Mystery knickers

starfishcoffee · 21/10/2019 08:54

A pair of black knickers appeared (clean) in a pile of clothing I had ready to wash in the living room. They are not mine. Confused

I asked DP and he genuinely seems clueless. We work together + we spend 95% of our time together. I do work 2 evenings a week, but during this time DP is looking after our toddler & I'm back within 2 hours of DS going to bed.

We haven't had any female guests staying. DPs male friend stayed with us 4 weeks ago and it did cross my mind, but they'd be far too small (size 6) for him anyway.

Anyone want to help me play detective?Grin

Have you picked them up whilst swimming or at the gym?

keepingbees · 21/10/2019 18:32

Do you buy secondhand clothes? If I buy from a charity shop I chuck them straight in the washing bin. Just thinking could they have come out of a trouser leg or pocket of something secondhand?

holidays987 · 21/10/2019 19:59

Well they are not dusty, look clean and smell like laundry powder slightly. They haven't been behind a radiator.

bellarena · 21/10/2019 20:27

I don't think he's cheating for what it's worth...

I wouldn't leave a tryst without my knickers!

LaIr7 · 21/10/2019 21:24

I don’t think I’m paranoid at all but it would make me jump to having an affair to be honest, if they smell of detergent they’ve been washed recently.

SirVixofVixHall · 21/10/2019 22:06

I just found a nightdress that I haven’t worn for at least 18m, wedged in the back of the airing cupboard. It smells clean and faintly of detergent, and I use an eco detergent without a strong scent. I have things from my Mum’s house when we cleared it that had been in an airing cupboard for several years and they smell of the powder she used.

grandmasterstitch · 21/10/2019 22:42

Has your washing machine ever been used by someone else? When we were in rented (white goods included) our machine spat out a baby sock and a pen knife

Meandmyhamsterheadagain · 21/10/2019 23:17

I am genuinely curious of the answer! In the summer holidays I took the washing down and discovered a pair of black lacey pants that werent mine on the line! I instantly accused DH who swore blind they were nothing to do with him. I am still as confused about how they got there! Unlike you, I do not entirely trust him and atill question myself for not taking it further. The theories suggested here do not fit for me either.

Is there a mystery knicker planting fairy somewhere?! Hope you find out where they're from!

mamandematribu · 21/10/2019 23:37

Sorry I haven't read the entire thread but if he is definitely not cheating on you, could your dh be a secret knicker thief? Or even a cross dresser?

SinisterSparkle · 21/10/2019 23:40

They look like man pants maybe the friend likes his tight but was too embarrassed to admit they were his

starfishcoffee · 22/10/2019 00:01

The scent of laundry powder isn't strong like fresh washing. Nobody other than DP and I has ever used our washing machine.

I really don't think DP is a cross dresser, nor a knickers thief. Like I said, when we are not working we are home together. We are very close and I've never had any reason to suspect cross dressing, I wash & sort all his clothes and tbh I don't know how he'd be able to hide that from me!

It's definitely possible that the friend is too embarrassed to 'confess' - but they're definitely women's underwear and very small sized too.

NearlyGranny · 22/10/2019 00:05

Would they even fit him if he put them on?!

Findumdum1 · 22/10/2019 00:11

Have you changed your bedding recently? I often find pants and socks in mine when putting a duvet cover on, sometimes been in there for months as i have a few sets and often just wash and use the last one. Maybe got in there when washed while you were staying at his mothers

NormaBean · 22/10/2019 00:24

A neighbour’s cat used to leave his treasure in our garden. This led to a few odd things being brought in over time, mainly by DH when bringing in the washing and assuming the socks/bibs had fallen off the line.

They’d then resurface and I’d be left wondering why we have baby bibs and no baby.

VenusTiger · 22/10/2019 00:42

@starfishcoffee if your DH was having affair, he’d have texted his friend before you and asked him to cover for him surely.

They’ve come from behind the radiator- can’t you ask your son? Say “are these mommy’s knickers?” “Did you find them for me?”

My son used to love helping me put the washing on at that age. Still likes to put the detergent and softener in now, and he’s six.

starfishcoffee · 22/10/2019 00:49

@VenusTiger

I agree, an affair seems unlikely. I could ask DS but he is only just 17 months - he doesn't speak (properly) yet and I'm 100% sure he would just stare at me quizzically or just say "no", as he doesn't say "yes" yet.

He does enjoy helping me hang out laundry though. Grin

I use tiny knickers to pull my thick hair off my face when I do my makeup and have my hair in rollers. The shape of them holds the rollers in place. Id often not take them off and remove rollers until I arrived somewhere (bizarre I know !) so they would often be in my bag or in my car
Ive found them everywhere and my mates have too !

NearlyGranny · 22/10/2019 12:01

I use tiny cotton knickers as dusters which confuses OH who puts them away in my knicker drawer. I was annoyed when DDs 1 and 2 took to wearing extremely tiny knickers with no useful dusting capacity!

I tracked their growing up by how many pegs their knickers needed on the line: 1, then 2, then back to 1 again.

Cocojumbo · 22/10/2019 13:05

Ok I think there is another scenario from all the info I gathered here Grin
So the old neighbour who uses laundrette has accidentally brought them home with his washed clothes, found knickers that are no use for him and threw them in your garden. Then your DH or DC found them and put in the laundry basket assuming they are yours and you dropped them when getting clothes from the washing line.
Mystery solved Grin

Bozlem80 · 22/10/2019 17:22

Could they be yours & the wrong label is in them & you’ve never noticed before?

ArvidsDaddy · 22/10/2019 17:32

I have lost some black lacy knickers somewhere. Anyone seem them? Grin

MommaDuck · 22/10/2019 17:34

I don’t have any answer for you, but I know I would automatically be thinking the worst- because unfortunately due to traumas that’s where my brain automatically jumps!
I hope that is not the case, nor am I sure you’ll ever get the answer to this mystery.
But I just wanted to wish you the best of luck moving forward and I hope it doesn’t weigh on your mind too much.

MrsTommyShelby · 22/10/2019 17:37

@Allgold33 I was going to suggest this. It's happened to me in a previous flat before with some baby socks. We didn't have kids.

MollyHuaCha · 22/10/2019 17:39

Curiouser and curiouser...
