Atlas is one of my all time favorite names for a boy but alas dh said not a chance.
There was a little Pheonix born the day before my dd in the hospital. Also dh went to school with a child called Echo.

UnicornBrexit · 08/06/2019 16:56

I had an uncle Basil.
I know a Saffron

Sorry but IMHO the rest are names I'd give a dog.

Tistheseason17 · 08/06/2019 16:56

They are unusual but they are not offensive/stupid IMHO.
Pick what you like and make sure they can't be taken the "p" out of.

plunkplunkfizz · 08/06/2019 16:57

Are there for a pet or a baby?

Illberidingshotgun · 08/06/2019 16:57

I heard of a little girl recently called Lilac, and thought it was lovely.

IncognitaIgnorama · 08/06/2019 16:57

They're quite "American", all of them. (That's an observation, not a criticism Grin)

sincethereis · 08/06/2019 16:58

Unusable imo:

-Buzz : seriously?!?
-Echo
-Lava

  • Eartha
  • Story

The rest I suppose on the right kid, fine

LemonyLion · 08/06/2019 16:59

Only Basil and Saffron are useable I'd say, although I do know a Lilac so that's obviously becoming more popular!

codenameduchess · 08/06/2019 17:00

Bear is getting a bit over used imo, of the other boys names the only one that doesn't strike me as try hard is atlas.

Saffron is the name of a companion (escort) in firefly- and not the good one- a connection you might want to be aware of. Misty like the witch in AHS is nice though!

curiositycreature · 08/06/2019 17:00

I’d have put Hendrix as a boys name?

I’m sure Tom from McFly and his wife have a Buzz, seems to suit them!

Inglenooks · 08/06/2019 17:00

Also know a Lilac, about 7 years old. It's grown on me.

GreenTulips · 08/06/2019 17:01

Lennon and Phoenix are boys names round here

curiositycreature · 08/06/2019 17:01

The only two on that list I really don’t like are Pluto and Lava. For the right couple, I don’t think I’d bat an eyelid at the rest.

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 08/06/2019 17:02

I know of an Aries. It confuses me as he’s not an Aries. I think he was born in November.

It doesn’t suit him. Especially as his sibling has a very sensible name.

userabcname · 08/06/2019 17:03

I love the name Atlas! Sage doesn't strike me as that odd either. I quite like unusual names so I don't actively dislike any of them except maybe for Echo which isn't great.

TheTitOfTheIceberg · 08/06/2019 17:04

One of the top ballerinas in the world at the moment is called Misty, so that's not a name to hold back a little girl.

There are a couple on both lists I'd never use, but quite a few of the girls' names are lovely IMO.

Footle · 08/06/2019 17:06

Loki is a wicked and mischievous spirit. Not in a good way.

FastnetLundyRockall · 08/06/2019 17:07

One of them is my name! Re the others, I knew a Saffron at school. I wouldn't use any of the boy names ( Basil makes me think of Fawlty) and isn't Lennon a boy's name? I like Saga because of Saga Noren

AshQ · 08/06/2019 17:07

I would use Saffron. I’ve met girls named Eartha and Phoenix but I probably wouldn’t use them myself.

toomuchfaster · 08/06/2019 17:08

DD would have been Loki but it wasn't to be. She has a 3rd cousin Sage, it was odd when discussed in pregnancy but normal now.

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 08/06/2019 17:08

Please give your child a serious name. It's not a toy.

bridgetreilly · 08/06/2019 17:09

Saffron and Sage, yes. Indigo and Phoenix maybe, though I wouldn't personally.

Basil, but it's still likely to make people think of Basil Fawlty, so it's not great.

The others, no.

Alloftheboys · 08/06/2019 17:11

Excellent names for cats dogs and gerbils 😃

user01763 · 08/06/2019 17:12

Thanks everyone! Only just realised this is in AIBU, was supposed to put it in baby names but I'm used to posting in this topic! Sorry!

I think all are usable if you don’t mind what other people think. They are unusual names so you are bound to meet some people who don’t ‘get’ the names but you will never find a name that’s to everyone’s taste.

I know a teen called Loki and a little girl called Echo (brother Kuba). I also know a man called Indigo. I would say all are from quite alternative ‘hippy’ families and nobody bats an eyelid at the names.
