Songs that aren’t even ‘sad’ but make you emotional?

Does anyone else find certain songs quite emotional for no particular reason?? I’m not talking about purposefully sad love songs.

Current one for me is Castle On The Hill by Ed Sheeran - it’s not even the most amazing song ever but literally gives me goose bumps and I feel myself welling up as I sing along in the car! Maybe it makes me nostalgic!!

Other one is Ocean Drive by Lighthouse family - makes me so sad!!

Anyone else?! Maybe it’s something to do with certain chords!

Elton John - I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues - "time on my hands could be time spent with you"

..we're coming to the edge, running on the water,
Coming to the fore, your sons and daughters..."

Yep, me too...…

'Let all the dreamers wake the nation' I'm welling up just thinking of this 'anthem.' Yes I know it was the theme tune to the film as previously detailed.

For some reason, the theme from the HBO series "Band of brothers" always has me in tears.

Perfect Day - Lou Reed

😭

@lardass88 the Buck’s Fizz song gets me too, I only have to hear a few seconds of it and I’m instantly transported back to my childhood.

More recently, when I was pregnant I couldn’t listen to Lola’s Theme by the Shapeshifters without bawling in the car... because the lyrics are so lovely and sound like they’ve been written about a child (Googled it afterwards and turns out it’s written about his wife, but whatever)

Weston14 · 02/09/2019 04:15

@HeartshapedFox Lola's Theme reminds me of being in the car with a little DS on the school run as our local radio station used to hammer it. Much like a PP said about their's, my DS is now about 6 foot and with a beard! I feel ancient

Jesaminecollins · 02/09/2019 04:44

In My Life by the Beatles reminds me of my own life.

'at the end of a lovely day' wasn't even invented when my dc were little. Oh my! It touches all the truth of a journey and, like a hymn (again), uses the classical allegory of day and night.

I was going to say that one too:

The time has come to say "Goodnight"
To say "Sleep tight" 'til the morning light
Oh, the time has come to say "Goodnight"
It's the end of a lovely day

We've had so much fun today
Tomorrow's just a dream away
And now it's time to say "Goodnight"
At the end of a lovely day

The lyrics are so simple, but just always got me there when DS was little. I think, for me, it's the carefree nature of life at that age - and the paradox that there is an endless supply of fun days to be had; yet, at the same time, the days of innocence in their tiny, snug, safe world - and their complete and utter dependence and reliance on you for everything - are very short. My DS is still young, but already, he's long past that stage now.

In short, I think my mind automatically juxtaposed it with the amazingly happy-sad 'Slipping Through My Fingers'.

DarkcafeDetroit68 · 02/09/2019 06:27

The last time I saw Richard was Detroit in '68...

Jesaminecollins · 02/09/2019 06:33

This song reminds me of my life at the moment strangely enough

Jesaminecollins · 02/09/2019 06:40

There are so many songs that I can recall at different times in my life that I feel conected to - this one is an old favorite

The Whole Of The Moon by The Waterboys.

milliefiori · 02/09/2019 09:17

River by Joni Mitchell. That makes my heart ache.

JoyTurner · 02/09/2019 09:36

Oh two more, Foxes- Home and Mumford and Sons, I will wait.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 02/09/2019 09:42

Not a song, but the theme from 'A Summer Place' always makes me cry - brings back so many childhood memories.

Merry Christmas Darling by the Carpenters - her voice does it!
Time to say Goodbye by Andrea Boccelli and Sarah Brightman
Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac

Crinklesmile · 02/09/2019 10:15

Heroes by Peter Gabriel. Heaving, pouring tears 😭

Schwibble · 02/09/2019 10:24

Everley Brothers - Cathy's Clown

Rozalla - Everybody's Free - memories of a time long gone, of my carefree teenage years and of when clubbing and London was completely different to how it is now.

Mary J Blige - No More Pain - played on the radio just before a dear friend's funeral, she had lost her battle with breast cancer. It was if she was telling me, she was no longer in pain.

strongthighedbargeman · 02/09/2019 13:31
