AIBU to think dogs should be banned from parks?

They're everywhere, crapping, barking, smelling one another's arses and fighting. Then there are those jumpy ones trying to get a lick of a child's face before bounding off to piss up the nearest tree. Not everyone likes dogs and they spoil the park for kids. I'd love to see them allocated their own area away from the rest of the park where like minded dog owners can all hangout together picking up their pet's turds and convincing each other that "he's usually so gentle". AIBU??

I don''t particularly like dogs, nor little children mind, but yabu completely ridiculous.

wtf19 · 27/08/2019 02:42

I think some people might be getting muddled up
Assuming OP is from the uk then parks are playgrounds for kids
If from US etc then parks are usually just benches and flowers etc a nice walk

Olderthangoogle · 27/08/2019 02:51

We probably need special dog parks like they have the the US. But where else can people walk dogs? We need to be realistic.

Seahorseshoe · 27/08/2019 02:58

Yanbu. We keep seeing abandoned, full poop bags? Who does that? We were at a beautiful beach in Cornwall today, 4 bags of dog crap we counted, on a short walk. It's worse than just leaving the poo, poo in plastic bags. Also 3 dogs fighting on a different beach, it was vicious, toddlers feet away, the owners start with "don't worry, he won't hurt you" - yeah right, mystic Meg.

YABVVVU - it’s eejits that don’t know how to behave & keep the creatures they’re responsible for minding under control that need banning from parks; & in the main that seems to be people with children rather than dogs & their humans. For example the feckers who seem to think their offspring chasing birds is charming & thus to be encouraged, rather than an act of cruelty to animals. And no, madam, it’s not a “bad goose” for trying to bite your child, they can be mardy articles, but that was absolutely self-defence.

My closest park has a large grassy area & the children’s playground as dog-free areas; then as well as being welcome to bop about the rest of the park (though don’t think they’re really meant to go on the tennis courts or football pitch) they’ve an area of their own for off-lead play. It’s always been a v popular park with dog owners, partly because while dogs have their own space (grassy area for humans was first fenced off when I was about 4 I think, dog area was there before that) there’s no suggestion they shouldn’t be out enjoying the rest of the park (bar the human-only spaces) as well.

Oh & for the record I’m a total cat person...

I think children spoil the park for dogs and should be allocated their own area away from the rest of the park!

goodgirlinchachaheels · 27/08/2019 10:59

I pay enough on council tax to be able to use the park for my dog, thank you. (Btw, she is very well-behaved and brilliant with children).

Itsjustmee · 27/08/2019 11:10

I have visited the states quite a lot and I love it that they have doggy parks and beaches specifically for dogs . I wish they had this in the uk
I’m a dog owner and lover and while my very big dogs are very well behaved and never ever go up to people ( they just aren’t interested in other people ) there is always one person or kid that shrieks and kicks up a fuss if my dog just walks pass them
I just ignore them and they look pretty stupid as my dog walks on not paying them any interest at all

Strugglingtodomybest · 27/08/2019 11:11

Grow up.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 27/08/2019 11:13

Lots of dogs are perfectly well trained and their owners are responsible. Maybe ban the children from parks instead?

And as for @Allthebiscuits complaints that dogs are barking and smelling each other, that’s normal dog behaviour. Get a grip.

Whosorrynow · 27/08/2019 11:19

I agree there are too many dogs, it feels like the whole of the outdoors is just one big dogs toilet
Being a dog owner entails being a worshipper of dog excrement, as the creature crouches you delightedly get ready to catch the product and then you walk home swinging your little bag full of fecal bonbons
Erghh why would anyone want to have a dog 😩

Munchietime · 27/08/2019 11:19

I took my dog to the park at 7am this morning before it got too hot.

The park was disgusting. Rubbish everywhere. Discarded food wrappers, empty bottles and loads of those little silver canisters. Plus someone had scattered mouldy bread everywhere. Probably to feed the birds but it’s encourages rats.

I pick up after my dog - she leaves far less mess than humans.

LaLoba · 27/08/2019 11:21

There’s a lovely stretch of coastline near to me that’s got a very popular beach. The beach next to the car park bans dogs, so we walk about a mile through woodland to take our dogs to the (pretty much empty, even in summer) beach where they are allowed.
At least, that’s what considerate dog owners do. The antisocial ones, who don’t pick up poo and control their dogs, just go to the “no dogs” beach anyway, because they’re antisocial and don’t care about a ban.

Suits me, I get a lovely quiet beach with only well behaved dogs and no uncontrolled children on it.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 27/08/2019 11:23

Yanbu. I hate everything about dogs and thanks to twattish dog owners, who don't control their hideous animals, so does ds.

GertrudeCB · 27/08/2019 11:25

YABU.
I pay my council tax so I will use the public parks with my dog. However I keep him on a lead. Unlike the children on scooters who crash into anybody whilst their parents play on phones.

Beccaishere · 27/08/2019 11:26

Unfortunately it’s the ‘bad dog owners’ that ruin it for the good ones! I have a dog that is kept on the lead at all times as 1, she loves people and wants to lick them to pieces, and I totally understand not everyone wants dog kisses, and there are some people who are terrified of dogs so I wouldn’t want to upset anyone or ruin a childs day because my dog decided that they looked like they need a kiss! (My child was terrified of dogs so I totally understand the fear factor)
2, my dog has been attacked 3 times by other dogs off leads! My poor baby was terrified and didn’t attack back instead screamed like a piglet! She is now unsure of dogs herself she don’t mind a hello but mostly she isn’t interested in dogs at all! It really bothers me when a loose dog won’t leave my dog alone! The ‘oh he is friendly’ really grates me as you can see my dog doesn’t want to know and is backing herself away from yours and hiding behind me! The amount of times my dog has run around me in circles so I am wrapped in a dog lead cause she wants to gets away I have lost count on!
I wish dogs were kept on leads at all times except in certain fenced off areas, then I wouldn’t have to worry when I take my son to the park and keep watch of a child in the play area and watching for approaching dogs!

CalamityJune · 27/08/2019 11:26

I got water thrown at me by some young boys recently whilst jogging the park. Maybe children should be banned from parks?

Whosorrynow · 27/08/2019 11:28

I view dogs as important companion animals to humans, I'm in favour of well behaved dogs and responsible dog owners.
I am very nervous about large powerful dogs no matter how well behaved the dog is, and no matter how responsible the owners.
I think we need better legislation and controls around dog ownership for the sake of dogs and their owners and the people who prefer to minimise their contact with dogs.

BossAssBitch · 27/08/2019 11:29

YABU

Screaming, screeching, head ache inducing brats, however, they should be banned.

PookieDo · 27/08/2019 11:30

Your kids leave litter in the park that my dog can eat and get sick
My dog is on a lead and doesn’t have anything to do with play equipment. He just wants to walk on the grass
He doesn’t shriek and scream either

Whosorrynow · 27/08/2019 11:32

Yes humans pay council tax but dogs don't pay council tax, why should they have the right to enjoy human society the parks and open spaces but no responsibility to pay for it?

the standard retort is 'well I don't like children making a nuisance of themselves either' but children for the most part will grow up to become productive members of society whereas a dog is only ever a kind of living toy that it's owner chooses to have for his or her own self indulgence.

Surfskatefamily · 27/08/2019 11:34

Thankfully there are some parks which are dog free and some beaches that are dog free near me. I agree some spaces should be specifically dog friendly and some not to keep everyone hapy

Helix1244 · 27/08/2019 11:40

Yanbu some owners let the dog crap

  • on the path to the school
  • on cycle paths
  • on the football field
  • on the path outside the park

Until some owners have more empathy for kids/adults having to play in some of these areas then the dogs should banned or at least kept on a lead.
Or they tie the dog to the kids' park railings!!

The owners who conveniently let their dog get really far away so you 'dont know' about the poo, well bear in mind that people around you know that is what you are doing and you will find yourself identified on SM. Or photographed so will get a fine.

scarbados · 27/08/2019 11:42

There are notices in our parks and along the sea front reminding people to pick up their dogs' poo, which are in the main taken heed of. Sadly there are no notices asking filthy disgusting people not leave their offsprings' shitty nappies on the beach or on benches.

PookieDo · 27/08/2019 11:42

Animals are not objects they are living breathing conscious beings and dog owners do not think of them as toys. They want them to have happy fulfilled lives as do they want their children to. Hence walking them in nice places for their enjoyment to meet other dogs and socialise

Children don’t pay fucking council tax either!

So if I pay council tax surely this covers my children AND pets to use a public space? Huh?
