Songs that aren’t even ‘sad’ but make you emotional?

Does anyone else find certain songs quite emotional for no particular reason?? I’m not talking about purposefully sad love songs.

Current one for me is Castle On The Hill by Ed Sheeran - it’s not even the most amazing song ever but literally gives me goose bumps and I feel myself welling up as I sing along in the car! Maybe it makes me nostalgic!!

Other one is Ocean Drive by Lighthouse family - makes me so sad!!

Anyone else?! Maybe it’s something to do with certain chords!

I get this with songs, Gabrielle Aplin ‘Waking up Slow’ gets me, and Bob Marley ‘Redemption Song’...

Mother Dear by the divine comedy.

Bubsworth · 28/08/2019 19:49

Moon River always reminds me of my late Grandma and the way I found out it was her favourite English song. I'm welling up just thinking about it :(

Birdtablegreen · 28/08/2019 19:49

What’s that song that goes ‘Love is noise’ or something and there’s like an ‘oooh oooh’ singing in the background?? Something on this thread reminded me of that one too!

Iceblink Luck by the Cocteau Twins

Myfanwyprice · 28/08/2019 19:50

For me, It’s love at first sight by Kylie, used to sing it to the dc when they were babies, the lyrics really resonated as was hard work falling pregnant both times -

“I was tired of running out of luck
Thinkin' 'bout giving up, yeah
Didn't know what to do
Then there was you”

Gives me goosebumps just reading the lyrics!

Polyjuice · 28/08/2019 19:50

Weston and others who like the Utah Saints track - presumably you know the amazing Kate Bush cloudbusting track that was sampled (used recently tonsuch amazing effect in the handmaids tale).
I used to love the cheesy dance tune too Grin
My embarrassing one is Let It Go. When her voice soars I want to well up.
Was never like this before kids!!

karenbokaren · 28/08/2019 19:51

Redemption Song is actually very sad subject matter too though.

haverhill · 28/08/2019 19:51

Somewhere Beyond the Sea, originally by Bobby Darin.
It’s just lovely.

Polyjuice · 28/08/2019 19:51

Birdtablegreen · 28/08/2019 19:52

@Myfanwyprice. Oh that’s lovely!! I felt goose bumps reading that!

karenbokaren · 28/08/2019 19:52

DH, ds and I ALL cry at Let it go.

We'd better never go on a family outing to the Sistine chapel. Grin

jamoncrumpet · 28/08/2019 19:53

When I was a little girl 'Hello' by Lionel Ritchie used to make me feel very very sad. I told my mum about it and (I don't know how she kept a straight face) told me that next time we heard it on the radio in the car I could change the channel.

karenbokaren · 28/08/2019 19:54

DanielRicciardosSmile · 28/08/2019 19:54

@Elmashbu yes! Another vote for Running up That Hill.

No idea why, but Adele - Rolling in the Deep.

ThePolishWombat · 28/08/2019 19:55

“High” by The Lighthouse Family is on my list too!

And as of as it sounds, because it’s got a personal, emotional connection for me “Sexy And I Know It” by LMFAO! A friend and colleague of mine was know as the “class clown”, and that song was played at his funeral. Everyone in the crematorium was a mixture of tears and hysterical laughter because it just summed him up completely! So now when I hear it, I usually have a good giggle first, then cry because I remember I miss him

jamoncrumpet · 28/08/2019 19:56

Nowadays my unsad sad song is Leave Right Now by Will Young, which makes me think of my mum. She died in 2010 and she loved Will Young, which I used to tease her about mercilessly.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 28/08/2019 19:56

@karenbokaren if you ever do, be sure to let us all know so anyone who happens to be going can take ear defenders Grin

ChickenTikkaTellMeWhatsWrong · 28/08/2019 19:58

Don't Look Back in Anger - Oasis
Stick to your Guns - Bon Jovi
Don't Dream it's Over - Crowded House
Little Ole Wine Drinker - Dean Martin (Grandad's song, was played at his funeral)

Aberhonddu · 28/08/2019 19:58

The theme tune from Dr Zhivago, I think it's called Lara's song.
Daniel by Elton John
Sunshine on Leith by the Proclaimers.
Bridge over troubled water by Simon and Garfunkel
I think I'll be spending a few hours on You Tube tonight!

Cuppycakes · 28/08/2019 19:58

The Corries - Wild Mountain Thyme

Tinysarah1985 · 28/08/2019 19:59

Christina ricci- jar of hearts

lardass88 · 28/08/2019 19:59

Also "he ain't heavy.. he's my brother"
My dad and his brother used to sing it. Even more poignant when my uncle died and my dad lost his best friend as well as his brother. Whenever that song comes on it breaks my heart knowing the pain my dad has missing his brother 😢
