Songs that aren’t even ‘sad’ but make you emotional?

Does anyone else find certain songs quite emotional for no particular reason?? I’m not talking about purposefully sad love songs.

Current one for me is Castle On The Hill by Ed Sheeran - it’s not even the most amazing song ever but literally gives me goose bumps and I feel myself welling up as I sing along in the car! Maybe it makes me nostalgic!!

Other one is Ocean Drive by Lighthouse family - makes me so sad!!

Anyone else?! Maybe it’s something to do with certain chords!

Elbow- One day like this

It's not sad but my god it reminds me of hungover, sunshine filled days long gone 😭

Seven Years by Lukas Graham makes me cry every time.

The lines “Most of my boys are with me/Some are still out seeking glory/and some I had to leave behind/My brother I’m still sorry”.

Gets me right in the feels.

Second Britney Spears Everytime, still remember the video to that.

-Beyond the Blue Horizon

This is a bit obscure. It used to feature in a supermarket tv advert many years ago and I loved it. I downloaded it about 12 years ago to rediscover it and shortly after a work colleague was killed in a motorcycle accident. When I listened to the song shortly after hearing this news the song to me was about dying and passing over as it were. I cry every single time I hear it since. I cannot break the association even though the words of the song a positive and happy and about someone turning their life around. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I completely traumatised the kids the other day over iggle piggle
They are 8,11 and 12 nod so it’s been a long time since it was watched in our house but we were talking about it and I babbled in about how some people think it’s his imagination helping him with being lost at sea and about to die etc, looked up to all of them looking wide eyed at me. Oops Blush

Shutupseaguls · 28/08/2019 20:01

This is an odd one but this song makes me so teary. I think it's because I used to listen to it daydreaming about being away from the 10 year abusive relationship I was in at the time.

karenbokaren · 28/08/2019 20:02

Perri! Ffs.

Tinysarah1985 · 28/08/2019 20:02

Backstreet boys- shape of my heart
Luther vandros- dance with my father

HerLadySheep · 28/08/2019 20:04

Anchorage by Michelle Shocked, specifically the line "I think I'm a housewife" to me it's her realisation that she's no longer a person, she's a housewife 😭

Tinysarah1985 · 28/08/2019 20:05

Ahh yes, brain block, Christina perri

megletthesecond · 28/08/2019 20:05

I can't remember the name. It's a dance song from 5/6 years ago. I think the lyrics are a woman angry at God. It's driving me mad trying to remember it.

CalmFizz · 28/08/2019 20:06

BirdTable that’s love is noise by Richard Ashcroft of the verve (drugs don’t work) fame.

HazelBite · 28/08/2019 20:07

"As you are" by the Rag n Bone Man, such beautiful simple words and he has that lovely deep soulful voice.
DH and I had a celebration for our Ruby Wedding, and it was played,
Chokes me up every time

ForalltheSaints · 28/08/2019 20:08

The Genesis album "Selling England by the Pound' as a whole.

FatherBuzzCagney · 28/08/2019 20:09

Faith by George Michael. It was played at the funeral of a lovely friend who had committed suicide and it made everyone cry. Even more than ten years later I still cry when I hear the first lines of it.

😂😂😂
Because she's overcoming adversity and kicking ass! She doesn't need the man anymore and realises he is weak. Makes me emotional.

Shutupseaguls · 28/08/2019 20:12

Lola's theme makes me tear up as it reminds me of dancing around trying to get my oldest to sleep.

Evenesence bring me to life

Green day time of your life

Always look on the bright side of life - my dad used to walk around singing it all the time.

tirednhungry247 · 28/08/2019 20:12

Mumford & Sons - Wildheart

Please listen to it, the words are beautiful. They just make my eyes well up.

Also

Oasis - Talk Tonight

tirednhungry247 · 28/08/2019 20:13

Anne Marie - Peak (acoustic)

karenbokaren · 28/08/2019 20:14

@doadeer fair enough Grin

Shadow1986 · 28/08/2019 20:14

Gary Barlow - Let me go. Gets me in tears every time. It’s quite an upbeat song but is meaningful. And sometimes Rule The World, must be something with his voice.

karenbokaren · 28/08/2019 20:15

Anything by David Bowie now he's gone.

Starman particulary. Fuuuuck. SadSadSad

doadeer · 28/08/2019 20:15
