AIBU to think dogs should be banned from parks?

They're everywhere, crapping, barking, smelling one another's arses and fighting. Then there are those jumpy ones trying to get a lick of a child's face before bounding off to piss up the nearest tree. Not everyone likes dogs and they spoil the park for kids. I'd love to see them allocated their own area away from the rest of the park where like minded dog owners can all hangout together picking up their pet's turds and convincing each other that "he's usually so gentle". AIBU??

I agree with you, but I might be the only one

SauvignonBlanche · 26/08/2019 23:04

Yes, YABU

ClaraThePigeon · 26/08/2019 23:04

YABU. Your kids probably annoy me as much as dogs annoy you.

ClaraThePigeon · 26/08/2019 23:06

There does need to be greater enforcement of fines for people who don't pick up their dog's mess though.

Bellasblankexpression · 26/08/2019 23:06

I think a lot of people should be banned from parks, then maybe there wouldn’t be so much litter/damage/antisocial behaviour.
And don’t get me started on screaming kids who are left to run riot or weave around people on bikes and scooters. (The well behaved ones are fine!).

To be honest I’ve never come across any problems with dogs in our local parks, the people are far worse!

HappyHammy · 26/08/2019 23:07

I agree too. There should be dog areas, but the least owners should do is keep dogs under control, pick up the plops, abide by the local rules and appreciate not everyone likes dogs. This thread never goes well.

recrudescence · 26/08/2019 23:07

You could always just stay at home with your children.

IncrediblySadToo · 26/08/2019 23:08

Of course you’re being unreasonable - parks are for everyone to enjoy, not just Tarquinius & Jacinda.

ClaraThePigeon · 26/08/2019 23:08

And also for people who drop litter.

Kplpandd · 26/08/2019 23:09

I love dogs! But I do believe that if they don't go back to their owners when called then they shouldn't be off the lead.

My daughter is terrified of dogs after one ran up to her and pushed her over in a park. I'm still working on her as I'd like to own a dog again when she's older x

MustardScreams · 26/08/2019 23:10

I’d rather be surrounded by dogs than other people’s children. Especially the ones with crap parents who don’t actually do any parenting.

LiveInAHidingPlace · 26/08/2019 23:10

People need to control their dogs better.

But people also need to control their children better.

Swings and roundabouts, quite literally.

Tillygetsit · 26/08/2019 23:10

Tut and on National Dog Day too! I'd rather have a park full of dogs than fretful toddlers. (May have taken both to park today and know which one had a tantrum(

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 26/08/2019 23:10

I see where you're coming from but its harsh on sensible dog owners

I thought most dog attacks were from dogs known to the child eg grandparents

There should be more consequences for dog owners who let their dogs run over peoples picnics, jump up on people and who dont clean up after their dogs.

Picklypickles · 26/08/2019 23:10

Not from all parks no, but from childrens playgrounds yes.

1stmonkey · 26/08/2019 23:10

Not sure where you live but where we are (south coast) we have parks where it's clearly sign posted that "dogs are not permitted", usually in childrens play areas. Had assumed that everywhere was like that.
As for open parks, those ones that are essentially huge open fields, well yabu. If you can't cope with other people (and their dogs) using public spaces, i suggest you go elsewhere. It's not like there are a shortage of places you can sit and be grumpy with the world.

Drogosnextwife · 26/08/2019 23:12

I agree with you, and I own a dog. Some dog owners are self indulgent twats.

confusedandemployed · 26/08/2019 23:12

YABU. It's not dogs that are the problem, it's irresponsible owners. And children.

britinnyc · 26/08/2019 23:12

I don't live in the UK anymore and am always shocked that dogs are off the lead in the park, where I live (US) they must be on the lead at all times unless they are in a designated dog area. Some people do let them off but you risk a fine and the signs are very clear that it is not allowed. Much better. Can't imagine having dogs running everywhere when my kids were younger and we spent a lot of time in the park

Buddytheelf85 · 26/08/2019 23:13

YABU.

Why is there always a thread on AIBU saying ‘AIBU to think [insert something totally inoffensive] should be banned?’

Bellasblankexpression · 26/08/2019 23:13

I wonder if the difference is that I live in an area where the council is REALLY hot in keeping dogs on leads in designated areas/ dog fouling etc.

Shame we aren’t as hot on policing antisocial behaviour but you can’t have everything. People who walk along playing their terrible music insanely loudly on a speaker or phone have a special place in hell reserved for them.

TrainspottingWelsh · 26/08/2019 23:16

Yanbu op, and I’m delighted to read such an eloquent and balanced post. Not at all entitled to think the world should revolve around your narrow minded stereotype that all dog owners have badly controlled dogs and leave shit everywhere. And not a hint that you might be ridiculous.

Genuinely I think we should have wanker zones, that way all the precious parents and irresponsible dog owners, with their out of control charges and shared sense of entitlement could all shriek at each other. And the rest of us, dog owners and those who aren’t, could share the rest of the park safe in the knowledge that all the ridiculous and inconsiderate twats were elsewhere.

CherryPavlova · 26/08/2019 23:17

Children and dogs are best separated. The answer is not to ban either but to have safe areas - a fenced play park where dogs are not permitted, so no poo in the sand or scared children and a child free dog area where beasts are not approached by children whose patents fail to teach them common sense.

user1473878824 · 26/08/2019 23:19

I don’t even like dogs and think you’re being ridiculous.
