't comment on that.

Littlebelina · 16/11/2019 11:22

Yabu. Definitely a Xmas film. As is Gremlins

Singlebutmarried · 16/11/2019 11:24

Totally Christmassy

FadingStar · 16/11/2019 11:24

Completely agree. Setting it at a Christmas party does not make it a Christmas film. It could be set at any time of year. A Christmas film has to have Christmas as a key part of the story.

Deedoubleyou · 16/11/2019 11:25

@WeeDangerousSpike

You have never heard of It's A Wonderful Life? Omg you have got to watch it this Xmas!

wishing4sun · 16/11/2019 11:25

I have this argument every year, it's not a Xmas film a good film but but not a Xmas one.

steff13 · 16/11/2019 11:26

Of course it is.

Inliverpool1 · 16/11/2019 11:27

It absolutely is not. Good film though don’t make em like that any more

MrsMozartMkII · 16/11/2019 11:27

It's definitely a Christmas film.

MyfanwyMontez · 16/11/2019 11:28

@nordstrom
Ha, ha - I think I may be 🙂.

I just don’t get it. The shooting , violence doesn’t exactly exude Christmas vibes to me. I can wear a Santa hat and play Christmas tunes in the height of Summer, doesn’t make it Christmas though does it?

steff13 · 16/11/2019 11:28

What criteria does a movie have to meet in order for it to be considered a Christmas movie?

LaurieMarlow · 16/11/2019 11:29

Can we have a stab at criteria for a ‘Christmas film’?

It would be good to arrive at a universally agreed definition.
