I know I have been glutinous but hear me out. I did a online shop, had it delivered today and got a 6 pack of Skips crisps for free. I have not had Skips crisps in many many years and was delighted to receive them. On a scale of 1 to 10 how terrible am I, to have ate all 6!?!!! It helps I was watching tv...! They really did melt in my mouth and tasted the same as I remember them.

Birds Eye potato waffles. I’ve been buying them again since learning from Greg Wallace that the inside is actually 100% potato.

Notanalien · 01/11/2019 09:59

That little round cheese with the walnuts on top - last spotted a couple of years ago, and it tasted just as amazing as I remembered.

ThousandCows · 01/11/2019 15:28

@NorthEndGal any chance you'd be kind enough to share your pulla recipe? I have tried and tried to recreate the delicious stuff I used to make with my Mummu, to no avail!

HeronLanyon · 01/11/2019 16:52

I remember those notanalien don’t think I ever actually had one/any but now , absurdly, I have a craving. Was the cheese soft like a goats cheese ? Spreadable ?

Sotiredbutcannotsleep · 01/11/2019 16:57

@NurseButtercup

Cornflake tart and custard

We used to have that for dessert at primary school! 😋 I'll have to hunt for a recipe for it now...

AdaColeman · 01/11/2019 18:35

Notanalien I remember those, were they Saint Julien Rambol? Delicious, soft and creamy, and great on a cheese board too!

emilybrontescorsett · 01/11/2019 18:39

I remember when you could hardly bite through a walnut whip, now they are so thin and small.

Shimy · 01/11/2019 18:41

Cheese
Vienetta ice cream,

NorthEndGal · 02/11/2019 01:00

@ThousandCows for sure! I am home tomorrow, and can post it thenGrin

Heathercob · 02/11/2019 01:08

Kraft macaroni cheese

Interestedwoman · 02/11/2019 01:17

Snaps (spicy tomato flavour crisps) are really tasty.

I had Black Jacks the other day and they were nice.

IDK if I had them much as a child, but there's a retro sweet, blue raspberry pips. which are scrumptious.

Anon202020 · 02/11/2019 01:42

Mint sauce!! I had it on everything as a kid, and when I have it now it reminds me of my childhood!

Anyone remember those crisps that you had to add salt to? Salt was in a blue bag!? .... Crazy stuff!!

k1233 · 02/11/2019 02:21

Mine was a chip sandwich - hot chips on bread and butter. I was super sick and sooky and that was what I felt like and it was really yummy!

HeronLanyon · 02/11/2019 10:44

k1233 what a great word sooky is. I had to look it up. I too go for carbs when Ill/sooky. My go to when under the weather is mashed potato with lots of butter and salt and sometimes bistro gravy which I never use otherwise but adore when have a sooky craving.

HeronLanyon · 02/11/2019 10:45

Bisto !

Zaphodsotherhead · 02/11/2019 11:01

In about 1980 I used to make a kind of pudding where you took gingernuts, dipped them in pineapple juice and then sandwiched them together with whipped cream with the pineapple chunks mixed in. Then covered the whole concoction in whipped cream.

It was lush.

Also lots of milk jellies. Either jelly made with milk or, if we were flush, jelly made with whipped up evaporated milk so it went all foamy.

AdaColeman · 02/11/2019 12:25

Oh yes, milk jelly. When you had been ill, at death's door, and Mother made you a milk jelly, then you knew you would soon be better!

AdaColeman · 02/11/2019 12:27

The milk jelly usually came the day before egg-in-a-cup! Smile

3 things from the 80s that you can’t get anymore and I really miss: ketchips (French fries with ketchup inside them); turkey burgers (Bernard Matthews?) with a thin layer of cheese under breadcrumbs (god I loved those) and jars of mussels / cockles in tomato sauce.

elephantoverthehill · 02/11/2019 18:12

Zaphod my Dm used to do the ginger biscuit pudding, she didn't dip in pineapple juice but put chopped crystallised ginger in between as well as the cream and left over night. I made one a few years ago for a staff end of term thing and received lots of compliments.

sam221 · 02/11/2019 22:59

I got them!!! My goodness I have not had these in decades and am so grateful to all you lovely mumsnetters, honestly they taste good(not great). I feel like i'm transport back to my 10 year old self and trying them for the first time!! Thanks allHalloween Smile

Will hunt viscounts down tomorrow. I remember the foil
And even seem to remember it was kind of two layered foil ? Bit disappointed at how light the chocolate is - I remembered them as dark choc.

sam221 · 03/11/2019 00:50

I remember the foil being single layer but more robust. The taste is similar ish or my tastebuds have evolved, the mint bit on the top was a little creamer before, though the biscuit element seems fairly spot on.
I was super excited to find these again after so many decades !!!
In my defence I went off to Uni, my budget was practically nothing so mostly bought essentials.
I bought several packets and will be posting some to friends overseas, they will be delighted to receive them.

The crisps with the same were smiths salt and shake
Ive definitely seen them in pound shops fairly recently
