Songs that aren’t even ‘sad’ but make you emotional?

Does anyone else find certain songs quite emotional for no particular reason?? I’m not talking about purposefully sad love songs.

Current one for me is Castle On The Hill by Ed Sheeran - it’s not even the most amazing song ever but literally gives me goose bumps and I feel myself welling up as I sing along in the car! Maybe it makes me nostalgic!!

Other one is Ocean Drive by Lighthouse family - makes me so sad!!

Anyone else?! Maybe it’s something to do with certain chords!

Annie's song always gets me.
Also, I ended up having a blub at work last week (thankfully I was alone!) because my Gran's favourite song came on the radio. Completely caught me off guard.
I miss that wee woman so much Smile

High by the Lighthouse Family. In fact, a lot of songs by the Lighthouse Family!! I absolutely love them, his voice is beautiful and the lyrics really resonate.

Wherever You Will Go by The Calling. He sings with such longing.

Forget It by Breaking Benjamin. This one isn't really well known, but he sings with such resignation to what ever has been done to him.

I never liked Twilight, couldn’t get to grips with it at all. But I once had the thought that Thousand Years would be a good funeral song and now can’t hear it without bawling my eyes out 🙄

Pigletthedog · 28/08/2019 18:52

Honestly??? The bloody twirlywoos theme tune. Blush

Weston14 · 28/08/2019 18:54

You're going to think I'm mad...

Really cheesy crap dance song from about 10 years ago. I know it's a remix of a 90s one but I was never a raver or into the original song when it was out. But there's something about the end of it that used to make me feel randomly so sad and nostalgic? I remember commenting on it to DP at the time.

@weston I can actually understand that!! Something slightly off key and sad about the music/singing even though it’s a dance track! Not mad at all!

@Pigletthedog Had to google it as don’t have kids so not up to speed on CBeebies but I can kind of see that - it’s quite a sweet, slightly sad sounding song!

Take That, Rule the World.

I'm really not a TT fan, but Rule the World gives me goosebumps and has me welling up.

It's not a sad song is it?? More of an anthemic, uplifting pop love song? Don't know why it gets to me.

Birdtablegreen · 28/08/2019 18:59

@miagerbies SAME about The Calling - reminds me of being a teen too. Same as ‘Our Lives’ by The Calling actually!!

Mine is Teardrop by Massive Attack. Whenever I hear it the the hairs on my arms stand on end and I feel so emotional but not sad if that makes sense

Rowenaravenclawsdiadem · 28/08/2019 19:01

Reach for the stars S Club 7. When children sing it.

ohmysoul · 28/08/2019 19:02

James - nothing but love,
Amazing Grace,
Silent Night (actually most Christmas songs), Anthony and the Johnsons - hope there's someone, this is me from the greatest showman soundtrack.

OnlyYellowRoses · 28/08/2019 19:03

Still in love with you by a band called skinny living.

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 28/08/2019 19:06

I well up at a lot of classical stuff, but with pop music, it's more about associations than anything else. I have to switch the radio off whenever No Tears Left to Cry by Ariana Grande comes on because it was playing in the vet's waiting room earlier this year while I was waiting to have a much-loved pet put to sleep. Now I think about him whenever I hear it and if it's the wrong time of the month, I'll be in floods.

MuseumOfIdiots · 28/08/2019 19:09

Strangely, the theme music to In The Night Garden.

I think it's because my sleep-deprived brain realised that the whole thing is a figment of Iggle Piggle's imagination because he's hopelessly lost at sea in the dark and has no friends with him. Am I over-thinking this?

Booboooo · 28/08/2019 19:09

Blame it on me d;ream!

TableDesk · 28/08/2019 19:10

The new Andy Grammar song - Jesus, I'm a bawling heap after the first bar. I just have to turn it off now, every time!

Birdtablegreen · 28/08/2019 19:10

@checking I know how you feel - had traumatic loss of pet last year and the Jess Glynn song ‘All I Have’ (I think that’s what it’s called!) was on in the car and I have to turn it off if it comes on the radio....

The land of make believe- Buck's Fizz
My dad used to sing it to me at bedtime "close your eyes little one" I watched it on YouTube a while ago and I burst into tears. Even thinking and typing about it now has given me goosebumps.

Rachelover40 · 28/08/2019 19:15

Five Hundred Miles - The Proclaimers

Kolo · 28/08/2019 19:17

Yes! There are certain songs, even if the lyrics aren’t sad, where the music just makes me overwhelmed and I cry. Embarrassingly, one of those is ‘angel eyes’ by wet wet wet. But only the verse, not the chorus. I can’t listen to ‘drugs don’t work’ unless I’ve got all day to myself to fall to pieces and put myself back again. Although that has incredibly sad lyrics too.

Kolo · 28/08/2019 19:18

@lardass88 yes!!!!

JesusHRooseveltChrist · 28/08/2019 19:21

"Sleeping Satellite" - Tasmin Archer.

This was released when I was really young. I don't know why it makes me tear up - maybe nostalgia? My dad always used to remind me how much I loved it as a toddler when it was on the radio when I was growing up. I heard it on the radio the other week for the first time in years and it choked me up.
