Songs that aren’t even ‘sad’ but make you emotional?

Does anyone else find certain songs quite emotional for no particular reason?? I’m not talking about purposefully sad love songs.

Current one for me is Castle On The Hill by Ed Sheeran - it’s not even the most amazing song ever but literally gives me goose bumps and I feel myself welling up as I sing along in the car! Maybe it makes me nostalgic!!

Other one is Ocean Drive by Lighthouse family - makes me so sad!!

Anyone else?! Maybe it’s something to do with certain chords!

@MuseumOfIdiots and @BrieAndChilli same here re poor lost Iggle Piggle,
Also 'Go to sleep' By Mo from Tee and Mo
"go to sleep my baby
I'll be here, when you wake
Moon is bright up in the sky,
Stars are shining bright,
For you tonight
Dreams will come and fill your head
Safe here in your bed,
by my side
Listen to your mummy
My baby, go to sleep". Even putting that on I'm daftly welling up, sing it every night!

I await being sued by BBC for performers licence now!

Theme tune for In the Night Garden (played it at the end of my baby son's funeral - all instrumental apart from "Goodnight Iggle Piggle" right at the end). CBeebies was hard a few years later once i had my rainbow baby!

Also, sorry another baby one. I always think Silent Night reminds me of that lovely quiet bit after giving birth when its just you and your partner all alone and peaceful in the labour room, cuddling the baby before you go down to the ward, watching the sun come up, and no one yet knows the amazing thing that has happened in the night...

Pink a million dreams reminds me of my baby daughter as when I was pregnant it was playing everywhere and I always cried at it in the car driving to work .... lesky pregnancy hormones

ElsaMars · 28/08/2019 20:20

For the first time in forever from Frozen always makes me really weepy, no idea why. Once took my eldest DD to a Frozen singalong and had to stifle my (weird) crying!

ChickenTikkaTellMeWhatsWrong · 28/08/2019 20:21

The tune from Up!!!! 😭😭😭

Notallthat · 28/08/2019 20:22

Songbird - Oasis
What is love - Haddaway

Helen4790 · 28/08/2019 20:22

@megletthesecond

Is it 'Prayer in C' by Lilly Wood & Robin Schulz? I find that one emotional too

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 28/08/2019 20:23

Well, since we've strayed from the original brief of 'songs that you find sad even though they're not', I'm going to say Wichita Lineman by Glenn Campbell, especially since he passed away. He had such an unassumingly beautiful voice without any of the tiresome vocal gymnastics male singers employ nowadays, and the way he states "I hear you singing in the wire" gets me every time.

And Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues.

And The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics.

skeemee · 28/08/2019 20:24

Fields of Gold - Sting
Run - Snow patrol

Probablygreen · 28/08/2019 20:26

Slipping through my fingers by ABBA. I always used to laugh at my mum for crying whenever it came on but I sang it to my lovely little 2 year old daughter the other day and couldn’t get past “I’m glad whenever I can share her laughter, that funny little girl” 😭

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 28/08/2019 20:28

I sob every time I hear 'Nana Was a Suffragette', of all things!

decisionsindecisions · 28/08/2019 20:29

OP - Do you mean Love is Noise by The Verve?

BigFatLiar · 28/08/2019 20:30

Lots of songs but to start:
Living Years - Mike & the mechanics
Listen to the pouring rain - Jose Feliciano
Take my breath away - Berlin

decisionsindecisions · 28/08/2019 20:32

I like Adagio for Strings, both the Tiesto version and the Samuel Barber version

karenbokaren · 28/08/2019 20:33

Tiesto?! Grin😂

DanielRicciardosSmile · 28/08/2019 20:34

On a similar tack to ITNG, Waybuloo would have me sobbing like a baby.

TitianaTitsling · 28/08/2019 20:35

Also 'rockabye' by Clean Bandit 'she told him your life, ain't gonna be nothing like my life, you're gonna grow and have a good life' have ended up crying in the car to this!

karenbokaren · 28/08/2019 20:35

Having said that, Layo and Bushwakka's Love Story made me bawl in clubs many a time.

StealthPolarBear · 28/08/2019 20:35

Up the junction by squeeze. I suppose it is sad, about a relationship breakdown because of drinking and gambling but I well up at the line "little kicks inside her" every time.

StealthPolarBear · 28/08/2019 20:35

And living years, yes. The bit about the shotgun behind the door, use it only in emergencies.

StealthPolarBear · 28/08/2019 20:36

Right here right now by Jesus Jones. Apparently it's not about the fall of the Berlin wall but it damn well should be

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 28/08/2019 20:38

Adagio for strings is possibly the most deliberately sad piece of music ever composed... although being contrary, I feel emotionally manipulated by it and refuse to cry Grin

The Lark Ascending usually sets me off though.

DodgeRainClouds · 28/08/2019 20:39

The bloody theme tune to Topsy and Tim!! What the hell is that about 😫

Hopefullysmart · 28/08/2019 20:39

@Booboooo yes Blame It on me! I adore it Smile
