To think Die Hard is NOT a Christmas film?

Just that, really. It’ s not a Christmas film. Just because it’s set at Christmas does not not make it so.
My husband disagrees with me , counter arguing that in that case, It’s A Wonderful Life isn’t a Christmas film( it most certainly is)!

BlokeNumber9 · 16/11/2019 16:23

If it's the one with Alan Rickman then it's a film for all seasons.
And that Bonnie Bedelia [swoons].

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/11/2019 16:24

Exactly @11TheHive121!!!

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/11/2019 16:34

"If not too violent I’ll look out for them for the children. We do love anything Christmas related!"

@Candymay, I hate to break it but yep they are very violent and lots of bad language too Winkhow old are your DC? We have an annual family Christmas tradition of watching Die Hard with a teapot and mince pies/Christmas cake but mine are teens/adults!

JAPAB · 16/11/2019 16:34

Bad Santa is the chrístmas movie for grown ups though.

I know it's just a comedy and not the sort of thing to take too seriously, but I thought BBT gave a great performance in that film. Completely nailed a character whose "soul is dog shit. Every single fucking thing about you is ugly".

Anyway, to me a Christmas movie suggests something that is family-friendly. Don't think a man being shot in the head and his brains splattering the wall qualifies.

bluecitygirl · 16/11/2019 16:37

It is most definately a christmas film.

mbosnz · 16/11/2019 16:39

Christmas Film. It always kicks off our Christmas film season. . .usually ends it too!

Josette77 · 16/11/2019 16:50

It's the best Christmas film!!! Dh and I save it for Christmas Eve.

Pierrettelasanguinaire · 16/11/2019 16:52

if Die Hard is a Christmas film, then Bridget Jones Diary (set at one Christmas then another, with a little inbetweeny bit) would be, too

No, it wouldn't. But BJD would be greatly improved by machine guns.

Honeyroar · 16/11/2019 16:56

I'm on the fence! It's a good film for Xmas, but it's not so full of Xmas that you can't watch it at other times of the year.

Willow2017 · 16/11/2019 16:56

If not too violent I’ll look out for them for the children. We do love anything Christmas related!

The clue is in the title!
Yes it's violent it's a fight against terrorists!

How old are your Kids?

Anyway, to me a Christmas movie suggests something that is family-friendly.
Why should 'families with small kids' get all the Xmas films? Adults are entitled to a good film at Xmas too😁 The violence doesn't negate all the life changing things the various characters experience. They all come out the better for John being there that Xmas. (Well almost all)
And my Xmas is improved by Bruce being a hero and Alan just being there😚

BreadSauceHmm · 16/11/2019 17:00

YABVU. It's one of the best ever. Especially the "Ho, ho, ho" bit Grin.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/11/2019 17:07

Likethebattle and QueenOfOversharing, I have bought this - in black. We're supposed to wear Christmas jumpers to the do this year... I will be the belle of the ball...

Thank you both! Grin

Willow2017 · 16/11/2019 17:30

FadingStar · 16/11/2019 17:32

Hell yes.
Bad guys die/lose.
Hero wins the fight, his family,
Hero inspired others to regain thier confidence and be hero's too.
Reporter gets punched in face.
It's a feel good movie😀
Win win win.

QueenOfOversharing · 16/11/2019 17:35

Trewser · 16/11/2019 17:41

I can't be bothered to read the whole thread.

It's the best Christmas film ever.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/11/2019 18:04

Xmas films:

Home alone
Love actually
Anything jesus related

Not xmas films

Die Hard
BatMan
Gremlins

And anything vengeance, violence focused.

I recently said to DH that as much as part of me wants to re-watch Moonlighting, I probably never will as I don't want to risk it not ageing well.

With you on this.

I made the mistake of watching an episode of the A-Team a few years back. Completely ruined my childhood.

Willow2017 · 16/11/2019 18:14

Xmas films:
Home alone
Yes cos Xmas is all about child neglect and putting them in harms way by useless parents.
