Basil Indigo and Fawn are nice!

Grinchly · 08/06/2019 20:41

No.

Damntheman · 08/06/2019 20:50

Saga has been one of the most popular names in Sweden forever :D

MillicentMartha · 08/06/2019 20:55

I’m a rather fat feathery owl called Sage!

I am Sir Basil, King of the Herbs, I like huntin’, shootin’ and fishin’.

No 😅

All trying a bit too hard to be cool or different.

RedSuitcase has got it, all could be fodder for bullying.

mrsglowglow · 08/06/2019 21:05

I knew a little boy called Buzz about 20 years ago. I thought he was named after Buzz lightyear as Toy story was v popular but his mum said it was a family name. it suited him as well.

SachaStark · 08/06/2019 21:07

I’m from Cornwall, where Saffron is an extremely normal name, so that one is very usable to me.

Since I read Jeffrey Eugenides, I’ve always liked Lux as well!

I can’t see any of the boys’ names being used on an adult male though (which is what your baby will grow up to be!). Except Basil, which just makes me think of Fawlty Towers...

DelusionalDog · 08/06/2019 21:13

i love Bear and Lux. But I would never be brave enough to use them

WelcomeToGreenvale · 08/06/2019 21:17

If you like Story what about Fable? I secretly sort of love it

Proseccoinamug · 08/06/2019 21:17

I know a Lux and a Bear. Both boys.

WednesdaySpinner · 08/06/2019 21:23

I know a girl Lennon but her parents are American, it is usually a boys name in the UK. Saffron is a very normal name round here too.

sonjadog · 08/06/2019 21:27

Saga is a very common Scandinavian girl's name. If you like that style of name, you might also want to consider Edda and Hedda? Again, both common in Scandinavia.

NCforthis2019 · 08/06/2019 21:28

Only Loki (if i was scandi) is appealing to me - the rest i would maybe name a pet.

I love unusual/hippy/celestial/earthy names! My sons name is Atlas so obviously I think it's fab! The other boys names I feel are dog names.
Girls names I like Echo, Saffron and Fawn. Fawn was on my girls list but husband vetoed that so it's relegated to the middle names list. Hendrix, Indigo and Lennon are more boy names for me. Misty and Luxe are cats names to me.

FionasWineShow · 08/06/2019 21:35

DC were at kindy with an Eartha, and Eartha Kitt aside, it's a desperate name.

They're at school with an Indigo.

I also know of a Hendrix, but he's a boy.

Let's just say that none of those names are to my taste, I'd probably internally raise an eyebrow on hearing them, but after that not think anything of it.

BenWillbondsPants · 08/06/2019 21:37

I don't like any of them, too try hard IMO.

donotcovertheradiator · 08/06/2019 22:36

Clitoris and Chlamydia are lovely names for a girl-they sound so lyrical- and Gonorrhoea and Pubic are great for boys-strong but with a hint of sensitivity.
And all just sooooooo unusual!

Ohyesiam · 08/06/2019 22:37

Are there for a pet or a baby?
Ooh! Very witty. Hmm

donotcovertheradiator · 08/06/2019 22:38

I called my child Luna but it was unfortunate when I married Mr Tick and she took his surname. We all howled with laughter, especially when the full moon was high in the sky.

It made her feel so bo-ho and special!

pokepoke · 08/06/2019 22:50

Boys:
Buzz - leave this for a toy
Atlas - usable but prepare for loads of jokes about maps and holding things up
Aries - starsigns or God of war (even if the spelling differs)
Bear - more of a nickname
Pluto - demoted planet
Loki - evil god
Basil - usable but reminds me of the dog or fawlty towers

Girls:
Echo - foxtrot
Lava - wtf
Saga - wtaf
Phoenix - bit like naming your child dragon or unicorn
Eartha - like Jupitaaaa
Indigo - usable but I'd be wary of names after colours, places ('London'), fruits, herbs etc
Lyric - ... middle name if you have to use this but no
Sage - usable but hope the kid will be wise with that name!! Also dislike herb names
Lux - sounds tacky as it reminds me of 'luxe'
Saffron - bit out there even for a herby name
Lennon - usable but more of a boy's name
Lilac - same category as 'blue', 'red'
Hendrix - usable but probably better as a middle name
Fawn - dislike this due to the verb. Also would you name your child 'calf' or 'puppy'?
Misty - usable but reminds me of the annoying Pokemon trainer
Story - no

Dieu · 09/06/2019 15:25

Imagine calling for 'Echo' or 'Basil' across the park. Bloody ridiculous.

BertrandRussell · 09/06/2019 15:29

Just remember when you think “I wouldn’t be brave enough to use [a name]” that it’s not you who has to be brave.........

BritWifeinUSA · 09/06/2019 16:11

Wasn’t Lux a laundry soap? I work with an Echo - she’s in her 40s and her parents are hippies. All of their children have similar names.

Loki - no way! Not good to have someone after a malicious god. I really don’t like flower names such as Poppy, Rose, Lily. They just sound delicate and weak. I like good strong names.
