I know I have been glutinous but hear me out. I did a online shop, had it delivered today and got a 6 pack of Skips crisps for free. I have not had Skips crisps in many many years and was delighted to receive them. On a scale of 1 to 10 how terrible am I, to have ate all 6!?!!! It helps I was watching tv...! They really did melt in my mouth and tasted the same as I remember them.

Nothing. The ingredients have all changed in my childhood favourites, everything is smaller and nothing is as good Sad

MsChatterbox · 28/10/2019 01:11

Kinder surprise egg. Mostly any sweet. Don't have a sweet often but sometimes I randomly buy one from the shop and really enjoy it!

Tolleshunt · 28/10/2019 01:11

Sherbet dip dab. Exactly the same, down to the lurid and weirdly lacking in taste yet still delicious lolly. It was ace.

sam221 · 28/10/2019 01:15

@Sparklfairy I actually do understand what you mean, which is why I was so surprised that the Skips tasted the same.
Odd really how some foods take us right back to our childhood, I remember occasionally buying them after school, taking them home and eating one crisp at a time, by nibbling them to make them last longer!

@sam221 I felt really sorry for my DM recently. As a child she used to love those liquorice sticks you could get from old fashioned sweet shops. Then she found them in the cash and carry about 15 years ago and we just to have them as kids and she was delighted they tasted the same.

She bought a box a few weeks ago and was so disappointed. The texture, flavour, thickness, everything was a shadow of what it was. Her face was Sad

I think people will pay for nostalgia but companies are all about keeping costs low and reducing quality.

sam221 · 28/10/2019 01:49

It's a real shame when companies change the loved recipes of our favourites, I actively avoid all Cadburys chocolates now because they do taste significantly worse.

Nestle animal bars and angel delight (chocolate and butterscotch), bought both this week and was in my bloody element. I even made raspberries in jelly the other day. I've been unwell recently and always crave nostalgic foods when ill- the heart wants what it wants Grin

sam221 · 28/10/2019 02:00

@dontgobaconmyheart Hope you feel better soon and why not indulge!!!

Dairy Lea triangles. Different from those available in the 60s but just as plastic and vile and I really enjoyed them when I inadvertently bought some a few weeks ago!

NorthEndGal · 28/10/2019 03:10

I still bake pulla with the same recipe my grandmother, and her mother, used.
It's the best

sam221 · 28/10/2019 03:25

Dairy Lea - how I wanted them so badly when I was young, my parents rarely would allow it-they were on the healthy track long before it was common place. I really liked the plasticy taste and would have it neat.

I think on my next shop I may just order some of these tasty goods, lets see so far on my list: Dairy Lea, Kinder Egg and Angel Delight.
I may just have to use the treadmill this week!!!

Sherbet lemons, now a permanent fixture in my car. My teeth!

NurseButtercup · 28/10/2019 05:30

Cornflake tart and custard it was on the menu at a dessert shop I went to recently. It was sickly sweet yet soooo delicious and I wanted to lick the bowl (I never ever do this).

Loopytiles · 28/10/2019 05:42

Skips and Wotsits are still good!

Newbie1999 · 28/10/2019 05:58

ARCTIC ROLL

Redlioness123 · 28/10/2019 13:01

I still buy Space Raiders (salt and vinegar flavour) and red Snaps, the fact they are still available in the multipack crisp aisle must mean I am not the only one!

Drumstick lollies and Refresher bars still taste the same! As do Wham bars

I was looking for Heinz toast toppers as I used to have them all the time as kids, but I think Heinz discontinued them a few years ago

Tunnocks snowballs still taste exactly the same!

Redlioness123 · 28/10/2019 13:02

Sorry, the space raiders flavour is pickled onion, not salt and vinegar!

Loopytiles · 28/10/2019 13:03

Monster Munch too!

Scrapbookqueen1 · 28/10/2019 13:03

Monster munch

sam221 · 28/10/2019 14:14

Monster Munch were always so tasty but I think may be weird-I used to lick around the whole crisp and then nibble it!

PralineCookies · 28/10/2019 14:15

Wham bars aren't nearly so sour as they used to be.

JorisBonson · 28/10/2019 14:18

Animal bars! I want one now!

Mine is sliced bananas covered in single cream and sugar. God I'm hungry.

Mileymileymoomoo · 28/10/2019 14:20

Weirdly I was thinking about this the other day. I had Heinz vegetable soup and toast with proper butter. Totally reminded me of being a kid and having the same thing for lunch on a Saturday.

gromberry · 28/10/2019 14:30

Reading this makes me really, really want turkey drummers, potato smileys and Heinz spaghetti hoops. And ketchup, obv
