John Lewis 2019 Christmas advert- hit or miss?

It's just been released and I think they've caught the mood just right after last year's odd collaboration with Elton. Cute, not ostentatious, Christmassy and a subtle intro to Waitrose.

AIBU to think it's a hit?

Thank you @CrapeDiem ! I thought it was some sort of device to tone down his flames 😭

Glad I an not the only one.

Cute enough though,

Stooshie8 · 14/11/2019 22:54

Too long imv -could have stopped after the ice incident.

Flymetothetoon · 14/11/2019 23:23

Love it but my absolute favourite Christmas ad of all time was the Mog one but can't remember who that was for? ( Mog the cat wrecking the house and being given an egg at the end)

Trumpton · 15/11/2019 01:34

My all time favourite from 1972 . Just look at the size of the Quality Street ! The equivalent cost today would be £26 !
WOOLWORTHS 1972

BusySittingDown · 15/11/2019 06:14

I liked it! Last year's was disappointing- it was an advert for Elton John!!!

BusySittingDown · 15/11/2019 06:18

Bloody hell! That Woolworths ad!!!

Polaroid Camera for £13.99 Shock.

BusySittingDown · 15/11/2019 06:19

I think that's why woolies went bust though - I only ever remember going in there at Christmas. I don't know anyone who used to shop in there year round. Sad

Tvstar · 15/11/2019 06:25

Too long, to be clichéd and such an unappealing child!

littlebillie · 15/11/2019 06:34

Love the Argos one - brilliant

Littlemeadow123 · 15/11/2019 06:39

If you don't like the advert that's fine, but can you please refrain from commenting negatively on a ten year old girl's appearance.

littlebillie · 15/11/2019 06:41

Love the Argos one, Sainsbury's is the best!

MillStone · 15/11/2019 06:56

It's very similar in concept to the far more charming Ernst Christmas ad from a couple years ago.

londonrach · 15/11/2019 07:11

Love it x

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 15/11/2019 07:12

Its cute, but not loving it.

For some reason JL adverts take time to grow on me.

Lilyflower1 · 15/11/2019 07:15

I watched it on the laptop last night and DH looked over my shoulder and said, ‘ Why are Waitrose using Greta Thunberg in their ad?’ I am not going to be able to forget that now.

As for the ad. It was great . Once.

Mooserp · 15/11/2019 07:28

I liked The Long Wait but all the ones since have seemed very similar (except the Elton ad).

ladyvimes · 15/11/2019 07:39

Meh. It was ok. Didn’t really get the ending.
Nothing compared to the little boy waiting to give his present to his parents. That one I loved!

geekone · 15/11/2019 07:44

I really like it, it is cute and funny.

Sainsbury’s is the one for me though, it made me cry 😭

LaurieMarlow · 15/11/2019 07:47

It’s ok. I’m bored of the style. The Long Wait was amazing, but diminishing returns since then.

Eyre89 · 15/11/2019 08:46

I felt a bit meh. I like bastille but did not like it on this advert. I found it jarring with the advert

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/11/2019 09:01

I've been looking at old ads now - can't believe the number of ones for sherry :). Also drooling over the old chocolate ones. I'd enjoy some from the 70s and 80s - I bet they are nicer than these days. Also, Old Spice :)

SweetMarmalade · 15/11/2019 10:12

Love it & I now own my own Edgar Blush

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/11/2019 10:16

I remain so angry that I missed out on a Mog.

Tvstar · 15/11/2019 10:17

My favourite is the snowman journey one, I also like the long wait.
I don't understand the Mog one, why he is hailed as a hero whe he was in fact the one that caused the fire

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/11/2019 10:24

Mog is a she :). I think you'd have to read the books to understand that. Start with 'Mog's Bad Thing'.
