Songs that aren’t even ‘sad’ but make you emotional?

Does anyone else find certain songs quite emotional for no particular reason?? I’m not talking about purposefully sad love songs.

Current one for me is Castle On The Hill by Ed Sheeran - it’s not even the most amazing song ever but literally gives me goose bumps and I feel myself welling up as I sing along in the car! Maybe it makes me nostalgic!!

Other one is Ocean Drive by Lighthouse family - makes me so sad!!

Anyone else?! Maybe it’s something to do with certain chords!

Feed the birds in Mary Poppins ! Wah!

lardass88 · 28/08/2019 19:22

@Kolo I may have to watch it on YouTube now

Birdtablegreen · 28/08/2019 19:23

Mr Brightside by the killers. Brings back memories of good times which are gone. Makes me sad, even though i love the song

ProlificLurker · 28/08/2019 19:24

Puff the Magic Dragon

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 28/08/2019 19:25

Wings - Little Mix

Makes me well up. Go figure 🤷🏿‍♀️

Notmybloodymonkeys · 28/08/2019 19:25

Broken Land by the Adventures. Beautiful song.

Kolo · 28/08/2019 19:25

Also, listening to the end credits of ‘out of africa’ make me blub. No sad lyrics (no lyrics at all) but it’s just overwhelming music.

Honeyroar · 28/08/2019 19:27

I agree re Rule The World @MrsWednesdayTeatime. We had it for our wedding song. The bloody DJ thought we were Take That fans and kept playing their others - I don't like many of them. I think it would be a good funeral song too!

Kolo · 28/08/2019 19:28

@Birdtablegreen what an amazing thread. I’m loading up my playlist as I type!!

@lardass88 I’m joining you.

@ProlificLurker that song slays. Makes me bawl. It’s so beautiful but heartbreaking. I played it to my kids a couple of years ago and my youngest burst into tears saying “I don’t want you to die, mummy”. Right.in.the.heart.

lardass88 · 28/08/2019 19:28

Oh and "down under" by men at work. It was playing on the radio when my son told me Steve Irwin had died. Such a tragic thing to happen.

EmeraldShamrock · 28/08/2019 19:31

Somewhere over the rainbow. It always makes me feel emotional.

Birdtablegreen · 28/08/2019 19:32

@Kolo me too!!!

The Dubliners song, Child of simplicity the one line he looks like all the others but they 0know he is not the same.
Reminds me of my own DC in social settings. Sad

PickleJam · 28/08/2019 19:35

Nightswimming by REM. Not inherently sad as such, but makes me weep like a baby.

TrainspottingWelsh · 28/08/2019 19:36

Twisted by skunk Anansie
Always Bon Jovi
Because the first time I heard both the lyrics resonated with the situations I was in so now they remind me of those really sad situations.

There’s also a nursery style song that I’m not even going to name as I can’t do so without typing the lines that tear me up. It reminds me of a loss, and even the tinny tune without lyrics on a kids plastic toy isn’t something I can listen to.

keepingbees · 28/08/2019 19:38

So many of these mentioned! I thought I was weird Grin

I get the Iggle Piggle thing, the bit at the end where they say "it's time to go" sounds like he's about to die, then the sad music...

World Hold On, was released around the same time as Utah Saints one which I also get the sad feeling from.

The Power Of Love Christmas song, both the new and old versions.

Christmas lights by Coldplay.

Only You, it's a on an advert at the moment makes me feel sad.

Come On Eileen, no idea why!

Birdtablegreen · 28/08/2019 19:39

@TrainspottingWelsh it’s not ‘how much is that doggy’ is it?? (Call me mad if not!)

Candy by Paulo nutini. Don't even know why but it gets me every time.

karenbokaren · 28/08/2019 19:42

Let it be. Proper son at that one.

Athrea Franklin's Amazing Grace.

In the near gut garden music makes me and dh cry.

Laughing my head off at the thought of someone crying over 500 Miles!! Grin

PickleJam · 28/08/2019 19:42

@EmeraldShamrock Yes! My parents had that on vinyl. Haven't heard it in years but my gosh I could sing it now, word for word.

amusedbush · 28/08/2019 19:43

Champagne Supernova. I’m not even an Oasis fan but it makes me weirdly emotional!

karenbokaren · 28/08/2019 19:43

The sample from the Utah saints song is from Kate Bushes Cloudbusting. Which makes me cry!

karenbokaren · 28/08/2019 19:44

Yes Champagne Supernova makes me cry too.

And Trenchtown Rock.

Elmashbu · 28/08/2019 19:46

Oh and another Kate Bush one - running up that hill

I do find the lyrics in that one to be very powerful
