To put my baby boy in shorts with tights?

Someone bought my baby boy a really cute dungaree set, but they’re completely the wrong season as they are short dungarees.
Would I be out the ordinary to pair them with tights!?
The dungarees won’t fit him in the summer and they’re out of stock for me to exchange for a bigger size for summer.

Definitely fine! My now 4yo had some gorgeous shorty dungarees (dark blue) which he wore bright scarlet tights underneath. And some other ones he wore navy tights under.

Tbh, even at 4 he’d be happy to wear tights under his trousers if it was very cold.

Blade and rose do lovely tights for boys as well as for girls and there are some on sale when I last looked

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 27/10/2019 20:26

DH used to wear tights when he was in the army, and when he did night security shifts. If its OK for a soldier, it's absolutely fine for a baby.

Sexnotgender · 27/10/2019 20:26

It’s totally fine!!

Kanga83 · 27/10/2019 20:27

My boy frequently wore tights. Keeps them warmer, no loosing odd socks. Go for it. Even now at four with the weather getting colder he has his superhero tights for under his onesie for bonfire night etc.

Pinkyyy · 27/10/2019 20:28

@RolyHappyNorrieTagBetty no it means I like baby girls to look like baby girls, and baby boys to look like baby boys.

Eeeeek2 · 27/10/2019 20:28

I think it's fine, jojomamanbebe do some great tights in nice colours.

WorldEndingFire · 27/10/2019 20:29

What would be unreasonable about it? Just find something you like the look of that will be warm enough and enjoy them.

PearlsBeforeWine · 27/10/2019 20:30

The other babies will be giving him some major side eye

Yanbu, I never needed to but I was fully intending to put ds in tights last winter under trousers if it got very cold. Hes 16 months now and I'll do it this year if it's cold enough.

Pinkyyy · 27/10/2019 20:36

@MotherOfSoupDragons Biscuit

@VaggieMight that was a side note really, to explain that I like gendered baby clothes and therefore wouldn't put a boy in tights.

Biancadelrioisback · 27/10/2019 20:36

Eh? Tights and shorts don't look good on anyone let alone a baby. I'm all for tights, DS still wears them in the really cold months (he's nearly 3) but not with shorts...

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 27/10/2019 20:38

I often used to put tights on DS1 as he was a demon for pulling his socks off Grin go for it!

crispysausagerolls · 27/10/2019 20:38

I don’t like boys in tights. Leggings fine but not full on tights

crispysausagerolls · 27/10/2019 20:39

But I also hate babies in shirts and denim and anything else uncomfortable so I’m odd

Lazypuppy · 27/10/2019 20:39

I think tights on boys is weird and wouldn't do it myself

Areyoufree · 27/10/2019 20:41

Tights on boys are perfectly normal in other countries - not sure why there is an issue! My son refuses to wear trousers, but really feels the cold, so he often wears shorts with tights. He's now nearly 6. Bought him some nice ones with "manly" trains on, if that makes some of the PPs feel better!

Kanga83 · 27/10/2019 20:41

These ones look good. They have them in blue with a snowman and penguins on too. The 'hating gender neutral clothes' amongst you best not click on them.

Pinkarsedfly · 27/10/2019 20:41

DH used to wear tights as a big butch riot copper. Kept him warm. Just put the tights on the baby, OP!

Victorybird · 27/10/2019 20:45

Tights take longer to put on than socks but also stay on for far longer so the effort pays off. They are much more practical than baby socks. I certainly did it with both of my boys so I don't think yabu at all. I had loads of pairs of lovely little stripey numbers for them - they looked really cute.

Daisy7654 · 27/10/2019 20:48

I used to put baby tights on my DS (neutral or navy or white, under baby trousers or long dungarees ) and was shocked when people were off about it. Everyone complained their babies pulled their socks off and I really felt I'd invented the cure but no one would do it!

Some of these replies have surprised me, I thought babies of both genders wearing tights was completely normal. DS had loads of footless tight things to wear under shorts
