Hello

We at MNHQ are getting a few media queries about whether MNers are worrying about travel over the half-term because of... oh, you know what (Brexit, October 31 'exit' date).

We couldn't see lots of you talking about this elsewhere so please indulge us by answering our poll - in which

YABU = I have cancelled, delayed or avoided half-term travel abroad that I would otherwise have gone ahead with

and

YANBU = the October 31 Brexit/exit date has not affected my travel plans this half term (including those of you who had no intention of travelling abroad then anyway)

Also do feel free to tell us more generally what you think about this issue so that we'll have something to say on the radio

Thank you and apologies for the appallling mis-use of the AIBU poll function

MNHQ x

Sad it hasn't given me the poll option. Curses

I don't have a poll showing!
No plans to travel due to work.

NataliaOsipova · 16/10/2019 10:58

YABU - we’ve delayed a holiday.

Gazelda · 16/10/2019 11:01

YANBU. Wouldn't have been travelling anywhere though.

And while we're on the subject of polls @rowanmumsnet, are they going to be rolled out to the masses, I feel a bit excluded in not seeing them!

I did delay a holiday last year, I am bored of it now, we all have valid passports, it's holiday as usual now. Worst comes to the worst, the queues at the border will take longer, I am taking snacks.

It hasn’t effected my plans BUT as my MIL lives in France I am concerned that any immediate knock on could have an impact if there where any issues with her in that short time til things where sorted

Yanbu it hasn’t changed our plans at all. Flying from the US into Paris on the 31st. Few days in Paris and then flying back to the uk.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 16/10/2019 11:09

Hasn't affected my travel plans at all, because we are away now. But Brexit won't happen anyway.

Petrichor11 · 16/10/2019 11:11

I wasn’t planning to travel over half term anyway.

I’ll be holding off on booking a spring flight until we know if there’s a new deadline date. I’ll still book, but will try to avoid travelling over the actual deadline, if there is a new one.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/10/2019 11:12

YANBU.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 16/10/2019 11:13

Didn't have any plans to travel at half term. But I'm very naive (don't listen, get bored) so don't really understand why I would/should be concerned. My husband has tried to explain but I switch off 🤦🏻‍♀️😳

Wtfdoipick · 16/10/2019 11:13

Yanbu but we also go back on the 30th so our half term is over before anything will happen

YABU @RowanMumsnet for starting this thread here because there is a Brexit board to which MNHQ has regularly shifted threads for the past 3.5 years.

tinytemper66 · 16/10/2019 11:14

Uncertainty in my husband's business made me not book and now I would like to go away he has to work so dithering means we are not going abroad. We will be in London for the weekend of 1-3 November instead.

KatherineJaneway · 16/10/2019 11:17

YANBU. I am not travelling over that week but I would if I wanted to, Brexit wouldn't stop me.

30to50FeralHogs · 16/10/2019 11:19

I can’t see the poll, but it hasn’t affected any plans I may have had. Wasn’t planning to go to Europe anyway, kids may have travelled to Middle East to see their dad or he may have come back here, but no firm plans. I’m which case DP and I would have gone to NYC or somewhere.

Given that the dates keep moving and nobody is making any noise about what will fundamentally change on 31st anyway, I assume we might be directed to go to a different gate at customs or might need extra docs for driving abroad or for healthcare? But probably wouldn’t have driven anyway and have insurance with our bank in case of illness while travelling, so I presume it’s on them to sort anything out that needs doing differently in case of no deal/Brexit/whatever.

One of my friends' told me when she went to France in the summer at the Ferry port they went through passport control were seemingly deliberately taking their time, so we due to having a toddler we have decided not to go out of our way and go abroad until she is older.
