It's just been released and I think they've caught the mood just right after last year's odd collaboration with Elton. Cute, not ostentatious, Christmassy and a subtle intro to Waitrose.

AIBU to think it's a hit?

Naff. And why is the baker putting a cooked loaf in the oven?

YouFellAsleeep · 14/11/2019 10:37

I like it. I didn’t find it weepy though! My favourites are still the 2011 one and the penguin one.

Littlemeadow123 · 14/11/2019 10:38

@PurpleTreeFrog

It was trying to say that we are all unique and have different talents and that there is a place for everyone.

In this case it was a dragon who was trying to find his place in the world, especially at xmas when he kept setting things on fire. He was different from everyone else and it was this difference that kept getting him into trouble and being misunderstood. Plent of real life humans feel like this about what makes them different. Anyway, at the end, the little dragon finds what he is good at - cooking stuff. He impresses the rest of the villagers with his ability and therefore finds his place in his village.

MoltoAgitato · 14/11/2019 10:38

The song’s crap too, and the acting is hammy.

Anotheruser02 · 14/11/2019 10:39

So cute. I might get ds the pj's now!

Wallabyone · 14/11/2019 10:41

Thank you @CrapeDiem ! I thought it was some sort of device to tone down his flames 😭

WaterSheep · 14/11/2019 10:44

My favourite ad of all time is sainsbury's 2014 the soilder one. Jim and otto. Great message about peace and sharing.

I have to agree. This was beautifully done, and nothing has come close since.

Although I can't believe it was 2014, how time flies. Shock

Enko · 14/11/2019 10:51

Didn't do much for me but as an x JohnLewis partner (waitrose side) I was happy to see it was both Jl and Waitrose.

Sparklingbrook · 14/11/2019 10:53

The problem with Christmas ads is that they are far too long. You watch it all through once and that’s all you need really. But then it’s on over and over again. You only really need to see it the first time.
But then they start showing a short version which is a bit of a relief.

starrynight19 · 14/11/2019 10:54

Absolutely love it , Edgar is gorgeous. My dd said how can it make you happy and sad at the same time Smile

Paddington68 · 14/11/2019 10:55

If only the pyjamas came in adult sizes.

Deadringer · 14/11/2019 10:56

Did I miss something? What did she give him that made him able to control his fire at the end? I'm embarrassed to say I dont understand the point!

Loveislandaddict · 14/11/2019 11:06

Just watched the Argos one. It started off ok, then I felt dragged a little, and then I liked the bit with the girl. However, it annoyed me also, because he wasn’t drumming along with the music on the tv- the two were out of sync.

recrudesence · 14/11/2019 11:09

@dementedma

I came on to ask exactly that. It seems that the gift was the pudding - something he is actually allowed to set fire to. Long term, I think some sort of fire inhibitor would have been more useful.

ToTheRegimentIWishIWasThere · 14/11/2019 11:38

Awww I loved it.

Xenia · 14/11/2019 11:51

It is lovely and a very sweet little girl. I can see why they picked her.

MrsandMrsonedaysoon · 14/11/2019 11:56

I loved it. I always love to see what John Lewis come out with every year and last couple years I havnt been amazed by them but this year definitely was the one.

Whattodoabout · 14/11/2019 12:02

Not a fan and feeling a bit cynical about Edgar being used as a marketing ploy as they have done in previous years with Monty and Moz.

Preferred last years.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 14/11/2019 12:05

Loved it!

Loveislandaddict · 14/11/2019 12:06

Wonder why they chose the name Edgar?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/11/2019 12:06

It's good. But nothing beats Sainsbury's Mog 2015.

Saucery · 14/11/2019 12:06

A long term fire inhibitor is the fact he’s allowed to use a bit of fire every so often. Looks like he has always been expected to bottle it up, so he can’t control it properly and it happens at inopportune moments.
If he has a task involving fire he can do then he can manage it much better.
❤️❤️
