AIBU to think dogs should be banned from parks?

They're everywhere, crapping, barking, smelling one another's arses and fighting. Then there are those jumpy ones trying to get a lick of a child's face before bounding off to piss up the nearest tree. Not everyone likes dogs and they spoil the park for kids. I'd love to see them allocated their own area away from the rest of the park where like minded dog owners can all hangout together picking up their pet's turds and convincing each other that "he's usually so gentle". AIBU??

Nah. Dogs before sprogs.

SomeAfternoonDelight · 26/08/2019 23:27

For for fuck sake.

Our local park has fenced-off children’s area with no dogs allowed and the rest is a free for all, and I think that’s fair. I walk my little dog there most days off lead and the only time we have any issues are when feral children chase her or grab at her. I recall her and put her on lead now when passing some families. But to be honest we’re usually there early in the morning and it’s mostly dog walkers anyway. She has friends she meets and plays zoomies with.

Parks are for everyone, not just children (who should be taught how to behave around dogs anyway and not be approaching dogs they don’t know, grr!). For me it goes without saying dogs should have good recall and owners should pick up after them - to that end there should be bins available and fenced off dog training areas too, though.

TimeWastingButFun · 26/08/2019 23:30

Well behaved dogs are fine.

DontCallMeShitley · 26/08/2019 23:32

I think a lot of people should be banned from parks.

Drunks, druggies, cyclists bombing along the footpaths, skateboarders and anyone on wheels of any size, yobs and muggers...

What should also be banned are those extending leads when people walk their dogs on them at full stretch and trip people up or let them run into traffic/across roads in front of cars on the bloody lead so that you drive into it.

A few feet on a lead is OK but 100 yards is not. Not banning dogs but banning idiot owners would be a step in the right direction, the ones that let the dogs run amock. Same with children.

While dog shit is annoying, I've unfortunately had my fair share on the buggy or scooter wheels, it's (as always) the few who spoil it for the rest. Most dog owners I have come across in our local parks are lovely. A few are troglodytes who have unfortunately passed on their troglodyte ways to their hounds, but much can be the same said about some parents.

You shouldn't punish the many because of the few.

stucknoue · 26/08/2019 23:36

Well for 9 months of the year we (dog walkers) make up 95% of the parks clientele here when I walk mine, some kids with dogs I admit. There's a handful of dogless older people taking in a lap of the park but they tend to like to talk to the dogs. There's 4 dog free areas fully fenced, play areas, gym area and a picnic area. It's about 4 square km, I've never seen a non dog owner in the top section since the demise of the pokeman go craze!

stucknoue · 26/08/2019 23:39

Ps there is a fair amount of "dog poo" especially in the wooded part but could be foxes, place is over run with them.

Tchalla · 26/08/2019 23:39

Love dogs but I agree.

Some people need to control their dogs better.

Some people need to control their children better (as pointed out by PP).

However, only one of the two can maim someone.

Kaddm · 26/08/2019 23:42

Yes there should be separate dog areas and also areas where dogs must be on a lead. I have a dog and I have to make sure I don’t step in dog shit that others have left!!

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 26/08/2019 23:42

Yes a lovely fenced off part for dogs where no-one can smash glass, throw litter, drop bits of food, kick balls, leave needles, or anything else that is a risk to the dogs would be great.

helacells · 26/08/2019 23:45

YANBU that's why I love the states where they have strict leash laws. If you see a dog off it's lead one phone call to animal county and it's picked up. Why don't you lot have dog only parks like here?

frami · 26/08/2019 23:47

We have dog free areas in our park and as a dog owner I am fully supportive of this. However, ]every hot day, including today you will find that family who insist on having a picnic in the dog walking area and then get uptight when dogs run up to the them.

Agree - I dislike dogs so why they should have free reign to piss poo and roam free in park areas that my tax pays for I have no idea. In agreement of dog tax and dog free areas in public places.

Fuma · 26/08/2019 23:50

Why is there always a significant cohort of people on these threads who equate children with dogs? Children are members of human society, not animals that some humans choose to impose on said society with varying degrees of inconvenience to other members of the society itself.

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 26/08/2019 23:52

I am with at @WTF0ver - have 1 child (couldn’t have any more) and 3 dogs. Much prefer my dogs over children, as they are much better behaved, more obedient and quieter.
Would love most venues to be dogs only to keep cyclists and children out!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 26/08/2019 23:53

Where i live dogs are banned from childrens playground. We have a traffic light system in local parks / green spaces too. Red- no dogs. Amber- dogs on leads. Green- dogs allowed off lead. It works.

AnnaFiveTowns · 26/08/2019 23:54

So what if children are human? Some people prefer dogs to humans. Each to their own.

ClaraThePigeon · 26/08/2019 23:54

not animals that some humans choose to impose on said society with varying degrees of inconvenience to other members of the society itself.

Sounds a lot like children.

GoosetheCat · 26/08/2019 23:54

@WTF0ver 😂

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 26/08/2019 23:55

@helacells

Strict leash laws & shite gun laws 😂
You wont get bit by a dog but you may get shot by a mass shooter or hey even the cops.

AnnaFiveTowns · 26/08/2019 23:55

YABU

helpmeiamatoad · 26/08/2019 23:57

I’d rather ban children! From all public spaces! They make a lot more mess and noise than any dog!
