To think Die Hard is NOT a Christmas film?

Just that, really. It’ s not a Christmas film. Just because it’s set at Christmas does not not make it so.
My husband disagrees with me , counter arguing that in that case, It’s A Wonderful Life isn’t a Christmas film( it most certainly is)!

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/11/2019 21:17

Especially when I'm sipping baileys and warbling "GloooooOoOOOOoooOOOooooooria... Hosanna in Excelsis!" while Beth plays the piano.

FadingStar · 16/11/2019 21:20

The first twenty minutes of Little Women is Christmassy...that's it!

Hisdoeherbuck · 16/11/2019 21:21

Yes it is, I bet OP also thinks pineapple is acceptable on pizza.

FadingStar · 16/11/2019 21:21

I only like the Liz Taylor version.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/11/2019 21:23

Not true.

Their dad returns home at Christmas.

Heyduggeefordays · 16/11/2019 21:26

It is the best Xmas film there is OP! Traditionally enjoyed in my household on Xmas Eve while wrapping the presents.

Yippykaya motherfuckers!

PseudoBadger · 16/11/2019 21:27

I’m watching it now. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Candymay · 16/11/2019 21:41

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles ah my youngest is 5 so maybe not for us this year then!

ThePolishWombat · 16/11/2019 21:47

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook I won’t lie...watching a shirtless, sweaty, bloodied Bruce Willis pick broken glass out of his bare feet is the highlight of my Christmas Eve Grin

elQuintoConyo · 16/11/2019 22:07

THE Christmas film. THE

I also watch Meet Me in St Louis at Christmas, too. And Gremlins.

Love Actually can get the shite. It's a Wonderful Life has aged badly.

elQuintoConyo · 16/11/2019 22:08

BTW, has anyone else noticed Brucey's vest change colour halfway through the film? From white to brown...

MyfanwyMontez · 16/11/2019 22:38

Well , it seems like I’m in the minority here. But I’ve just watched Klaus on Netflix and it’s lovely, family friendly and feel good.

GonnaBeMaayy · 16/11/2019 22:58

Oooh I want to watch Klaus. Looking forward to it

PermanentTemporary · 16/11/2019 23:00

Totally a Christmas film.

Another great Christmas film: The Guns of Navarone. And of course, Where Eagles Dare.

It's not about snow. It's about peace to all men of goodwill. And massive explosions to everyone else.

MorganKitten · 16/11/2019 23:03

Yes it is

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/11/2019 23:10

BTW, has anyone else noticed Brucey's vest change colour halfway through the film? From white to brown

Yes! I think it's supposed to be dirty? But then all of a sudden it's clean and white again. :o

Collision · 16/11/2019 23:11

It’s a bloody awesome Christmas film.

You are very unreasonable.

MyfanwyMontez · 16/11/2019 23:16

And @Hisdoeherbuck, I don’t like pineapple on pizza , I prefer a bit of chilli.

OK there are Christmas Movies which are movies about Christmas, set at Christmas with a Christmas message which one watches at Christmas and only at Christmas such as:

Holiday Inn
Miracle on 34th Street
It’s a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Story
Elf
Love Actually

Then we have movies with a Christmas setting or a partly Christmas setting but which are NOT Christmas Movies and can be viewed and enjoyed at any time of year but are especially enjoyable at Christmas:

Die Hard
Little Women
Gremlins
Bad Santa
Home Alone

Then there are movies with absolutely no fucking connection to Christmas whatsoever and can be enjoyed at anytime but for reasons known only to broadcasters and my Mum are actually required viewing (as in it’s the law) at Christmas such as:

Gone With the Wind
Mary Poppins
The Sound of Music
Where Eagles Dare
The Great Escape
The Guns of Navarone

malfoylovespotter · 17/11/2019 00:06

DH makes me watch Die Hard every single Christmas. We know it wasn't made as a Christmas film but it has become one !

Alan Rickman 😍

Freshprincess · 17/11/2019 00:19

It's on Xmas eve
It's got Father Christmas in it (sort of)
There's Christmas songs
Peace and goodwill to all (except terrorists and journalists)
All the family are reunited at Christmas.

You can't get more Christmas

And for bonus points, you've got at his peak Bruce Willis.

ultrablue · 17/11/2019 00:21

**Greatorb

You are wrong OP, although Die Hard 2 is a better Christmas film.**

You are so right Greatorb Christmas doesn't start until Die Hard 2 is shown

KatherineJaneway · 17/11/2019 08:08

If people asked how I am and I'm feeling crap, I sometimes wish I could answer 'Pretty unafuckingpreciated Al'

I recently said to DH that as much as part of me wants to re-watch Moonlighting, I probably never will as I don't want to risk it not ageing well.

I rewatch the pilot sometimes.

"Ball of fluff! You are calling ME a ball of FLUFF!"

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 17/11/2019 14:20

@PermanentTemporary It's about peace to all men of goodwill. And massive explosions to everyone else.

GrinGrinGrin

Very well sorted @QuantumEntanglement

I give up! Going to watch Die hard this xmas jeeszs!!
