To put my baby boy in shorts with tights?

Someone bought my baby boy a really cute dungaree set, but they’re completely the wrong season as they are short dungarees.
Would I be out the ordinary to pair them with tights!?
The dungarees won’t fit him in the summer and they’re out of stock for me to exchange for a bigger size for summer.

My ex husband was a builder and lots of the blokes used to wear women's tights under their jeans when working on building sites in Winter !

We did this a lot with DS, as he had a lot of hand me downs form a cousin whose birthday is the opposite end of the year, so seasons didn't match size.

Also good under full length trousers if you use a sling, otherwise the legs ride up above sock hight.

Smotheroffive · 28/10/2019 11:35

I hate gender neutral baby clothes

How extreme Hmm

What does it matter what your baby wears? Just because your baby is a boy or a girl its not great to be only defining them by their sex.

We've been trying to get away from harmful gender stereotyping for years, its suffocating for both sexes.

I think tights under shorts dungarees are cute, no matter what the sex of the baby, and in whatever colour.

OP are you seriously so worried about mis gender stereotyping your baby DS ? There's no such thing, just clothes.

Mine have worn all sorts of colours and styles, it matters not. Just enjoy your time with your baby. Flowers

Did it with all 3 of my boys and was not unusual for other parents in the area as well. Gap do navy thick woolen ones, think they had a Teddy bear on the BUM, used to get in the outlet I think, H and m used to sell navy and 'boyish' patterns as well. You can't even tell under trousers, kept the babies cosy and no faffing losing socks so they were always neat.

Lillyhatesjaz · 28/10/2019 11:57

When I worked in a nursery and was changing a lot of nappies on 2 to 4 year olds I noticed that nearly all the Polish boys had tights on under their trousers in the winter. I always thought this was a really good idea as it's nice and warm. I assumed that their mums are used to dressing their LOs for a colder climate.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/10/2019 14:26

Tights are great and you can increasingly get Footless ones in "boy" styles

I don't know about anyone else but I find the idea of a load of grown men walking around in women's rights very creepy.

LeftoverPizza · 28/10/2019 16:59

I think it’s fine, DS wore tights and dungarees and I didn’t have a problem with it

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 28/10/2019 17:00

I hate tights, wouldn't put them on boys or girls.

notso · 28/10/2019 17:23

Dress your baby however you want!

I hate shorts and tights together and hate tights and leggings on babies so wouldn't have dressed mine in them. Mine only had tights for extremely cold weather.

hoorayforharoldlloyd · 28/10/2019 18:46

I have done the same. He looks kind of german or scandi. There are 'boys' tights in h and m. They are just thermals really.

I bet he will look adorable! If you have no luck in h&m both Next and Tesco had nice dark blue and navy tights in the other day when I was looking

Camomila · 28/10/2019 19:39

I think the builders probably did it because tights are probably a bit cheaper than long johns.

I put tights under DS clothes if its very cold in winter. I didn't bother to go look for boy ones though, I just got a white/red/navy multipack.

Can someone define 'gender neutral' baby clothes? For example, what colour top is a girls top supposed to be?

Venger · 28/10/2019 19:51

Gender neutral baby outfit:

White sack with "babi" printed across the front in standardised font and spelled without a Y in case it implicates male traits. No ribbons, ruffles, or toggles.

Do away with stupid sex stereotyping.. so much scientific research showing how harmful gender role stereotypes are to dc

Steer well clear

over head bands and being 'girly girl' 'tom boy'

Where what you want. Lets move forward, not back!

Also - shh don’t tell anyone cos it’s really sinister - some women wear trousers. I know, it’s totally disgusting but they’re pretty brazen about it.

(You do get the the blokes who wear them to make an outside job more bearable buy them from a shop, not sneak them from the neighbour’s washing line, right?)

SleepingStandingUp · 28/10/2019 20:49

Can someone define 'gender neutral' baby clothes? must only be cream or brown according to most shops. No animals - animals are specifically gendered. Bunnies are girls. Lions are boys etc.

I find the idea of a load of grown men walking around in women's rights very creepy well if they buy them for them surely they're mens tights? I'd be pissed if DH stole my tights, he has long freaky toes and would stretch them

Pinkyyy · 28/10/2019 20:50

@JassyRadlett you're not even funny. A grown man in women's rights is fucking weird.

Smotheroffive · 28/10/2019 20:51

Oh stop it with this harmful rhetoric.

Are you the maker up of rules and gender stereotypes police. Blimey.

Pinkyyy · 28/10/2019 20:52

You're just acting stupid. Shops are boasting about their gender neutral baby ranges left right and centre, so not sure why you're acting like they don't exist.

Grimbles · 28/10/2019 20:54

I'm not saying they dont exist, I'm asking what makes a piece of clothing gender neutral.

Pinkyyy · 28/10/2019 20:56

So if you know they exist then you know what they are, so why are you asking me?

Grimbles · 28/10/2019 20:57

If you cant answer that's ok.
