To put my baby boy in shorts with tights?

Someone bought my baby boy a really cute dungaree set, but they’re completely the wrong season as they are short dungarees.
Would I be out the ordinary to pair them with tights!?
The dungarees won’t fit him in the summer and they’re out of stock for me to exchange for a bigger size for summer.

I think it’s absolutely fine. Go for it

midnightmisssuki · 27/10/2019 20:04

My son uses tights.

Pinkyyy · 27/10/2019 20:04

I think it's weird, but I know I'm in the minority. I hate gender neutral baby clothes.

Rubbleonthedouble1 · 27/10/2019 20:04

I’ve done this with my DS. go for it!

nannynick · 27/10/2019 20:04

YANBU - I've cared for many baby boys who have worn tights in winter months.

EskewedBeef · 27/10/2019 20:05

Of course that's fine. Babies spend most of their time in variations of footed garments.

Gormless · 27/10/2019 20:06

It was good enough for superman!

EmploymentIssues · 27/10/2019 20:06

My ds wears tights
I will say though often ‘girls’ clothes are smaller sized if I’m getting boys things in 18-24 mths then I end up having to get 2-3 in girls

MurderOfGoths · 27/10/2019 20:08

One of my favourite photos of DS is him wearing short dungarees with tights underneath. It was too cold to go without, and he'd have grown out of them by the time it was warm enough to wear them without the tights.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 27/10/2019 20:08

DS wore tights under full length dungarees. Stopped him pulling his socks off.

Cookit · 27/10/2019 20:09

How old is your baby? Mine is still in summer things or just a short sleeved vest because outside the house she tends to be in her snowsuit which I pop on over.

Gingaaarghpussy · 27/10/2019 20:10

I've been known to put a Babygro under a pair of dungarees, never thought of tights.

Crunchymum · 27/10/2019 20:11

I have no issue with the tights, but why didn't you swap the item for something more seasonal?

IVEgotthePUMPKINS · 27/10/2019 20:11

cookit how warm is your house!?

SoftSheen · 27/10/2019 20:11

It's fine maybe not pink ones though

OpheliaBee · 27/10/2019 20:12

DS wore tights and a long sleeved vest with a jumper earlier. They stop him taking off his socks, and mean that his trousers don’t ride up of he’s in the sling. The other day I put him in a summer romper and tights as he’d only worn it a couple of times on holiday and it seemed like a waste otherwise. We’re all about the tights here.

mrsfee · 27/10/2019 20:14

I have a picture of my son with the actor Alan Cumming...said son is wearing shorts/dungarees (can't remember) with tights. This picture will come out for years to come so I say embrace the tights! Added bonus, can't pull them off and complain of cold toes...

DowntonCrabby · 27/10/2019 20:15

I loved tights on my DS when he was younger. They also stay on easier than socks which are inevitably pull off in minutes.

Kittenbittenmitten · 27/10/2019 20:15

Go for it! My son is 3 and a half now so I'd only put him in tights if super cold but when he was younger, I put him in tights in winter. Little bugger used to remove his shoes and socks which guaranteed disapproving glances from old ladies. No I wasn't imagining it. Though he tried, he couldn't remove the tights. It meant he was warm and I was safe from withering stares.

MissMarpletheMurderer · 27/10/2019 20:17

Mine always wore tights, people were sometimes weird. How the fuck can something be unsuitable for a child with a willy but suitable for someone without a willy. When you put it like that it is bizarre

RolyHappyNorrieTagBetty · 27/10/2019 20:19

@Pinkyyy you 'hate gender neutral baby clothes'? What does that even mean?
Do you think tights require a vagina to be worn?

EmperorBallpitine · 27/10/2019 20:20

Tights look good and he will be warm. Win win. I still put my school age boy in tights under trousers in very cold weather and I believe that is commonly done in colder climates.

Venger · 27/10/2019 20:22

"Back in the day" it was normal for all babies to wear short garments with tights. DH has some lovely old photographs of FIL with him wearing frilly bib-shorts, lacy tights, and tiny little leather shoes Grin

sheshootssheimplores · 27/10/2019 20:23

I dressed DS1 up in colourful tights until he was about two lol. Poor child. I didn’t feel the need to do it to my second son, I think I primarily used babygrows as it was a lot easier.

So I’m going to say no, YANU, but you might look back why photos and wonder if your hormones were out of whack 🤭
