John Lewis 2019 Christmas advert- hit or miss?

It's just been released and I think they've caught the mood just right after last year's odd collaboration with Elton. Cute, not ostentatious, Christmassy and a subtle intro to Waitrose.

AIBU to think it's a hit?

Not a fan at all. My favourite is still ‘The Long Wait’ followed by ‘The man on the moon.’ The Sainsbury’s Christmas one this year is quite good.

Petrichor11 · 14/11/2019 19:30

I like it but it feels like it’s mostly about creating lots of excitable Edgar merchandise

My favourite was the Man in the Moon

NoSauce · 14/11/2019 19:36

Boring.

NumbersStation · 14/11/2019 19:36

A bit moist eyed here.

Only because my old dog was kind of like it. Looked adorable, created mayhem wherever she went.

I think it is lovely.

But I’m an old weeping fool.

hazeyjane · 14/11/2019 19:56

I liked it.
It made me laugh rather than tearful which was nice.
@Louloubelle78, I felt exactly the same way, it reminded me of my ds who has a genetic condition and is in many ways a Master of Ultimate Chaos, but also brings so many good things to the party.

rslsys · 14/11/2019 20:37

If the John Lewis/Waitrose Christmas Pudding is intended to feed all the people round the table, it must come from the same stable as the MN Chicken . .

minesagin37 · 14/11/2019 21:01

My 14 year old came running in to show me. We loved it. Love the singer too. He's a hottie.

zemblanity · 14/11/2019 21:08

I can't believe people cry at an advert.Confused

Though today I learnt that you're not allowed to say you're not a fan of the JL Christmas advert on Twitter. People take it REALLY personally and start firing insults at you.

The world is very strange these days.

QueenofmyPrinces · 14/11/2019 21:10

I can't believe people cry at an advert...,

Have you not watched JL’s Monty the Penguin advert?????

I’m shocked that anyone can get through that without a little tear Grin

zemblanity · 14/11/2019 21:11

I vaguely remember that one, I've never cried at an advert though, because it's just an advert.

Rosehip10 · 14/11/2019 21:15

Poor

Tobebythesea · 14/11/2019 21:20

My favourite will always be ‘The Long Wait’ but I liked this one. My 3 year old loved it and has now watched it 10 times in a row.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 14/11/2019 21:22

I love it. I also loved Elton's. The only one i didn't like was man in the moon.

Corneliawildthing · 14/11/2019 21:29

How is that going to persuade me to shop at John Lewis? Could just about watched it if it had been much shorter, but it just seemed to go on and on and on. Didn't like the vocals either.

EleanorReally · 14/11/2019 21:32

love it, tears came

MitziK · 14/11/2019 21:58

I hated that bloody Argo ad - the drumkit they are pretending to use is a piece of utter shit. The girl, who is undoubtedly an extremely talented drummer, is not taking and has never taken lessons on a lump of crap like that.

It's like a kid pretending to play like Segovia with the Lexibook Disney Princess 21 inch My First Guitar.

Mummyme1987 · 14/11/2019 22:02

Hated it. Still love that love is a gift ad made by that man for next to nothing about the Walkman tapes. That was the best ad I’ve ever seen. JL needs that guy for their ads.

Youngatheart00 · 14/11/2019 22:03

I think it’s lovely, another winner.

Ididit2019 · 14/11/2019 22:07

Love it!

Aragog · 14/11/2019 22:07

I like it. It's very cute and quite heart warming. Better than many I've seen this year that's for sure.

Teen dd loves it and loves the little dragon. She's a softie!

BarbaraFromOopNorth · 14/11/2019 22:10

I like it.

My favourite ad was the woodland animals on the trampoline though. I am a bit obsessed with woodland and animals though.

marshmellowed · 14/11/2019 22:10

Weak ‘storyline’ and too dragged out to a mediocre ending
The dragons eyes are too close together
My dc liked it but weren’t overly enthusiastic
There are better Xmas adverts this year. I think we now expect too much of JL in their defence and personally that made me hyper critical

Wilberforce1 · 14/11/2019 22:18

I really like it and so did the kids, much better than last years. I do like the Ikea one as well!

ozymandiusking · 14/11/2019 22:19

It doesn't do much for me I'm afraid. It's far too long, and doesn't seem
Christmassy at all.

fridgegrazer · 14/11/2019 22:25

Well I think it's a disgrace! Wink Grin
