I know I have been glutinous but hear me out. I did a online shop, had it delivered today and got a 6 pack of Skips crisps for free. I have not had Skips crisps in many many years and was delighted to receive them. On a scale of 1 to 10 how terrible am I, to have ate all 6!?!!! It helps I was watching tv...! They really did melt in my mouth and tasted the same as I remember them.

Cold meat, creamy mashed potatoes and Branston pickle - used to have that on a Monday when I was a youngster. We also had pancakes with sugar and lemon for pudding on a Monday. I love both!

BeagleMomma · 29/10/2019 00:20

@thatonesmine

I was in a Greggs down in London today and they had Totenham cake there available!

sam221 · 29/10/2019 00:26

Inspired by the beautiful box for my gorgeous new Hot Chocolate shoes, DH went out on Saturday night to look for neapolitan ice cream. He could only get a tub, not a block, so it didn't look quite right. I don't think I'd had any in thirty something years but we are really enjoying it!

Deadringer · 29/10/2019 00:49

Sherbet dip.

floppylettuceisbest · 29/10/2019 01:02

SuzieSunshine - I remember them I think, Burton's Potato Puffs. You could get them in Salted, Salt and Vinegar, Beef, Bacon and Bean and Cheese and Onion Flavours......I loved them. Haven't seen them since our local newsagents closed down some years back.

Vesta Beef Curry (original recipe) is another that I would love to find again - todays version just isn't the same. Another one, Yeoman mashed potato - loads better tasting than Smash anyday Smile

Daisy169 · 29/10/2019 01:04

@newbie1981 I was going to say the same! Tinned hotdog sausages were a staple meal when we went camping as a kid. Had some the other day though and they were gross - and also made of chicken not pork! I had no idea.

Butterymuffin · 29/10/2019 01:10

Pot Noodle beef and tomato flavour with the sachet of cheap ketchup. It's the best flavour.

BasiliskStare · 29/10/2019 01:17

Oh I was just going to say viennetta - I saw one some years ago and bought it for my Ds. I can never forget the way that between DB and me , one of us cut it and the other one chose the slice ( Granny's way of making sure it was fair ) Grin

Daisy169 · 29/10/2019 01:53

@basiliskstare My dad used to do the same! In fact he had a little rhyme about it so maybe that was from an advert.

BasiliskStare · 29/10/2019 02:54

@Daisy169 Ha ha - I don't remember an advert but I do remember - one slices . one chooses. Oh my goodness how carefully would we do this so that sibling did not get the bigger slice. I suspect Granny did it to 1) avoid arguments and 2) it would keep us occupied for a good 15 minutes to get the cut in exactly the right place Grin In fact I think Granny used to buy us Viennetta just to give her a little bit of time off whilst we pored over the distribution - ha ha ha . Well that and Mint Cracknell

Nothing springs to mind but I’ve seen Animal Bars mentioned on this thread a few times now and have been meaning to try and find some for ages, but keep forgetting! Today could be the day!

I’ve also been wanting to try Five Alive again but it seems they don’t make it anymore. Sad

Oh edit to say - Um Bongo! It’s been a couple of years since I last tried it again but I loved it!

HeronLanyon · 29/10/2019 03:13

Skips
Frazzles
Wotsits
Angel delight. Btw angel delight does not work with almond or oat milk. I was so upset when I tried to make it a few years ago for first time in decades (butterscotch obviously). Went straight out and rebought and also full fat milk. Heaven - although oddly have only had one other time - thankfully doesn’t seem to be an addiction.

BlueSuffragette · 29/10/2019 06:53

Love Hearts
Refresher Chews
Angel Delight
Arctic Roll

hazeyjane · 29/10/2019 07:04

Raspberry Ruffle bars
Caramac
School made Gypsy Creams
Eggy bread
Rusks with hot milk

missyB1 · 29/10/2019 07:35

@hazeyjane where did you get the raspberry ruffle bars? I used to love them!

TellMeWhoTheVilliansAre · 29/10/2019 07:46

Farleys Rusks with warm milk.

A real baby food, but delicious 😋

hazeyjane · 29/10/2019 08:08

MissyB1 - my friend owns a sweet shop and sells them, but you can also get them in poundstretcher.

Yes, rusks have to be Farleys....and full sugar.

thatonesmine · 29/10/2019 11:29

@BeagleMomma sadly I'm 150 miles north of London and if you ask for it in a shop here you just get a blank stare Sad

AdaColeman · 29/10/2019 13:11

I've looked up Tottenham cake just now, and remembered that we used to have this as a pudding at school lunch, it had desiccated coconut rather than hundreds & thousands.

Our school kitchen cooked everything on the premises daily, so cakes and puddings were lovely and fresh.

floppylettuceisbest I keep meaning to try Idahoan potato mash to see if it will be a good store cupboard standby.

Rainbunny · 29/10/2019 13:40

I moved back the UK last year after living abroad for a long time and I've been sampling random food items that I haven't had since I was a child. Naturally these are all processed and bad for you things - I swear I was not raised eating this stuff everyday but when I did encounter them they clearly stuck in my childhood memories of deliciousness! My general verdict is that almost nothing tastes as good as I remember - probably for the best! Here's the list of things that I've tried and my verdict:

(Probably) Never Again List:

Anything cadburys - don't know what happened but no! Oh wait -curlywurlys still taste okay.
Barbecue Beef Supernoodles - (nostalgic memories of these as camp food along with sausages). They tasted nothing like I remember.
Mr Kipling's Bakewell Tart - does still taste the same but I think my taste buds have changed, it's far too sweet for me now.
Primula Cheese spread with herbs - God I used to love this stuff as a child but sadly no, it doesn't do anything for me now, tastes somewhat plasticky.
Bird's Eye potato waffles (another camp food fav) - they taste the same but the weird greasy texture is unpleasant now.
Tartex pate - I used to love this so much and it does still taste the same but it also seems to have a weird sort of oily texture now - I might be imagining it but I wonder if there's been some ingredient change.

Things that still taste great list:

Coleslaw - no particular brand, it's just something that just hasn't tasted the same in country where I lived. Coleslaw there always seemed sweet but lacking the sharpness that UK coleslaw has.
Walker's prawn cocktail crisps - my guilty pleasure and just as good as ever Grin
Twiglets - still addictively savoury.
Yorkshire gold tea - how I have missed thee!
Matchmakers Mint chocolate - I only got to eat these at Christmas time so these = Christmas joy to me Grin They still taste like cheap mint chocolate but the joy is still there!

TotHappy · 29/10/2019 13:54

Lemonade ice lollies. Not sure what the brand is, think they're called Frankie's or something but they're the cheap ones that you can get from ice cream vans. We often used to choose them at the beach because they're all fizzy and refreshing and when I went with DD this summer had one again. They taste just the same! Delish!

sam221 · 29/10/2019 15:45

Yorkshire Gold is sublime and I dare i say it,no milk but a squeeze of fresh lemon?

This thread has really made me want some rice pudding like my DM used to make, with jam in it.

Myshitisreal · 29/10/2019 17:36

Most pound shops sell raspberry ruffle bars. 🤤 I love meanies crisps 😁 and pickled onion monster munch although they are much smaller than When I was younger.
