To have a list of deal breakers? JUST FOR FUN!

I'm very recently single so not anywhere near ready to mingle. I'm 48 and know what I want though. Thinking far into future dating any potential partner would have to meet certain criteria (my kids obviously) and certain things would be deal breakers. I couldn't date a racist for example. Probably not a smoker. I'd need to know their politics and views on Brexit 🤣
Just for fun what would your deal breakers be?
What questions would you ask?
It's all sounding a bit Rosie Project!

My list is so long it embarrasses me too much to post it.

AntiHop · 23/09/2019 08:47

Long finger nails. Yuk.

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 23/09/2019 08:53

Tattoos
Piercings
Children
Facial hair
Smoking
Drug taking
Leftist politics
Scruffy dresser
Overly invested in football
Bad with money
Stupidity

thecatsthecats · 23/09/2019 08:53

'Not a racist' is such a low bar!

Must be an animal lover. Indifference to or cruelty to animals is just no good for me.

If I could change one thing only about DH, I'd make him not a sports fan.

GinDaddy · 23/09/2019 08:55

@TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble got you - sounds like you need to go to accountancy firm's quarterly drinks, you'll find what you're looking for there Smile

earlynightneeded · 23/09/2019 08:56

No drug taking!!
Family man
Sensible with money
Preferably a non drinker or occasional drinker
Not homophobic or racist (quite common where I live)

Mine isn't too bad I don't think

recklessruby · 23/09/2019 08:57

Not liking kids.
Not liking animals.
Bad teeth/breath
Not showering much.
Racist.
Sexist.
Not caring about old people.
Hating tattoos/dyed hair/alternative culture.
Being homophobic.
Expecting me to go and watch him play football 😂.
Oh God no wonder I m single...

Sparklesocks · 23/09/2019 08:59

Short temper - lashing out when hurt rather than communicating themselves properly
Stingy - careful budgeting is sensible but overt tightness I can’t abide
Lack of self sufficiency - Someone who can’t look after themselves and needs a mum rather than a romantic partner

Sparklesocks · 23/09/2019 09:01

Also politically we need to be somewhat aligned, don’t need to agree on every issue but if their views are the complete opposite of mine and we fundamentally disagree then I can’t see it lasting.

Facial hair
Nail biter
Pony tail/man bun (if long hair, own it and rock it!)

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 23/09/2019 09:03

@GinDaddy- I have a hobby that's good for finding smart men. One will turn up. Wink

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 23/09/2019 09:04

Ah- messiness. Can't stand it!

Actaea · 23/09/2019 09:05

My only real deal breakers are the big ones like smoking, drugs, crime, sexual deviancy, etc. When I was single I’d have considered any reasonably attractive man who I hit it off with. Of course “reasonably attractive” in itself rules out a lot of things like obesity and bad teeth I suppose

wellitwasfuckingoneofyous · 23/09/2019 09:06

My list is embarrassingly impossible hence why I'm still single after 3 years of online dating.
No smokers, vapers, drug takers or alcohol drinkers.
No one who goes clubbing.
No tattoos.
Well spoken.
Well dressed.
Likes cats.
No kids but wants kids.
At least 5ft8.
Dark hair, eyes and skin tone.
Good job.
Lives local or willing to move to my area.
Must be funny.

BuildBuildings · 23/09/2019 09:08

So many but some petty ones....

Poor grammar, such as misuse of too / to
Doesn't tip
Misuse of the word ignorant

Alittleodd · 23/09/2019 09:09

I feel like some of these deal breakers are actually just the minimum bar for being a decent human being - if they're racist/sexist/homophobic etc I don't think we'd be sharing a meal let alone a bed.

My deal breaker sounds odd to some people but I couldn't be with someone who always needs to be "doing things" some of my friends are married to people who seem to never stop it's always house projects, massive lists of chores, family bike rides, days out, trips to eight separate shopping locations.... Even typing that makes me want to run away and hide in a darkened room.

I want to be a sappy cow and say my deal-breaker is "being anyone other than my husband" but a) I wouldn't turn down Jensen Ackles if he came knocking and b) I have marginally too much self respect to say something so mushy.

BlingADingDing · 23/09/2019 09:12

Reject if they have a quiff
Wear dungarees as a fashion statement
Grey slip on shoes with elastic sides
Long toe nails

PurpleWithRed · 23/09/2019 09:12

Mine are must-haves

  • treats me as an equal human being, in public and private. Willing to bow to my superior knowledge (when I have some) without feeling emasculated.
  • generous of spirit. Doesn’t always want his own way, takes turns, thinks volunteering is a nice thing to do
  • can laugh at himself and tell jokes about himself. Not a braggart or showoff
  • substantial. I like a tall, chunky man.
Pennypringles · 23/09/2019 09:14

I'm going to add own house, car, good teeth, not adverse to tattoos but dislike piercings, clever, well dressed, good job. I like facial hair, sports wouldn't be a deal breaker but any kind of obsession would. I would rather a few extra pounds than too skinny. No gym addict

Pennypringles · 23/09/2019 09:19

@Alittleodd good one! Their/there/they're! Shudders 🤣
@BuildBuildings that's what I mean. Just imagine agreeing to a meal out and finding out he's racist/sexist/homophobic. Makes my skin crawl

OP posts:
Emjai · 23/09/2019 09:23

I can see why you lot are single! 😂

ControversialFerret · 23/09/2019 09:32

Racism
Sexism and misogyny
Politically extreme
Smoking
Drugs
No sense of humour
Rude or short tempered
Excessive drinker
Poor hygiene
Dislikes animals

Not remotely bothered about fashion sense etc. More important to me that they can make me laugh, aren't nasty or rude or disrespectful and that they love my dogs.

Fallofrain · 23/09/2019 09:34

Must treat people kindly eg waiters, shop assistants

I couldnt abide by any cf eg complaining deliberately to get meals free etc

MaxNormal · 23/09/2019 09:39

No-one with children. No football fans. No Brexit voters. Happy to do 50% of the housework.
