Mystery knickers

A pair of black knickers appeared (clean) in a pile of clothing I had ready to wash in the living room. They are not mine. Confused

I asked DP and he genuinely seems clueless. We work together + we spend 95% of our time together. I do work 2 evenings a week, but during this time DP is looking after our toddler & I'm back within 2 hours of DS going to bed.

We haven't had any female guests staying. DPs male friend stayed with us 4 weeks ago and it did cross my mind, but they'd be far too small (size 6) for him anyway.

Anyone want to help me play detective?Grin

I had a pair of men’s boxers appear in my washing once... I’m pretty sure they came from the back of the airing cupboard when I cleaned it out.

womenspeakout · 22/10/2019 17:45

There was a similar thread a few months ago with a mystery pair of knickers, which then resulted if they were 'sexy' enough to be wearing if someone was having an affair......

psuedocream3 · 22/10/2019 17:46

I'd be thinking the worst too tbh. Hubby has affair, knickers get lost down the covers of the bed, lets face it, it happens to the best of us, hubby doesn't realise woman left knickers. Goes to change sheets and chucks everything in, assuming they were yours. Ends up washed and clean. Hubby realising mistake denies all knowledge ,but lets face it, it's the most likely scenario here, certainly more plausible than a cat bringing in random washed knickers and leaving them in the clean washing pile.

I hope for you that he hasn't cheated, but generally, it's only a matter of time before cheaters get found out.

Lovemenorca · 22/10/2019 17:48

I don’t think I’m paranoid at all but it would make me jump to having an affair to be honest, if they smell of detergent they’ve been washed recently.

I would say that you are a little paranoid then. I trusted my ex completely (he’s not an ex through infidelity. I still trust him completely. Long story). If I had found a pair of agent provocateur knickers and bra set and he had said that he didn’t know how got there - I would have believed him.

To jump immediately to an affair would indicate a lack of trust at some level

Bluesunglasses · 22/10/2019 18:04

Had been living in my house for over a year when a pair of size 6 thongs fell from behind a radiator when I knocked a letter down the back of it, I'm a size 12 and I live alone always have so clearly from previous occupant- something like that maybe?

limitedscreentime · 22/10/2019 18:11

Sigh, it’s always perfectly obvious in these situations that the sock fairy’s (who steal all the left socks from a pair when washing) are simply redistributing profits

BigFatLiar · 22/10/2019 18:15

@Bluesunglasses - I think you must have been having an affair! Pack all your stuff in a bin bag and throw yourself out! Leave the bitch!!

HavelockVetinari · 22/10/2019 18:17

Shock my sock fairies always steal the right-hand sock! Shock

A nationwide conspiracy!

Instagrrr · 22/10/2019 18:17

This happened to my friends mum/dad. He was shagging the work experience girl at work 😵

sophiestew · 22/10/2019 18:22

Is MIL very small? As you have been staying at hers, it seems entirely possible a pair of her black knickers could have ended up with your stuff.....

Doesn't explain how it got in the washing pile though...Confused

BareKneesDeCourcy · 22/10/2019 18:26

HavelockVetinari

Don’t be ridiculous. What kind of pervert would wear a sock on their right hand?

yummymushypeas · 22/10/2019 18:26

Wow - this happens at my house all the time. Just assume they've been left when we have guests (we host quite a lot), I've picked then up somewhere or sock fairy redistribution. I'm intrigued. X

Bluesunglasses · 22/10/2019 18:31

@BigFatLiar packing as we speak!

B9ddy · 22/10/2019 18:31

Elephant in the room...
Ok, so do you think he is having an affair with a stick insect who put them in his pocket so you would find out ?

glg2108 · 22/10/2019 18:31

My friend had this issue once... turns out they were her husband's little sisters.. it was a rough time in that household until they worked it out 😂

FelicisNox · 22/10/2019 18:34

I'm team radiator.

I've dropped LOADS of knickers and socks down them and they've been there ages and smell clean but not fresh when rescued at a much later stage.

Sleep on it and see how you feel tomorrow. Go with your gut.

It does seem unlikely your OH has had the time or opportunity to cheat and it's best to go with what you know to be fact rather than start making stuff up in your head.

Best of luck.

Actionhasmagic · 22/10/2019 18:34

We need coleen Rooney on the case

Cherry83 · 22/10/2019 18:35

Bluesunglasses that was my first thought too. After moving house we found children's socks appearing on the floor having fallen down from behind radiators at various times until I cleaned behind them all with a radiator brush. If my DH had found them he would have picked them up and put them in the wash assuming they were DC's then I would be wondering where on earth they appeared from!

Plumbuddle · 22/10/2019 18:38

I had a friend who did not know he had rats. The rats stole socks to make nests. I would have been suggesting this but for the fact that these knickers appeared in the ready washing pile. That means human agency. We’re they in the top of the pile or tucked in? Who manages and controls the pile? Does it grow in that place over time as you or several people add to it, or was it a stack you had taken from somewhere else eg emptied laundry bin on floor then gone off to do something else? I would hone in on a forensic exploration of the movements of the pile or parts of it, and how long it had lain there etc. The fact that it suddenly appeared in the pile definitely suggests someone adding it in rather than it emerging from a quilt etc.

EmeraldShamrock · 22/10/2019 18:39

It is strange.
It may not be sinister though I have heard of working ladies of the night leaving a token for the wife.
Condom wrapper not sure about their undies?

Gotthetshirt23 · 22/10/2019 18:40

I found a pair of paper knickers in the corner cupboard that houses the electric unit ......

Derbee · 22/10/2019 18:45

The one time this happened to us, we puzzled out that they had been behind a radiator and been hooked up with our own laundry drying on the radiator. It was only a few months after we moved in so they must have belonged to the previous resident

OP, don’t freak out! This happened to us a couple of months ago. Luckily it was a sock, not pants, so less suspicious looking, but it had an ‘N’ on it, which we knew was the initial of one of the previous owners children!

Bapa · 22/10/2019 18:45

This happened to me. I think it arrived from behind the radiator

Furiosa · 22/10/2019 18:46

OP, does your DS go to nursery?

Recently I found individually wrapped sanitary towels in my handbag that aren't mine.

I asked the DCs and DS (7) didn't know what they were but my largely non verbal DD (4) said gleefuly ''They are for your pants!''. I think she took them from someones handbag a school Blush

Could your DS have raided someones personal property at some point?

Derbee · 22/10/2019 18:46

We’ve been in the house for 4 years! Obviously don’t clean behind the radiators Blush
