Mystery knickers

A pair of black knickers appeared (clean) in a pile of clothing I had ready to wash in the living room. They are not mine. Confused

I asked DP and he genuinely seems clueless. We work together + we spend 95% of our time together. I do work 2 evenings a week, but during this time DP is looking after our toddler & I'm back within 2 hours of DS going to bed.

We haven't had any female guests staying. DPs male friend stayed with us 4 weeks ago and it did cross my mind, but they'd be far too small (size 6) for him anyway.

Anyone want to help me play detective?Grin

Where did the clothes needing washing come from? All from the washing basket? Just scooped up and left in the lounge and then the knickers appeared?

starfishcoffee · 21/10/2019 11:50

@CSIblonde

No, I don't think so as we were in mostly.

@NoSauce

Washing from upstairs brought down + DS clothes from that day that were left under the high chair. I confess I didn't do the laundry immediately definitely not lazy, but when I went to wash it they had appeared.

Do you have a laundry bin upstairs, or are things just scooped up?

NoSauce · 21/10/2019 11:55

I bet somehow it’s either fallen or been poked by your toddler out of the radiator. I can’t think of any other reason sorry!

Are you feeling a bit better now you’ve chatted to people? I hope so Flowers

recrudescence · 21/10/2019 11:56

Did you install you own washing machine when you moved in?

rhinocrash · 21/10/2019 11:59

One of my friends routinely took off trousers and knickers at the same time.

She came to my house once and the day before's pair of knickers fell out from the bottom of her jeans onto my kitchen floor. She didn't even realise!

Have you any slatternly friends?! Grin

If not, I am seconding the back-of-radiator theory.

starfishcoffee · 21/10/2019 12:00

I could contact the friend, we get on well. It just seems like such a bizarre thing to bring up/ask - he is quite an awkward person anyway.

We set up our own washing machine.
We do have a laundry bin upstairs but sometimes there is scooping to be done too.

@NoSauce

The fact that they were obviously clean knickers strongly supports the behind the radiator theory. Your little one has probably spotted them, being closer to ground level than you or DP, & just fished them out.
While it's possible some woman's been there up to no good with your DP I've looked on the website & agree with a pp - these are expensive, tasteful knickers. Does he know/work with the kind of women who have the money to spend £20 - £40 just on a pair of every day knickers? The rest of their clothing would probably be of a similar high end price range.
If you bought your house from a woman/couple or a single man then I'd be content in my mind that they're a legacy from their time there. This is coming from a woman who got home from hospital after giving birth to find another woman's knickers under the duvet at the bottom of our bed & a husband looking me in the eye & trying to convince me that they were mine or had simply materialised out of thin air. Neither explanation was true which is one of the very many reasons why he became my ex.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 21/10/2019 12:08

I have found knickers down the back of the radiator before so that's a possibility - could DP have found them, put them in the pile thinking they're yours? I also found a couple of socks down the back of the radiator when we moved into our current flat.

Obviously it could be dodgy but it sounds like he hasn't had time and there are also other explanations.

BoggiesBonnieBelle · 21/10/2019 12:18

We found socks down behind the radiator about a year after we moved in.

We had a teenage tee shirt materialise once. It must have belonged to one of the teenage DCs friends, but we asked them all and no one claimed it.

Pringlesfortea · 21/10/2019 12:32

I bought new knickers ,and one of the pairs in the pack was the wrong size to the rest ,someone had put them in the pack by mistake

SirVixofVixHall · 21/10/2019 12:35

This is how the size appears, on the under label .

I once found a pair of expensive knickers that weren't mine when I was clearing out the hot press. They were right in at the back and totally buried behind the tank. We had only lived in the house about 2 years so I just assumed they belonged to previous owners. Could it be something like that op?

EKGEMS · 21/10/2019 12:42

I've heard of house cats who steal laundry off clothes lines

SirVixofVixHall · 21/10/2019 12:48

I think radiator, mainly because I found some here , when I was looking behind a sitting room radiator to fish out something I had dropped. We had been here for at least three years....dusting behind the radiator never occurred to me....anyway the trapped knickers fell down with the vest I was retrieving. They were the right size for the previous owner, I am sure they must have been hers.

starfishcoffee · 21/10/2019 12:50

@SirVixofVixHall

Thank you - it appears that it has been ripped out or was never there! (in which case I have been seeing things)Blush

Are they a bit duty like they've been holed up somewhere? Or do they smell freshly washed?

ThreeLittleDots · 21/10/2019 12:58

*dusty

Mydogmylife · 21/10/2019 13:03

I'm going with the behind the radiator theory. Popped on there to dry, fell down the back, and have worked their way down and out. We found toddlers socks on the floor by the radiator about 6 months after we moved in, deffo not ours!

Mother87 · 21/10/2019 13:07

BrennaGrinGrinwas actually thinking of cats wearing special knickers🤦🏻‍♀️then gathered you meant nicked no pun.... from washing line etc

Cooroo · 21/10/2019 13:14

Spooky. Last week I went to put on a pair of knickers that were in my drawer and realised they weren't mine. Black, M&S, size 18 (I'm a 12). I imagine I laundered them and put them in the drawer. My sister had stayed but swears they aren't hers. My DD has visited but she's an 8. I really do not think my DP is having an affair (I did ask!!).

So I can only conclude there is a secret society devoted to insinuating random knickers into people's houses.

NoSauce · 21/10/2019 13:16

Do you ever send your ironing out to be done?

IceAndASlice123 · 21/10/2019 13:18
  1. Does DH go swimming with DS? Maybe he has picked them up thinking they are his pants if they are small.
  2. Possible that DS has picked them up from someone's house and brought them into yours
Just throwing a few ideas around. X
