To think Die Hard is NOT a Christmas film?

Just that, really. It’ s not a Christmas film. Just because it’s set at Christmas does not not make it so.
My husband disagrees with me , counter arguing that in that case, It’s A Wonderful Life isn’t a Christmas film( it most certainly is)!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned yet that Bruce Willis himself has said it's NOT a Christmas film!

However, I disagree. It's my favourite Christmas film and I watch it every year

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/11/2019 12:33

It's a great film, Christmassy or not (but I think it is) and I agree with Dylanpickle about its greatness... Grin

unlike... that horrible song, "Fairytale in New York" which is overplayed and over-enthused over by people trying to convince themselves it's Christmassy (and it isn't, it's just shit).

Cruddles · 16/11/2019 12:34

Die Hard much much better than It's A Yawn Inducing Life.

Bad Santa is my favourite Christmas film

iklboo · 16/11/2019 12:43

I keep toying with the idea of having a Die Hard themed Christmas Grin

(I don't really but now I think about it.....)

sweeneytoddsrazor · 16/11/2019 12:44

Top xmas films
Die Hard/DH2
Santa claus the movie ( with Dudley Moore as the best elf ever)
Miracle on 34th St.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 16/11/2019 12:53

Totally unreasonable.

Die Hard is one of the only two Christmas films worth watching. The other being Gremlins.

SerendipityJane · 16/11/2019 12:57

The shooting , violence doesn’t exactly exude Christmas vibes to me.

Whereas in the original, Herod killing all the first born male babies gets you in the mood for charades ?

PaddingtonBrown · 16/11/2019 12:57

DH and I have this argument every time Die Hard gets mentioned. It is most definitely NOT an Xmas film.

Thescrewinthetuna · 16/11/2019 12:59

It is the greatest Christmas story ever told.

Yes!^^

PineappleDanish · 16/11/2019 13:11

It’s not like it gives you a fuzzy, festive feeling

And that is a GOOD THING. Anything with "Christmas" in the title is usually schmaltzy shite and makes me nauseous rather than fuzzy.

Give me Bruce in his vest and Alan hamming it up every time. Yippee ki yay, motherfucker.

MisterT373 · 16/11/2019 13:16

The original Lethal Weapon falls into the same category as Die Hard - it's set around Christmas but could have been at any time of year.

HenSolo · 16/11/2019 13:19

What! Madness!

He breaks Karl’s neck then puts him in a Christmas hat! V Christmas!

I love that film so much

steff13 · 16/11/2019 13:31

He gets his wife and family back, and saves (almost) everyone else. What's more warm and fuzzy than that?!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/11/2019 13:43

Yes, YES, steff13! And he empowers the chauffeur, Argyle to take on the computer geek with a well-aimed punch - and Sgt Al Powell the police officer to regain his confidence with firearms so he can do his duty again safe in the knowledge that he will not shoot somebody by mistake again... it's really eye-misty stuff. Halloween Grin

iklboo · 16/11/2019 13:45

BTW do NOT read the book it's based on. Totally different and a snooze fest.

StreetwiseHercules · 16/11/2019 13:47

The mental gymnastics required to come to the conclusion that Die Hard isn’t a Christmas film are just something I will never understand. I don’t know why people do it.

5LeafClover · 16/11/2019 13:54

It's the best Christmas film.

So good that you can watch it at any time of year but absolutely best at Christmas.

QueenOfOversharing · 16/11/2019 13:56

This is my Christmas jumper & settles any argument.

To think Die Hard is NOT a Christmas film?
LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/11/2019 13:59

WHERE did you get that, QueenOfOversharing? ShockEnvy

Figgygal · 16/11/2019 14:01

Of course it is the people who wrote and directed it said it was themselves in an interview in empire magazine

Bruce Willis I believe has come out and said that it isn't but I'm ignoring that

Greatorb · 16/11/2019 14:02

Don't forget that Lethal Weapon is also a good Christmas movie.

ThePolishWombat · 16/11/2019 14:06

It most definitely is a Christmas film.
It’s a win win for everyone....DH gets to be a teenage boy again and get all excited about explosions and fight scenes, while I drool over Bruce Willis with cheap, vulgar appreciation Grin

RightYesButNo · 16/11/2019 14:14

If you don’t think barefoot Bruce Willis at his peak defeating 80’s German terrorists played by British actors with UNBELIEVABLE New Wave hairstyles (does the hair get billing in the credits? it should) is the true meaning of Christmas, then you’re probably not a friend of mine. Hairwise, it’s like... “our Uncle Jim what is losing a bit on top” (that’s more than a bit, mum Hmm) vs fucking Flock of Seagulls.

Totally agree, @Greatorb.

SilverySurfer · 16/11/2019 14:16

Alan Rickman is brilliant as Hans Gruber - it's great for any time, including christmas.

HouseworkAvoider10 · 16/11/2019 14:18

oh, christ.
go home and lie down, OP.

this is THE xmas film.
