AIBU to think dogs should be banned from parks?

They're everywhere, crapping, barking, smelling one another's arses and fighting. Then there are those jumpy ones trying to get a lick of a child's face before bounding off to piss up the nearest tree. Not everyone likes dogs and they spoil the park for kids. I'd love to see them allocated their own area away from the rest of the park where like minded dog owners can all hangout together picking up their pet's turds and convincing each other that "he's usually so gentle". AIBU??

@Teaandcrisps

Can i ask why you dislike dogs? Please be aware MOST people dont allow their dog to toilet anywhere. It same as any antisocial behaviour. Theres always going to be an arsehole.
Dog tax is a fucking ridiculous idea. Great punish the poor. Deprive poor families of the utter unconditional love a dog can bring.
I dont really trust people who dont like ANY dogs. Theyre often quite nasty soulless joyless people.

Fuma · 26/08/2019 23:58

Agree with you @wearywithteens. It's annoying. And for all that the dog botherers protest about their love for animals, pet ownership is an intrinsically environmentally unfriendly and human unfriendly activity. It impacts on wildlife (through hunting behaviour, habitat destruction, environmental effects of large scale meat production and water table pollution) and on humans around the pet (through noise, waste, hunting and other aggressive behaviour). The sole benefit to set against this impact is that the pet owner has a pet. Whoop.

@Fuma

Do you eat meat?

Fuma · 27/08/2019 00:01

Yes. Dogs, mainly.

notangelinajolie · 27/08/2019 00:02

YANBU
At the park near me there is a small fenced in area for children to play - swings, slide etc and dogs have free run of the rest. Surely it should be the other way round?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 27/08/2019 00:05

@Fuma

Well you clearly contribute more to pollution then dont you. Your post was absolute utter drivel. Wasnt going to say it at first but then you were a cunt Smile.
The comment about dogs hunting is just utter bananas. Neither of my dogs has ever hurt a human or other animal.

GCAcademic · 27/08/2019 00:08

Yes a lovely fenced off part for dogs where no-one can smash glass, throw litter, drop bits of food, kick balls, leave needles, or anything else that is a risk to the dogs would be great.

Absolutely. I would never take my dog to a public park because of the dangers posed by filthy humans and their foul detritus.

HelloMrDinosaur · 27/08/2019 00:08

I don’t really care. I just wish they’d stop shitting all over the pavements.

You’d think it wouldn’t be too much to ask that the pavements aren’t covered in shit, wouldn’t you? But we are where we are.

oknowimscared · 27/08/2019 00:08

Where I am, the playground areas are dog-free zones (fair enough). But if “dog parks” come in, then that’s a lot of dogs that can no longer enjoy the park (the park that is paid for by their owners, given dog owners pay taxes, just the same as parents do). Because as soon as “dog parks” arrive, the next thing that happens is dogs are only allowed in the dog park bit. And if you’ve got a nervous dog - that does not work. If you’re trying to take your young child to the park with DDog, this cannot work.
Share the space, people. It’s. It’s not difficult.

HaileySherman · 27/08/2019 00:12

Yabu and not everyone likes kids. A lot of people find kids to be a little gross.

LlcwlJ · 27/08/2019 00:14

I couldn’t agree more. Not unreasonable at all. Fed up of the singleminded doggy community unable to cope with any sort of discussion on this topic. Also tired of lack of enforcement on supposedly dog-free public spaces such as beaches, and on those awful owners who neglect to collect their beloved’s turds. Shame on them!

Surely it depends on who is using the park more. Dog walkers are there every day, rain or shine, from dawn till dusk. Children turn up during summer for an hour or so and school holidays.

GibbonLover · 27/08/2019 00:51

AIBU to think children should be banned from parks? They're everywhere, crapping in their nappies, crying, screaming and fighting. Then there are those static ones blocking everyone else's path before bounding off to run straight into the nearest dog. Not everyone likes kids and they spoil the park for dogs. I'd love to see them allocated their own area away from the rest of the park where like minded child owners can all hangout together picking up their children's litter and convincing each other that "he's only little". AIBU??

Greeborising · 27/08/2019 00:55

Oh Allthebiscuits you sound such a fun person!
😁
While I totally agree that badly behaved dogs are a total pain in the arse
(As are badly behaved kids)
You really can’t ban them from parks!

MarshallMathers · 27/08/2019 01:00

There is a park near me that has a "dogs allowed, but only on-lead" rule. I don't disagree with this as long as there are child-free areas for dogs to be exercised outside too.

Greeborising · 27/08/2019 01:00

Surely the point is take responsibility for your responsibilities.
If you are in charge of children or animals you absolutely must ensure that they know how to behave appropriately
Pick up your dog shit
Make sure your dog is trained so that it doesn’t steal picnic food
Scare toddlers
Bark incessantly
Make sure your child doesn’t scream in a restaurant
Or round a pool etc

MarshallMathers · 27/08/2019 01:03

A lot of people find kids to be a little gross.

Yeah, I'd rather have a random dog lick my face than be around some of the sticky snotty kids around.

Purpleartichoke · 27/08/2019 01:04

Dogs should be on leads unless in a fully enclosed and labeled dog area. There should never be a chance of someone’s dog jumping up on a child or chasing a runner because the owner should have the dog on a lead, behind a fence, or indoors.

CherryBathBomb · 27/08/2019 01:07

Not everyone likes kids! Not everyone likes dogs, but hey ho! It works both ways.

LiveInAHidingPlace · 27/08/2019 01:54

"Dogs should be on leads unless in a fully enclosed and labeled dog area."

Why? My dog hates those kinds of places. They're always too small and no space to run around. If we try to play with his ball, other dogs will inevitably run up and grab it. In that kind of situation, he gets stressed and growly.

If he has plenty of space to run, he doesn't get bothered by other dogs at all. He has zero interest in children or people or small animals or other dogs. He has great recall and never goes more than a couple of feet away from us.

So why should he suffer?

Dogs should be on a lead OR they should be trained appropriately. The issue is not off-lead dogs, but badly trained dogs. For this reason, I think there should be compulsory dog training classes and you should need a license to own one. I'm sick of being told my dog should be on a lead when he is minding his own business, nowhere near other people, has no interest in jumping on your child and will never run off.

A well-trained dog is safer off lead than a badly trained one is on the lead. If a dog can't easily escape a situation (poking child, attacking dog, idiots on bikes and scooters etc) by running, it's MORE likely to attack.

For that matter, I'm really tired of people in my estate complaining about dog noise (not from my dog) while their kids run and scream indoors and play outside until 10 or 11 and leave their rubbish everywhere, but a dog barks for one minute and it's somehow more annoying.

If you hate dogs, whatever. Many people hate kids, but I never see calls to ban them or gag them or keep them inside.

LiveInAHidingPlace · 27/08/2019 01:55

Fucking exactly.

hmga90 · 27/08/2019 02:14

I have a Rottweiler that I took to the park today.

One child came bounding up to her sticking his face in hers screaming down her ear. Fortunately, she is a very patient dog so nothing happened. His mother seemed quite unhappy when I told her she needed to teach her child how to behave around dogs properly.

The mailman came this morning while we were in the dog and she barked hello and I had to insist she was perfectly safe and was just being friendly.

It isn’t the dogs. It’s ignornat owners- just like you get ignorant humans. Just like you OP.

Maybe we should find a place to put you on this earth to be ignorant and judgemental along with the other twats who are.

I’m sure you would love that, wouldn’t you? Smile

LiveInAHidingPlace · 27/08/2019 02:19

"One child came bounding up to her sticking his face in hers screaming down her ear."

See this is what I hate. I live in a country where dog ownership is relatively new.

You can see a pattern in kids' behaviour towards dogs. At three or four, they will happily run up to dogs, scream at them, poke them, pull their tail etc. Their parents will go "ah so cute, ah so sweet, ah he loves the doggy!!!"

At six or seven, you can see the kids are suddenly terrified of dogs. Why? Because I'm assuming that they got barked/growled at or attacked. Because their parents don't think they need to be taught to respect dogs.

A few months ago some little brat was throwing sticks at my dog while the grandma laughed at him. I yelled at her and suddenly I'm the asshole because heaven forbid you don't allow a child to do whatever the fuck they like.

Lucafritz · 27/08/2019 02:23

YANBU we need more dog parks more dog wardens and more fines for dog owners who think its ok to let them run riot off lead and not pick up the mess they leave behind
