To put my baby boy in shorts with tights?

Someone bought my baby boy a really cute dungaree set, but they’re completely the wrong season as they are short dungarees.
Would I be out the ordinary to pair them with tights!?
The dungarees won’t fit him in the summer and they’re out of stock for me to exchange for a bigger size for summer.

In minority here too probably, leggings yes, but wouldn't put him in full on tights 🤷‍♀️

GettingABitDesperateNow · 27/10/2019 20:59

I'd probably try and swap them for something else only because dungarees and tights are the biggest faff in the world for checking nappies and nappy changes

All DS’ dungarees have poppers at the bottom so not difficult at all

Andonandonan · 27/10/2019 21:08

My DS wore loads of tights when he was a baby - we especially loved the slugs and snails ones. He had some very awesome dragon ones that were my real faves.

Go for it!

Blii · 27/10/2019 21:19

Thank you for all the replies. I shall purchase some ‘boy’ tights so he can wear the lovely dungarees.
Thank you for the suggestions, H&M seems a good place to start searching Smile

Not my cup of tea but go for it.

Abneyandteal19 · 27/10/2019 21:22

Boys in tights is common place in many European countries- that why HM do specific 'boy' tights,

My boys 2 and 4 wear them in winter all the time- no issues at all- especially under ski type trousers to keep warm- not a problem at all!

TheLette · 27/10/2019 21:23

Yes to tights! H&M has "boys" ones. Alternatively JoJo have footless knitted leggings that could work. Tights are also useful to put on a baby if you use a sling, keep them nice and warm in the winter as an extra layer under some trousers

Ohyesiam · 27/10/2019 21:24

No of course not. His balls might fall off.

OpheliaBee · 27/10/2019 21:30

Jojo tights are great too! We have them in turquoise, green and mustard. We also have some lovely thick Aldi tights in spots and stripes. And some even thicker Lidl ones! (Oh god I sound like a tights fanatic 😬)

dottycat123 · 27/10/2019 21:54

I used to put both my ds in tights when they were babies under whatever leg wear they had on. They are grown up now. it's sensible in cold weather.

Marriedwithchildren5 · 27/10/2019 21:56

Agree with @Pinkyyy. On this subject not an issue with boys in shorts and tights though. It's not really new.

RolyHappyNorrieTagBetty · 27/10/2019 23:18

@Pinkyyy pretty much all babies look like wrinkly old men. But an excellent way to put gender stereotypes on our children from birth!

Awaywiththepiskies · 28/10/2019 06:27

I think it's weird, but I know I'm in the minority. I hate gender neutral baby clothes

You certainly are in the minority - boys (and men) wear tights all over the rest of Europe where it is quite normal.

WatchingTheMoon · 28/10/2019 06:38

God, I wouldn't even think about it.

I live in Korea and despite it being way more rigid in many ways than the west, I find people are way more relaxed about children's clothes here, especially little babies. I see a lot of little boys dressed a lot more fancily than the usual boring Avengers shorts and t-shirts that seems to be the pinnacle of western boys' fashion.

VodkaRevelation · 28/10/2019 06:38

My 4 year old still wears these just with a top. They do them in sizes from birth upwards. They have grips on the feet if you decide you quite like them for when your son gets older @Blii.

And @Pinkyyy, he still looks like a boy. 😱
As yet, no signs his penis is going to fall off but I’ll keep you posted.

KnitFastDieWarm · 28/10/2019 06:41

My boy wore tights and shorts as a baby all the time and looked adorable. It’s practical, cosy, and he’s not caught The Gay yet Hmm (Although as a queer woman myself I’m still hopeful! Grin)

KnitFastDieWarm · 28/10/2019 06:43

At nearly four, he also owns knickers with kittens and bows on, T-shirts with sequins, wellies with captain America and sweaters with dinosaurs, because what we like isn’t related to our gender Hmm So no, OP, you are definitely NBU!

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 28/10/2019 06:45

YABU to think you might be wrong to do it.

SamBeckett · 28/10/2019 06:55

I would go for it , as PP have said its ok for police and my DGF was a bricky he always wore tights under his jeans in the winter and that was at least 30 years ago so nothing new there

Kpo58 · 28/10/2019 06:57

I think that YABU as tights do absolutely nothing if there is a breezy day. I think that he'll be too cold in shorts and tights.

unkindnessofravens · 28/10/2019 07:09

I wouldn't, but only because trying to dress my DS is like trying to wrestle a snake into a bag, otherwise I'd definitely do it.

Heulog · 28/10/2019 07:13

My ds (4yo) wears thermal long John's under trousers when we are out walking. You can buy them at mountain warehouse or similar, they don't have feet in but he is warm and toasty.
