Is it rude for my partner to get up and add leftovers to the meal I just made him or am I just hormonal ??

Hello there- I’m wondering if you could clear up a question around table manners please?
For a family evening dinner a member of the family cooks a homemade pie and a vegetable salad. It takes quite a while and care is taken to present the meal.
The person it is served to picks at the parts of the salad they like and then goes to the kitchen and brings back some leftover cold veg from the fridge and adds it to the meal. Is this bad table manners?

Men honestly don’t care about things like little pastry letters spelling out their names on the top of a pie

I would have done this for my PFB Blush. I was hormonal then. I think it's fair to say he wouldn't have cared.

bumblingbovine49 · 13/08/2019 21:24

Good grief. Do people really mind about stuff like this?

I regularly tell DH I don't want parts of what he has cooked and get myself something else for the cupboard or fridge. The weird thing is I have usually done the food plan and shopping as well but I just don't fancy it despite me planning it and buying the ingredients and DH cooking it.

Sometimes I even cook it myself for DH and DS and then add some leftovers for me as I fancy them( I also offer them around but usually it is refused)

I cannot imagine being annoyed by this at all, maybe if they refused to eat any of the food made but not just adding to or replacing part of the meal with some leftovers.

bumblingbovine49 · 13/08/2019 21:27

Did Dp heat the leftover veg before adding them to his plate? Surely nobody could eat fridge-cold veg alongside a hot pie?

Yes they can we often do (Well I do anyway).

sonjadog · 13/08/2019 21:30

Depends what the extra veg were. If it was lettuce, heating it would not have been a good idea.

@Hidingfrommyfamily

Are you going to at least answer some of the questions here?

Butchyrestingface · 14/08/2019 18:29

Well that's a massive drip feed.

At no point did you mention you don't live together

Heh, heh. Nice one.

I suspect this thread is wending its way up a queue... 💔

Ffs am off to search the freezer for some aunt Bessies as I need to experience Yorkshires and nutella but really cba to make any.

KatherineJaneway · 14/08/2019 18:53

@Butchyrestingface I'm just desperate to understand what OP meant by a 'vegetable salad' Grin

RavenLG · 14/08/2019 19:00

This is a really weird thread.
Vegetable Salad...
People not knowing what cheese pie is...
Someone asking if cheese pie is quiche..
What’s happened to you all!!

Spingtrolls · 14/08/2019 19:03

Is there a meat salad?

Yorkies and Nutella is amazing.
Also tasty if you chuck on some bananas and nuts. Optional ice cream.

EEmother · 14/08/2019 20:13

Leftover veg as an extra side, borderline acceptable.
Last year my dad went to the kitchen, got a bottle of ketchup and poured it on top of a honey glazed pink duck breast. I STILL can't let it go.

LolaSmiles · 14/08/2019 20:17

What an odd thread.

I'm another one who is waiting for the deletion message, whilst wondering who would have salad with a pie Confused

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 14/08/2019 20:33

@ispepsiokay that reminded me of when we were small having them with jam

KatherineJaneway · 14/08/2019 20:39

Me too. Who has a hot pie with a cold salad?

sonjadog · 14/08/2019 20:49

It was me who thought a cheese pie was a quiche... I'm sorry...

I also have a confession to make. I sometimes eat pie with salad. A hot pie and a cold salad. I like it.

Butchyrestingface · 14/08/2019 20:58

It’s definitely a thing. I googled.

Looks like an ordinary plate of veg to me, but what do I know? 🤷‍♀️

I once monogrammed a pie for FIL birthday Blush

It was a steak and mushroom one and I served it with roast potatoes and broccoli should anyone be concerned re filling or what it was accompanied by Smile

It's not the most amazing looking pie I'll admit so please don't ridicule me but I've added the photo for confirmation it happened!

He did pretend to be pleased at least Grin

I have RTFT, as it would be a crime not to.

Impatientwino, it looks as if your mongrammed pie is smiling at everyone. I love it.
